CHAPTER 32

This is the last update I have before I stop writing this story :3

"It looks like both of our family have their flaws," I reply with a sarcastic smile.

"But yours beat mine," I add as I shove a new bit of pizza in my mouth. Nate chuckles a small 'yeah.'

I can't help growing more curious about him. He is different from all the people I ever met. I can't imagine if my brother was a trouble-marker. I don't know if I would be sick worried or ignore the fact I do have a brother... probably the second option.

I have somehow difficulties to picture him with a sister when I know how he treats women. I wouldn't be surprised if he were behaving correctly at home though, he proved me he could, in a way.

I ask him about his job. I love the way he talks about it. He spends his time complaining about the company, and his co-workers, but the glimpse of light in his eyes doesn't fool me. I wonder if my eyes shine the same way when I talk about my future. He is committed to what he is doing, and it makes me happy to see him happy. He works hard, and he deserves it.

Having a proper discussion with him is nice. We tease each other, a lot, but I like it. Every time I'm with him, I have the impression to discover a new facet of his personality.

We are both laughing when our phones buzz.

"Seems like there's an improvised party tonight at the house." He reads. I have the same message from Victoria. I suppose she sends it to both of us.

"Do you want to go?" He lifts his head from his screen.

"I'll pass. I drank enough yesterday. And I have class tomorrow." I can't believe I said that, but I have to stick to my promise. Plus, after yesterday, I don't really feel like drinking.

"Well, I don't have that chance to choose," he chuckles.

"You can come over. Georgia loves you, and we'll figure out to find you a spot where to crash in our tiny room." I propose. I don't know what pushed me to do that, maybe the fact I do have a good time in his company, and I don't want him to go now. I feel better since he his here. I don't have to pretend with him.

"Why not. Let me go grab some stuff in my room for tomorrow first."

I hope Georgia will not mind too much.

I pay the check after remembering him he paid for the coffees. He grumbles but let me do, I even glimpse a smile on the corner of his pink lips.

The frat house is more crowded than I thought it would be, but there are fewer people than I use to see here. We cross the hall while I look with amusement at the students. I wave to a few of them, but I don't see any of the friends I made in class.

"Here you are!" Someone scream behind us. We turn and see Victoria. She looks terrific in her tiny grey dress.

"And together." She teases as she approaches.

"We studied together," I explain with a smile, trying to rectify the situation.

"I see... Anyway, you're here now, so let's have fun." She almost spills out the content of her drinks when she enthusiastically grabs my arm. I laugh, but I don't forget why I came here.

"I'm not staying," I say. She turns her eyes back on me.

"I invited Nate to stay over. We don't want to party tonight, but I'm definitely up for something this weekend."

"So now you're speaking for you two!" She lets go my arm, folding hers again her chest.

"Wh...what?" I scoff.

"You come here like the place was yours, with him, to tell me you prefer to stay together when I'm the one who invited you. It thanks to me you know each other. All I'm asking is to spend a bit of time within your company as you seem to have forgotten me lately. I though befriend you was a good idea, after all, I heard from you, but so far, you've been nothing but a fucking -"

"I beg your pardon." I cut her off. "You knew me?!"

"Everyone did. Do you really think I would have come to you otherwise?" she sneers. I glare at her. I'm taken aback by her reaction, but even more by her words.

"It's enough." Nate snaps before I can respond.

"Come, we have to go." He grabs my wrist and pulls me away.

"So you defend her now?!" Victoria shouts.

"You're drunk Vic, you're not controling what you're saying. Go get some fresh air, and stop the shit you're doing." He pulls me away, leaving her alone. This girl is crazy.

I follow Nate to his room, doing my best to avoid crashing into someone. He doesn't drop my wrist until we get in his room and goes directly to his closet. The close door deadens the noise from the house, but not in my brain.

I sit on the edge of his bed while he packs. It's the first time I get inside his room. School books are sitting on a desk, few posters hang here and there, but the most impressive is the amount of fiction he has. I wonder if he read them all.

I still can feel the anger traveling in my system. What the hell is wrong with her? Was that jealousy? She should have thought about it before trapping me with him all the bloody time.

"Don't take it personally, she is drunk, when she is on that state, she is doing nothing but bullshit." I raise my head, and I watch him taking a black shirt from his dresser to put it in a bag.

"Well, if she said it, it was for something. Drunk or not."

"Everyone slips up when they are drunk, don't you agree?" He looks at me, and I look away.

He is right, we both know it, but still. I know she told the truth, and that hurts. I don't mind if she knew my name or not, but a part of me hoped she came to talk to me because she wanted to or I don't know for what other reasons, but not for the only sake of my dad's name. And the way she threw that to my face... Going to university makes me realize how naive I am. I should have been more careful, and her, she should have told me the truth from the beginning. I still want to think we are friends but her behavior tends to cool me down too frequently that I'm not sure I want to fight for it. She is my first friend here, and she is someone I feel close to, a part of me don't want to lose her. Or the friends I made through her...
