CHAPTER 8

Being four in the back seat isn't really comfortable. And it doesn't help that Victoria moves all the time, either to look at me or at Adam. Georgia tries to put her seatbelt, but she renounces rapidly.

More than once, I cross Adam's playful blue eyes in the rear-view mirror while she talks, which made me discreetly smile. I like his playful side. Victoria entertains us in the car with endless chats about the university, the dormitory, parties, and other gossips. She makes me burst into laughter more than once. And even if some of them are a bit inappropriate, that doesn't stop her.

It is not hard to figure out Victoria is someone who needs constant attention. More I spend time with her, the more I find ourselves common points. They are both the type of person I was looking for. And I want to assume their friends are alike.

During the ride, I give a look at the two other passengers. Victoria's roommate, Chloe is a tomboy and the constant scowl on her face prevent me to talk to her. On the other hand, her friend Noah looks like a sweet boy. They barely talk during the journey, neither does Georgia.

Adam parks on the parking lot of two-story house. I am glad when I get to be out of the car.

Three huge Greek letters ΦΚΤ read as Phi Kappa Tau according to Adam, are painted on the big triangle on the top of the columns above the main door.

Georgia walks near me. I feel her anxiety through her body language. I give her a flash, but a genuine smile that she returns me. I feel selfish to made her come, but I hold to the idea she will have fun too. Maybe she will become friends with Chloe and Noah who look more like her.

Adam is a few steps ahead of us, greeting which seems to be all the students present. I walk between Georgia and Victoria who stays close to me. She introduces me to students she knows and gives me embarrassing details about a lot of them, which makes me laugh. I feel like I have been here all of my life and all of her gossips give me the impression to be back with my friends. I'm impressed by the number of information she has on everyone.

We walk toward a bunch of people sat on the floor. They are gathered around different kind of alcohols, juices, and cups that are spread around.

"Hello," sings Victoria. I can feel their eyes on us when she interrupts them.

"Let me present you to my new friends," she joyfully speaks. As she introduces us, I peek around me. I know they are judging us, but I can't blame them when  I'm doing the same.

I don't really have the time to look at all of them that Victoria orders her friends to move to leave us a place in their circle. I sit next to her and I'm rapidly joined by Georgia. Adam already sat a bit further with some guys on my left.

Victoria gives us each a plastic cup, telling us to take whatever we want. I help myself with some Vodka and pineapple juice to mask the taste. I turn toward Georgia, showing her the bottle.

"Do you want?"

She slightly nods negatively with a little smile that I give her back. I'm not surprised by her answer.

Personally, I can't say no to it. I like the sensation it gives me. The impression of happiness. That absolutely nothing matters anymore. To forget everything around and be ready to do everything desired without boundaries. I give her the bottle of pineapple juice that I am holding, which makes her smile and I pass the Vodka to Chloe who generously pours the liquid in her cup.

The sobriety of Georgia doesn't leave my mind, bothering me more than I want to admit. I don't want to force her hand, even if I know I already did, but seeing her being this shy let me think she is never going to blend in. I am aware alcohol isn't a correct answer, but I know from experience it helps.

"Listen," I turn my upper body toward Georgia, automatically attracting her attention.

"I understand you don't want to drink. You probably heard stories ending badly because of persons who have drunk too much, but you have to know that doesn't happen all the time. It's only a question of knowing your limits. And what is better to know them than to test them? And, if it is a question of taste, you should at least try." I smile at her.

When the bottle of Vodka comes back from Noah, I keep it. I know this thing tastes like shit, but it is worth it. Her eyes are full of contradiction. It is like on side of her wants to try, but the other forbids her to do it.

"Drinking is going to make you have much more fun," I add regarding her expression.

Georgia looks at the bottle. Curiosity is readable in her glance.

"You dad will never know," I add with a gentle smile.

"Okay," she finally says, raising a decided gaze on me. I would love to know what is happening in her head.

I gently take her cups from her hand. I pour only a small quantity of alcohol inside that I fill with the pineapple juice. I don't want to revolt her.

"Trust me on this," I add "the taste is disgusting but the result is awesome," I say as I hand her, her cup with a smile.

Slowly, she brings the cup to her lips. She stares at the liquid before she swallows a tiny sip. Her face twists into a grimace, which makes me smile.

"You'll see. You'll get used to it and you will even ask for more," I wink.

"To your new life here," speaks Victoria. I divert my attention from Georgia to Victoria, noticing her locked glance on me and her smile. She has the power to give me the impression I do matter for her, even though I know it sounds stupid, considering we just meet, yet, it is a lovely feeling.

"Makes it to be fun," I raise my cup as I smile with her.

"I am sure it will," she raises hers as she winks. And we drink to those words.

When I take this first sip of alcohol proclaiming the beginning of my life at the university, I feel good. It is all I ever asked for. Friends and fun time. I don't want to rush it and be deceived because of fake illusions, but it is really good to be here.

"I know you!"...
