CHAPTER 3

I watch a girl, a man of a certain age, and Aby stepping in the room.

I haven't really taken the time to think about the roommate I would have, but like everybody I guess, I hope we'll get along.

I can only imagine how wonderful it would be if I was living with my best friends. I'm quite certain we would spend our time sharing our clothes, our thoughts, our problems, talking about everything until way too late at night while drinking a glass of wine. All the thing we are already doing, excepted this time, we would actually be living together. Without mentioning the parties we would throw.

I might no wantee to be with my friends, but I miss them. Especially in a moment like this when I'm thinking about all the things we would have done together. I can't say that taking this decision was an easy one, and I hope it will not turn out being a mistake.

In any case, if I don't befriend my roommate, I refuse to live with someone I'll not stand. I am aware I have to share this limited space for the year, so, if I can't have my privacy, the very least I want is to feel comfortable in it.

"Hi again you two," Aby exclaims with too much energy for me before continuing." This is Georgia. Georgia, meet Olivia. It's her first year with us too. I am sure you too are going to get along," she gesticulates.

I give a curious glance to the new girl. A shy smile is visible on her thin lips. Her long light-brown straight hair is falling on her shoulders, which partially covers the sides of her face. Her clothes look too big for her and do not show her at her advantages, they are not on the trend either for what that matter and she seems extremely shy.

"Okay. I let you settle now. If you need anything, I am downstairs. See you later." Aby speaks with so much rapidity that I come to wonder when she is breathing. She barely waits for us to reply that her hand is already holding the doorknob.

"I didn't know boys were allowed in  girl's rooms!"

The sharp voice of the man, who I assume is my roommate father, suddenly makes himself heard in a snap that surprise everyone. Aby almost jumped on it.

He doesn't try to be discreet when he scans us up and down.

I don't get where the problem is. Her daughter doesn't have males friends or a boyfriend? It's not like if Alex was half-naked or if we were in the middle of the night. And anyway, it is none of his business. This room is mine as well.

The girl looks ashamed like she wished to hide somewhere. Her cheeks have turned crimson and her eyes are lowered toward the floor, making her hair hiding, even more, her face. I feel pity for her, but the fact remains that she's not intervening.

Aby pulls herself together and displays a new smile. I notice she opened her mouth to talk, I can tell she wants to arrange the situation, but I want to be the one sorting this out.

"Olivia Valdez," I present myself. I hold out my hand to the man, beating Aby before she talks. He gives it a reluctant look before finally taking it.

His handshake is strong, but I am not impressed. I had to deal with businessmen and sneaky people all my life, it's not him who is going to scare me. I give him a firm handshake in return, my gaze locked in his eyes.

"Nice to meet you. This is my older brother, Alexander. I am sorry for the inconveniences, but you don't have to worry, he is not going to stay long. He is just here to help me, like you with Georgia." I politely say with a charming, yet confident tone accompanied by a smile that reflects my attitude, ignoring his. I know my brother is displaying the same face beside me.

I admit I am impressed by myself for remembering her name.

I have the impression I felt him relaxing when I present Alex as my brother and not as my boyfriend. I am curious to know what is in his mind to have such reactions.

As my dad always says, you never get a second chance to make the first impression.

I release his hand and add without letting him the time to reply "We are going out to eat, so you have the room all to yourself to settle. I already choose my side, I hope it's okay with you?" I turn my attention toward the girl who is shyly smiling, her cheeks still marked with a blush.

"Sure," she simply answers.

"Perfect!" I smile." So, I see you later."

I grab Alex's arm who is still holding the empty luggage. I nod them goodbye, still giving a charming smile even though my thoughts are quite the opposite.

From outside, we can hear Aby starting to talk again with her usual good mood and willingness to help.

"It was...interesting." Alex amusingly says when we are far enough from the room to not be heard.

"Tell me about it," I reply with a grimace.

Nice to meet you too, roommate.
