Chapter 4

*LOUIS'S POV*

The sunlight streaming in through the small window practically forced me to open my eyes. It wasn't that late, but it was late enough that I knew all the guys had left for daily activites. I felt somebody moving around beneath my arm and looked down, only to find Chloe curled up in a tiny ball at my side. My arm was draped across her shoulders and she was clinging to my body, with her arms wrapped tightly around me. I guess we had fallen asleep on the couch talking about what happened and watching movies.

I can only imagine what she went through yesterday; I mean, she was almost raped by her boyfriend, which is horrible. Seeing her in this state, and watching others make mistakes makes me realize what a better boyfriend I would be to her.

You already screwed that up for yourself by cheating on her.

I hate what I did to her. I took a perfect relationship and just kept testing the limits until I finally fell head first. I deserved every bit of what she threw my way, from the ugly stares to the subtle tweets involving me in some way or another.

Chloe stirred under my arm and drowsily opened her eyes. The sun made her blue eyes look almost clear as she looked at me.

"Good morning." She whispered, her eyes fluttering back and forth, trying to decide between sleeping and staying awake.

"How did you sleep?" I replied, stretching my arms above my head.

"Pretty good. I guess those pills were pretty strong." She said, a smile on her lips.

I gently moved her aside and hopped up to make us something to eat. There wasn't much in the cabinets, only some old Cheerios and a box of stale Cheez-its. I sighed and pushed back my unwashed hair, only tangling it more.

"What is it?" Chloe asked, peering over my shoulder into the empty, disappointing cabinet.

"I have to go grocery shopping." I answered, walking into the other room and looking for something clean.

Since I brought Chloe back to our bus last night, I threw a few things under the bed to make it look more...presentable.

It really just caused more trouble for me.

"Here." She smiled, tossing me a pair of dark jeans and a black t-shirt.

"Thank you." I said, sniffing them to make sure they were clean.

I pulled my shirt over my head and walked into the bathroom to get a much needed shower.

 *CHLOE'S POV*

"This is a heartache on the big screen." I hummed, tossing Louis's dirty clothes into the washing machine.

It was unacceptable for them to be living this way: clothes strewn across the floor, absolutely no food, dusty counter tops and dressers.

 It was disgusting.

I was already dressed in some jeans and a bright blue t-shirt, my hair pulled up into a messy ponytail.  I knew I had left some clothes on the bus when I left but I never expected them to still be here.

While Louis was taking forever in the shower, I made the decision to go with him to the store. It would be good to hang out, just us, again. Even if it was just the store.

"I'm done!" Louis called, still towel drying his brown hair as he stepped out in his clothes.

"Me too." I replied, grabbing my phone off the nightstand and slipping it into my back pocket.

"You're coming?" He asked, a smile spreading on his face.

"Of course." I giggled, throwing a dirty sock in his direction.

"Oh my God, who's is that?" He scoffed, catching the sock in his hand and extending it as far away from him as possible.

"I'm not sure." I laughed, watching as Louis visibly gagged at the smell. "Probably Niall's."

"If it is, then we have some serious discussing to do." Louis told me, walking over and putting the sock in the washing machine. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go wash my hand."

"What about these?" I asked, pointing to a box of Special K cereal.

"Absolutely not. What about these?" He replied, grabbing a box of Lucky Charms and tossing it in the basket.

"If you guys keep eating like this, you'll all be forty pounds overweight by the time you're thirty." I scolded, taking the box out and replacing it with the Special K.

"Come on, Chloe. We don't eat this crap cereal like those old, fat ladies on the commercials." He whined.

"No." I answered, pulling him away from the sugary foods.

"Can we at least get ice cream?" He asked, following behind me.

 "Fine." I agreed.

"Race you?" He replied, a smirk playing on the corners of his lips.

"You're on!" I shouted, lifting my left foot onto the buggy and pushing off with the right.

Louis cursed and started running to catch up. I whizzed by angry looking customers and employees, straight to the ice cream isle. Louis ran breathlessly behind me, not anywhere close. When he finally made it, I had already collided with the small stand of sunscreen set up near the end of the isle.

"Way to go, Chloe." He teased, still out of breath.

"Oh shut up! At least I won." I bragged, sticking my tongue out in response.

"Yeah, by cheating!" He exclaimed, spraying some of the damaged sunscreen on me.

"Don't you start." I warned, picking up my own can of sun protection.

"Just for shits and giggles?" He asked.

Before I could stop him, my leg was covered in a light, white mist. I sprayed it on his arm and ran to a freezer door, pulling it open to use as a shield.

 "Excuse me!"

Louis and I both froze, and turned around giggling. The store manager stood there, her hands on her hips, and an angry scowl covering her face.

"I want you two to pay for what you have in that buggy right now, and leave." She demanded, snatching the sunscreen from Louis's hand as he sprayed it at the floor.

When she turned, I grabbed a carton of ice cream and sheepishly followed Louis to the register. Once we had paid, we walked out, laughing so hard we were crying.

"Did you...see...her face?" Louis asked in between laughs.

"Yes! Did you see...her...hair? It was God aw-awful." I giggled, tears running down my face.

We got in the car and both caught our breath, looking at each and surely replaying the past couple of days we had together.

"Chloe, I don't love Morgann. I love you." He said, reaching out to tuck a loose strand of ponytail behind me ear.

"Then why would you date her?" I replied, my tone hushed as if somebody was watching.

"Because it was my only chance to get close to you." He admitted.

"Just get close to me now." I whispered, leaning in and pressing a kiss against his lips.

It was something I needed right now, to escape from everything. I didn't even care about the consequences and I know that's stupid, but he's the only thing that can distract me. I don't even know how I feel about him right now, and whether I love him or not, but even though it's selfish, I continued to kiss him anyway.
