CHAPTER 25
I lean my back against the desk and rub my eyes with my fingers.
Victoria is still waiting for an answer, but can I confide myself to her? I know it isn't a big deal, but I don't need her to repeat this to everyone. I don't care much about what kind of rumors will spread after Alessia and her friends saw me and Nate together in my room, all I want is to be sure I can trust Victoria.
"Don't worry girl," she softly smiles "it's your story, but know I'm here if you need to share," she winks, which makes me softly chuckle.
"Just remember that I might talk a lot, but I know how to keep secrets." The sudden seriousness in her tone surprise me, and all I can do is nodding in response. I want to trust her, but I need more than a promise to be able to.
Before I can say anything, an unknown melody rings. Victoria mumbles something and pull off her phone from her bag and answers the call.
I watch her doing from the other side of the room. I think I'm going to talk to her, Victoria is strange, but she is an adorable person and I admit, I could need a feminine ear. She probably has information about Nate, considering they are friends, and maybe I could learn a few of them.
I stop thinking when I notice her good mood falling. Victoria doesn't speak, and I get worried as she grows paler. I move and come to sit next to her on the bed. Her eyes are lost, her fingers holding firmly the phone close to her ear as she nods time to time. The call doesn't last long. The only words she finally says are a muffled "thank you" before she hangs.
A silence float in the room. Victoria wipes the menacing tears from her eyes before she turns her body toward me with a broad, but fake smile. I admire her attempt to pull herself together.
"So, what were we talking about?" She says with too much energy to be natural, her voice giving her away.
I have never been good to comfort people, so I simply take her hand that I gently squeeze. I give her a smile and make her understand by those simple gesture that, if she needs me, I'm here.
She nods, and a genuine small smile comes to her lips.
We start to chat about everything and nothing and I talk about what happened with Nate. I explain her the parking fight and what happened at the store, to what she answers she understand better my reaction back then. I clarify we only fell asleep watching a movie in the room and quickly how we keep provoking each other, but for now, I prefer to keep to myself all my personal thoughts and feelings about this all situation.
I also explain how Rose burst in the room, which makes the both of us laugh. Victoria tells me she has a crush on him for a long time, but she still can't explain how Nate agreed to sleep with her and the only reason she can come with is he was probably too intoxicated to think and watch properly.
She explains how surprised she was when Adam told her we left together. She can't help to describe how this Rose was mad and asked everyone where Nate left. She confesses she is the one who finally gives away the number of my room, but it was to make her stop shouting at everyone. I can't blame here, and I actually would have loved to assist to the scene. On the other side, I think I made a new enemy at my expense.
We exchange about our life and I come to tell her that I never had a real boyfriend like in the movie with all the love and everything, but the last time I was with someone was last year, to what she tells me she isn't ready yet to have a new boyfriend and prefer to enjoy herself as much as she can while she is here. I love her spirit.
"So, with who are you enjoying your time?" I smirk at what she shrugs with a smile.
"Oh, come one, tell me," I gently push her with my shoulder.
"Is it.... Adam?" I take a guess, incapable to control my smile.
"What? Absolutely not. Trust me on that, we are friends, nothing more," she states.
I laugh.
"And you? You told me your story with Nate, but what's really going on? Do you think something is going to happen between you two?" she asks.
"I... actually don't know," I admit a little confused by my own answer. "We can't bear each other, we are always ending up fighting, but...I don't know, there is a tension between us, something I can't explain. I don't know if it is hate or..." I can't finish my sentence. I don't know how to.
While I am talking, I bring my legs to my chest, encircling them with my arms before I place my chin on my knees, looking at the wall. I can't look at her in the eyes while I'm saying this. The conversation is becoming too personal.
"He gives this feeling to a lot of women, but he doesn't usually chase after someone. I mean, he drove you twice, even if one was because of me, but still, he came in your room-"
"He was hiding," I remind her.
"That's just an excuse," she dismisses my words "what I want to say is, I never saw him acting like this with anyone."
I let out an 'mm-hmm'. I don't know what I should think about it. She is probably telling the truth, but until now, I don't think a lot of women told him no. I'm only a challenge, a game.
"All he wants he is playing." I sight.
"And it's not what you want too?" She raises an eyebrow.
"I guess..." All this conversation is messing up with my mind.
Georgia comes back when we are exchanging high school souvenirs. Discreet as always, I'll have to apologize to her for all the noise we make. I don't see the time flying and Victoria asks to stay over. She doesn't seem to want to be alone tonight. We fall asleep in a middle of a conversation.
I wake up with Victoria lightly snoring in my ear. The bed is really too small for two persons. I can feel all the muscles of my body, especially when I move as I try to not wake her. Georgia is awakened, but for once, she is on her laptop and not with a book. She gives me a smile that I return. I can't talk right now.
In the shower, I close my eye and think of nothing but how the water feels on my painful muscled. I'm glad to find Victoria awake when I get back. She stays until 3 pm after we finished to eat the food we brought up. She still hasn't said a word about the call.
"I can't believe we are starting class tomorrow," I say to Georgia as I stretch my muscles when Victoria is left.
"Me either," she admits.
"I don't even know where I'm supposed to go," I laugh.
I have been there for what, five days, and I still haven't taken the time to have a look at the buildings.
"I can show you if you want." I look up at Georgia who kindly smiles.
"Yesterday, after the library, I met Noah and Chloe and they show me around," she explains.
Noah, mmm, I think with a huge smile, but I keep it to myself.
"I'll be ready in 10mintes," I affirm with a broad smile.
Georgia knows pretty well the area. She explains me everything and shows me where my classes of tomorrow are. We spend a couple of hours, wandering before going to eat at a restaurant near the campus. I apologize for the intrusion of Nate yesterday, and Victoria's, but she keeps repeating she doesn't mind. This girl is the perfect roommate.
When we are back in our room, I imitate her by preparing my bag for tomorrow. At least, with the errand I made the other day, I have supplies to be ready for school. I wonder if I should thank Nate for this.
I settle my alarm at 6:30 am, my class doesn't start before 9, so it will leave me the time to properly wake up and be ready. When I go to bed, I can't help but be a little anxious for tomorrow.
