CHAPTER 11
I turn my head to check on Georgia. Victoria's roommate isn't here anymore, but Noah and my roommate are engaged in what seems to be an interesting conversation. They are both speaking with their hands and laughing. I proudly, but discreetly smile. I quickly peek into her cup and notice it's reaching its end. That might be the trigger of her socialization.
When I think she was reluctant to come...
I don't disrupt them and turn my head. Victoria is engaged in an argument with few of her friends to choose what to do now so, I decide to go to see Adam, bringing my cup with me. I need to change my mind. Moreover, I would like to ask him a few questions.
"Hey, how are you?" He exclaims when I take place beside him. His friends look at me, but I don't feel any animosity in their eyes. It is nice to see genuine smiles.
"Not too bad," I smile."I hope I am not interrupting anything?" I bit my lip.
"You are not. We were just talking about football," he keeps smiling.
"You're playing?" I ask Adam and his friends, bringing my cup to my lips.
"Well, we touch the ball," chuckles Adam. "You should come, we have a game soon against another university. It will be followed by a party, no matter the result." I like how his eyes glow when he talks, full of kindness and energy, yet, a hint of mischief is visible in them. I really appreciate him.
"I will," I promise.
"By the way, it was awesome, the way you stood up earlier. Maybe quite suicidal though." A boy wearing a teddy of the color of the university says. I let out a laugh at his words.
"Thank you. I guess." I slightly frown with a smile.
They start talking about sports again. I never really been into it, yet I don't mind watching a game from time to time. I take advantage that everyone is busy chatting to question Adam.
"Can I ask you something?" I ask him, automatically grabbing his attention.
"Sure." A smile raises his lips.
"I'll probably sound stupid, but...why does she hate me?" I swiftly nod toward Alessia.
A cute chuckle escapes his lips as he glances at her.
"Let just say she doesn't really like changes. She probably sees you as a new potential enemy who has the desire to steal her kingdom." He says with irony, raising one of his brows as he speaks. I laugh.
"Don't worry too much, she isn't bad. She will smooth with time. Victoria has an instinct when it comes to friendship," he winks.
I'm happy to hear that and happy to know Victoria doesn't pick all the homeless sad students and bring them to her parties. Concerning Alessa, I have some doubts, but I like he assumes I'll keep hanging with them.
"Another question, who is he?" I move my gaze toward the boy next to Alessia.
I do my best to sound casual. I don't want to create any fake assumptions with my curiosity. That's why I don't want to ask Victoria.
"That," starts Adam after he took a sip of his cup. "This is Nate. And trust me or not, he is a frat boy too." I smile at his remarks.
"Do I hear reluctance in your voice when you talk about him?" I tease Adam, lifting my eyebrow.
"Not at all. It is just not so easy to live with so many people under the same roof. It sometimes creates some... tensions," he explains with a tiny smile.
I nod. I can understand that. I raise the cup that I will soon have to refill up to my mouth. And while my face is partially covered by it,I peek at Nate.
I already noticed his dark hair that keeps falling in his forehand, no matter how many times he pushes them back with his left hand. His legs are dressed in a black pair of skinny jean assorted with a white V t-shirt revealing tattoos on his arms. I wonder if he has more.
Alessia and he are listening to a boy, all smiling. They look so relaxed that it is hard to believe a few minutes ago, they were ready to eat me.
"Olivia! Olivia?"
The sound of my name diverts my attention before I could get caught. Victoria repeats my names until she obtains my attention.
"Are you up for a card game?" She asks.
"Sure, yes," I smile.
I stand up and go to sit back next to her at her demand, giving me the impression to be her little puppy. When I sit, Georgia tells me she is leaving with Noah to see where Chloe is. I nod.
Victoria briefly explains the rules and we start to play.
The good thing about drunk games is drinking without realizing it. The game isn't complicated. I never played it before, but I will definitively bring it back home. The fun comes alongside the climb of our blood alcohol level, the innocent game bringing less pure subjects. Alessia and Nate are playing as well, but I don't mind them.
Like in the car, I cross multiple times Adam's eyes, and as always, it is all I need to smile. He has the potential to make me feel welcome here.
Actually, they are all nice. I laugh more than I thought I would, considering the start of the night and I am learning a lot of stories and gossips about the university.
My cup never has the time to stay empty, nor full either.
The alcohol is making me dizzy, but nothing I can't handle. I remember my first real party. It was during my first year of high school. My best friend and I had been invited by older students she knew. I manage not to finish drunk, and even to hide it from my father. It was not the same story for my other parties. Since I have learned a few tricks that I intend to use to not end up in a bad situation.
"Oh.My. God. Isn't that your roommate?!" Says Victoria before laughing. I turn my head from the game and look at what he is laughing at. I struggle to believe the image I am watching. I want the alcohol to give me illusions, to let me think I am imagining everything, but the giggles around prove me otherwise.
Georgia, the shyness person I ever meet, who is blushing for every tiny thing is now dancing in the middle of the room with Noah. And they are attracting a lot of eyes on them.
They are facing each other, both stupidly smiling. They don't follow the rhythm of the music, dancing as they were alone, which they are, in the middle of the room. Their cheeks are red and their smiles huge.
I see people giggling and sneering from all part of the room. Some have even pulled out their phone to take videos.
"I would never have guessed she was that entertaining," chuckles Victoria.
I bit my lower lip, watching them helplessly.
Georgia looks to have fun, but I am not sure this little dance is intended.
When did she become so... extrovert?
I suddenly have a bad feeling, something very deep, from my gut.
An uncontrolled muttered "fuck" slips out of my mouth.
Georgia is drunk.
Fucking dead drunk.
