" some things are meant to be " | CH. FOURTEEN
---"i gotta hand it to you, Remus." Sirius said, eyeing the chocolate and note in Remus's hand. "You're one lucky cookie."
Remus smiled, letting the small twinge of red creep on his cheeks. The others were giving him teasing smirks as they got ready for the day. As usual, Remus decided to sit the day out. The night before really exhausted him a lot since he managed to break from his shackles in werewolf form, again. His arms were a bit sore because of it. And even though he was anticipating to meet Asteria that day, he physically can't move his body without feeling a lot of pain.
The note Asteria wrote still rested on his hand and he can't help but smile fondly at it.
Dear Remus,
I'm a bit upset you didn't tell me the truth yesterday but I guess I kind of understand. You told me once that you loved chocolates so I hope this is enough.
Rest, okay? You need to feel better soon, I miss having you as my study buddy already.
Sincerely,
Asteria
"Look Prongs, he's smiling and blushing and oh my god!" Sirius exclaimed, pointing at his direction while gripping on James cloak with his other hand.
"Leave him be, Pads. It's not often we get to see Moony here be in love." James said, taking Sirius's hand off him.
"It's a bloody miracle I tell you." The boy replied, turning again to a mirror to check his appearance. Once satisfied, he turned back to Remus. "She must be something, aye Moony?"
Remus only rolled his eyes in reply, not bothering to offer the boy a proper reply. He put the note to his night stand drawer, wincing a bit when his arm ached.
Seeing this, Peter spoke up. "I'll get you something for the pain later from the clinic."
Remus sighed in relief, giving him a grateful smile. "Thanks, Wormy. Is it okay to get me a cup of tea as well?"
The boy nodded in reply, "although it might come late though since I can't miss first period. My grades in Transfiguration will need a bloody miracle." James and Sirius chuckled at that.
"Don't worry, Wormy. You seem to forget you're friends with one of the best Transfiguration student in Hogwarts." James boasted, wrapping an arm around Peter. "I'll help you."
"I'll help too." Sirius said, walking closer to them. "Wouldn't want you to spend a year here in Hogwarts without us!"
Peter smiled genuinely at all of them, "thanks guys. I don't know what I'll do without you."
Remus cleared his throat, grabbing the attention of the trio. "I hate to be the one to break this heartfelt moment but breakfast is ending in twenty minutes, and while I would love you guys to stay longer I don't want you guys to face McGonagall's wrath for being late again."
At that, the boys went to take their leave. Each of them waving goodbye to Remus and telling him to rest and get better.
"Don't miss us too much!" Sirius called out behind his shoulder as he followed suit behind James.
Remus rolled his eyes again at the boy but a small smile was evident on his features. He turned his gaze back to the chocolate in his hand.
Carefully, he opened the pack then took one small piece of the chocolate. His thoughts wandered around as he wondered about books, classes and Asteria.
---that afternoon remus felt a whole lot better after drinking the potion Peter gave him earlier. It was only a matter of time before it fully healed him and he wondered why he didn't suggest taking the potion before. It must've slipped my mind.
Gently, he lifted himself off his bed. He felt a small ache at the bottom of his spine but it was much more bearable to him now than before. He took his blanket, a book, and the tea Peter gave him down to the common room as he felt slightly suffocated in their dorm.
Once there, he enjoyed the warmth of the fire. Snow was slowly thawing from the castle at this time of the year and he couldn't help but think about how time seemed to move fast this year. It felt like only a couple of days ago when he first encountered Asteria in the Hogwarts train. He sighed, thinking about her seemed to create this weird feeling inside of him.
Suddenly, the entrance opened and lo and behold it was the girl he was thinking of. Her brown hair seemed to pop out of the frame as she peeked through the door. Once she spotted Remus a small smile of delight emerged through her lips.
She quickly went over to him, she contemplated on hugging him but felt too awkward to push through it. Instead, she felt contented to just sit beside him. He was wearing a white T-shirt with a blanket covering him. In the midst of observing him, she noticed the bandages covering his arms.
"What happened to your arm?" She said, her eyes filled with worry as her eyebrows began to inch together in a frown. Remus missed her smile already.
"I fell and hurt my arm," he replied nonchalantly, "no need to worry." Throughout the years, he found easier to lie about his condition to the people he was close with.
"But there's blood on it," Asteria stated, eyeing him suspiciously. She wondered why he won't tell her the truth.
"It was quite a fall."
"What were you guys doing?" She questioned further although Remus was not going to tell her.
"Do you really want to know?" He said instead, "Asteria you shouldn't worry, okay? I'm fine."
The girl sighed, not trying to press further. "Just be careful next time, alright? Merlin knows I can't handle someone's death, especially yours."
"Why is that?" Remus asked, a cheeky grin plastered on his face as he awaited her answer.
"Because you're my friend, Remus." Asteria replied, fighting off the blush threatening to explode on her features.
Remus couldn't help but chuckle, that was until his eyes caught sight of numerous scars on her semi-exposed wrist. "What happened?" This time it was his turn to question her.
Asteria didn't bother to pull back her arm as Remus began to move her sleeves upward, showing more of her scars. "Don't worry Remus-" She started before being cut off.
"How can I not worry, Asteria. These... are a lot." He stated, almost scolding the girl.
"Well then I guess it's time you know about it." She breathed out, taking her hand off his.
"About what?" Remus asked, the look of worry not leaving his face.
Asteria smiled at him, feeling a bit giddy to finally tell him about her journey, "my soulmate."
"Soulmate?" Remus repeated, a confused frown on his face but inside he wanted to know further to test his theory, "what do you mean?"
"It's my bond," she answered, eyeing the scars, "my mum told me it all started to appear when I was four---the scars I mean. She said it was one of those rare bonds."
Everything began to make sense to Remus. Of course! He thought to himself. That was why he could never sense his bond because he was the one constantly making contact to her and even if she tried he wouldn't have noticed.
"I once tried to make contact with him and fell down a tree where I got this scar from," she pointed at the small one by her jaw. Subconsciously, Remus reached out to his identical one. "Louis laughed at me when I told him that." She added, a grumbled expression on her face.
Suddenly, Remus's scars felt more bearing to him now. As he looked towards the girl in front of him. With a dazed expression, he leaned forward to her and placed his hand on her cheek feeling the scar before he placed her hand to his identical one. His body didn't ache anymore as he continued to stare at her shocked eyes, it was probably because of the medicine but Remus was convinced it was because of her. His soulmate. He could almost feel his eyes water from so much happiness.
"I found you."
---back in ilvermorny the next day, an owl stopped in front of Louis while he was eating lunch in their canteen. Imogen continued eating away at her food as the boy took the letter, he gave the owl a piece of bread, seeing the exhaustion of the poor animal. His eyes skimmed the letter before a huge smirk crossed his face.
"Wha' ar' you smiling abou'." Imogen asked through her mouthfuls.
"Read this," Louis replied, handing her the letter.
Dearest Best Friend Louis,
I found him. And holy shit do I have a lot to tell you. Hope you get to visit me soon! I don't want to tell you the details here since as you have said before "it's more juicy" in person.
I feel so happy! Is this how you felt? Merlin, take the wheel! My poor heart can't handle this much joy and happiness. I just can't express it in words anymore!
At times like these I wish you're right here with me. We'd be fangirling about this till morning. But that doesn't mean I'm not fangirling about it now!
Please write back to me when you get this, I wanna know how excited you are like me :)
Sincerely
The Ever Beautiful Ria
P.S. how's Imogen doing? Still not sick of you already I hope? Tell her I miss her and that she is welcome to come with you when you visit :)
"Wow..." Imogen breathed out before she smiled. "I'm happy for her."
Louis grinned back, wrapping his arms around her. "I'm glad you are since there'll be a ton of double dates you and I are attending to from now on."
The girl chuckled at her, "so you fangirl, huh?" She teased causing the boy to blush.
"Imogen, I love you but please shut up." This made her explode with laughter, reveling in the boy's obvious embarrassment.
"So," she said once she successfully managed to compose herself, "we're heading there straight after graduation?"
Louis nodded, "let's visit my parents first then to Ria's."
The blonde girl hummed in agreement as she turned her attention back to her lunch.
