CHAPTER 12

I'm mortified by what I'm watching. I should be proud of her. After all, I wanted her to drink. But I was absolutely not imagining she would end up acting this way.

She is making a total fool of herself. Her lack of practice in dance is obvious, and this is what makes it amusing to watch.

And it is all my fault.

I feel bad. The culpability overwhelming me. The alcohol I swallowed does not help me to block my emotions, or to find the situation funny. Victoria, on the other side seems to assist at the event of the night. If it would have been anybody else, I would probably find it funny too. But it isn't anybody else...

"I should get her off here," I sigh.

"Let her." Victoria laughs. "Look, she is having fun and I bet it doesn't happen a lot." She points her cup toward Georgia before bringing it back to her lips to drink.

"What the fuck is happening?" A harsh voice suddenly hits my ears, diverting my attention from Georgia.

Without waiting for any answers, Chloe crosses the room to reach our friends. She grabs Noah and Georgia's wrists and drags them out the improvised dance floor under few giggles.

Noah and Georgia suprisingly follow her without resistance.

"This girl is definitely not funny," complains Victoria about her roommate. I don't say anything, internally, I am relieved.

"I'm going check on them." I stand up.

I can hear Victoria's footsteps behind me as I walk outside after she sighed loudly when she got up.

Georgia is sitting on the ground, her face buried in her hands, her knees against her chest.

Chloe is standing next to her and Noah, who looks sick as well. His face is pale and his eyes red. He looks lost. But Georgia is the one I'm worried about.

"Is she okay?" I ask Chloe as gently as I can.

"What do you think?" She snaps back. Her lips are forming a thin line as she sends me a death glare.

I take a deep breath to keep control, saving my comments for myself. I know I messed up.

I squat in front of Georgia, ignoring Chloe. I can feel my muscles suffering from the small effort. The alcohol puts my balance in jeopardizes even though the all thing quite sobered me up.

Gently, I remove her hand from her face. Tears are streaming down her cheeks, but no sounds come out of her mouth. My lower lip finds its way in between my teeth which chew it.

"Hey girl," I softly say.

"It's not me... I don't drink. I am not like this. I swear. I never do that sort of things. It's not me. I am a good girl. My dad is going to kill me..." Georgia sobs, shaking her head.

The unpleasant feeling grows in me.

"Don't worry Georgia. He is not going to find out. It is nothing, okay?! It's just a bad moment It happened to the best of us. You'lll feel better tomorrow." I promise her with a soft tone while I rub her knee.

"I am going to bring you back to the dorm," I tell her. She nods, wiping her cheeks with the palm of her hand. I give her a comforting smile before getting up on my feet.

"How is she?" Victoria asks when I'm approaching. I'm surprised she does.

"Just drunk. She needs to sleep. I'll bring her back to the door. Is there any kind of Uber or bus passing by?" I ask.

Victoria suddenly burst into a laugh. I frown at her reaction, not understanding it. Did I say something silly?

"What?" I ask harsher than attended. I bit my lip very hard to keep my irritation for me.

She really starts to get on my nerves. I am not in the mood to deal with that. After Alessia, Nate and now Georgia, I don't need her to add something else on my plate.

"You will have difficulty to find someone picking you up down here. They don't really like driving drunk students around. It's too risky...you know, vomit issue and everything," she explains with a shrug.

"The bus will not pass before a couple of hours, but I am sure you can stay here," she offers.

I rub my temples as I release a sigh. I close my eyes for an instant. I need to think. I can't walk Georgia to the dorm, she will never make it. I don't even know how far we are. And I don't know if staying here is a good idea. I don't know anyone here. Maybe Adam could help. I start to crave for my bed. I want to try the cab. His price will be mine.

All this situation is tiring me out. All I want is to feel my fresh sheets on my skin.

"I know some people who have a car," adds Victoria.

I stuck my lower lip between my teeth again, biting it hard. Can't she have said that earlier, instead of laughing?

"Who?" I snap. My patience is not of the party anymore.

"Wait here," she replies before disappears inside.

I get back to Georgia. I have no other choice than trusting Victoria.

I sit on the cold floor next to Georgia. I place my hand on her back and I gently rub it while she still silently sobs. Can this shitty day go any shittier?

Noah and Chloe are standing near us, leaning against the wall, silent too.

Victoria comes back after what has seemed to be forever, alone. It is easy to imagine it isn't simple to convince someone to leave the party to bring back a bunch of drunk people. Not mentioning finding someone who is not intoxicated.

"Okay, I asked Adam, but the boy was...unavailable," she starts to explain with a tiny smile. Her fingers are intertwined as she slightly swings on her feet.

"But I manage to convince someone else..." It is a good new, but she looks too uncomfortable to reasure me.

"It is Nate"

"You have to be kidding me," I blurt in between grit teeth. When on earth she  thought for the tiniest second ever that asking Nate would be a good idea?

I glance at Nate who gets out of the house, before turning my face back toward Victoria.

"He was the only one available and not throwing, or too occupied," she slightly shrugs to defend herself.

I suppose it is better than nothing. I should be less stubborn, it would have spared us some bad surprises.

Nate frowns when his eyes land on us.

"They are okay?" He asks, not hiding his annoyance.

"They will be. In a couple of hours," I reply.

"Okay. Let's go, I don't have all night. And don't puke on my seats."

Lucky me, I sigh while I get up, before helping Georgia to stand on her feet.
