Chapter 14

*CHLOE'S POV*

 I walked downstairs, trying to remember if I invited anyone over for tonight. I landed with a light thud on the hard wood floor and trudged over to the door, my bunny slippers dragging the ground. I grasped the door knob, twisting it and pulling it open.

 "Hello Chloe!"

 I felt my eyebrows furrow in confusion and I looked around outside, trying to see if this was another prank. I almost closed the door, truly at loss for the reason Calum Hood was standing in my doorway.

 "Hello Calum." I replied, keeping a tight grip on the door.

 He smiled at me, rocking back and forth on his heels. I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath.

 "Is there something you need?" I asked, opening my eyes again.

 "Nope." He answered, popping the "p".

 I rolled my eyes and opened the door a little wider. It was clear he wasn't going to leave until he got what he came here for, which was still a mystery to me, and I really didn't want a member of  Seconds of Summer to be mobbed by all of the teenage girls living in my complex at 11:00 at night.

 "Would you like to come in?" I asked, sighing again.

 His eyes brightened and he smiled again. "I would actually. Thank you very much, Chloe."

 "Yeah don't mention it." I mumbled, closing the door behind the boy who had just basically skipped into my apartment.

 I followed Calum into my kitchen, keeping my arms crossed. He seemed to know his wy around my apartment very well...almost too well. He got down a glass from the cabinet, then opened the fridge, pouring himself some orange juice. Calum took a large drink of the juice then set the glass down, staring at me.

 "What?" He asked, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.

 "You just walked in and drank my orange juice." I scoffed, taking his glass from the countertop and placing it by the sink.

 He glared at me, his eyes narrowing into tiny slits. He huffed, crossing his arms and walking into my living room. He sat down on the couch, propping his feet up on the coffee table.

 "Really?" I asked, throwing my hands up in the air.

 "Oh my gosh, what now?" He groaned, flipping through the channels on the TV.

 "You're taking the term 'make yourself at home' to an entirely other level." I told him, walking over and pushing his feet off the table. "Feet off."

 Calum rolled his eyes and left the TV on some alien movie. I sat down on a love seat across the room, bringing my knees to my side.

 "Okay. Why are you really here?" I asked him, watching as he lowered the volume on the movie.

 He cleared his throat, then pushed his hair away from his eyes. "I'm here to address this so-called 'love triangle' between you, me and Louis."

 "I suppose that's a decent enough reason to be here...but not at 11 o'clock." I answered, pulling my hair into a messy bun on top of my head and yawning.

 Calum twisted his lips to the side, probably thinking. He looked back up and nodded. "Fair point. So, why don't you go to lunch with me tomorrow and we can discuss it."

 I felt my eyebrows shoot up in surprise. If he really thought he was going to get some kind of date out of this he thought wrong.

 "Wouldn't us going out together just prove the love triangle?" I asked him.

 "Nah." He said, smiling.

 I heard myself snort at his response. I stood up, leading him to the door. "Have a nice night."

 "So that's a yes then?" Calum asked, standing in the doorway.

 "Don't push it." I told him, rolling my eyes and closing the door.

 I would never admit it, but as I closed the door, I knew that Calum Hood would be someone new and healthy for me. Someone I could easily see myself laughing with and calling my good friend. Maybe I would take him up on that lunch date.

 Just maybe.

 "So." Morgann said, sipping her coffee.

 I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and looked at her.

 "So." I replied.

 She placed the mug on the counter and leaned back, placing both of her hands on the island.

 "Would you care to explain why Calum Hood was at our apartment last night, asking for you specifically?" She asked me.

 I shrugged, walking over to the fridge and pulling out an apple. I shuffled over to the coffee maker and grabbed a mug from the cabinet, pouring myself some coffee.

 "Chloe."

 I rolled my eyes and turned around. "It's not what you think it is, Morgann."

 "Really, because all I know is that you two are involved in some kind of 'love triangle' with Louis, and that it would be quite awful if it turned out to be true."

 "And why would that be so horrible?" I asked, raising my eyebrows.

 "So it's true then?" She demanded.

 "No, it's not true, but would it really be so bad if it was? Louis has made countless 'mistakes' in our friendship and while we were dating. If I happened to like hanging out with one of his friends I think he could find a way to get over it." I told her, walking over to  bar stool and sitting down.

 Morgann sighed, sitting down next to me. She placed her mug down, tracing circles on the marble counter top.

 "It's not about getting even, Chlo. Take it from me." She mumbled.

 I remembered all of the situations she had been involved in in the past few months and snorted.

 "I'm not getting even, and I don't make stupid mistakes." I said, standing up and walking upstairs.

~~~
 "Where are you going?"
 I thundered down the stairs, pulling my brown leather jacket over my shoulders and grabbing my keys from the table.
 "Out." I replied, pulling my hair from under my jacket.
 Morgann took my arm in her hand. "Please tell me you're going to meet Hunter."
 I shook my head. "Sorry. I'm not."
 She released my arm, her jaw clenched.
 "Have a nice day in front of the TV." I told her, smirking.
 "What is your problem today?" She asked me, anger in her eyes. "I ask you a few questions about why Calum stopped by last night and you turn into this raging bitch. Did he say something? Did say something? If I did please let me know, because I'm very lost here. One minute you're my best friend from high school and the next you're a completely different person."
 I paused at the door, my hand on the knob. I ducked my head down, thinking of a response. She was right. I was changing, but in my opinion it was for the better. I've been hurt too many times before and if it takes a new friend to realize that I need something to protect myself, then bring it on.
 I was ready.
