04 | LOUIS
❝ see you again ❞ | CH. FOUR
---leaving was never a good thing. Though it wasn't new for Louis Davies. He's experienced loss a lot of times before, the sudden passing of a loved one to the eternal pane of oblivion was something he experience before. Unfortunately, that certain loved one was his father. At the age of fifteen, he saw his father die. The war was slowly putting into transition as by the downfall of the infamous wizard Grindelwald, to Voldemort.
It was a snow day when it happened, Louis' father just happened to visit London to help find some wizards and witches who went missing a couple days back. He was one of the greatest Aurors of America, it wasn't much of a question why the Ministry would hire him.
The cold breeze caused a shiver to went down Louis' spine. He wasn't use to the temperature of the UK anymore, a side effect of their move to the US. He clutched his jacket tighter around his body in hopes it'll make him warmer. A cold fog formed in front of his lips as he let out a shaky breath, his eye brows furrowing at it.
"Hey son!" His father greeted, his right hand waving just above his head as he walked towards him. Engulfing him in a hug. Louis sighed in relief at the warm embrace before pulling away. "How's London treating you so far?"
"Like sh-shit," he whispered, letting out a shaky breath.
His father furrowed his eyebrows at him before smiling and chuckling. "Language," he said in between laughs before tousling his hair. Making Louis to shake his head in response. "It seems like only yesterday when I use to change your diapers."
Louis' face suddenly grew warmer by the declaration before pushing his dad's hands away.
"Shut up," he muttered under his breath, shoving his hands on the pockets of his coat before looking down. "I'm not a kid anymore, you know?"
His dad only sighed in response, "I know, kiddo." He looked wistfully at Louis, almost regretting how much time he didn't give him when he was young. "I just wish time won't go too fast."
"I bet," Louis smiled, looking up to him, "you're getting older by the minute!"
He laughed. His dad smiled at him, suddenly seeing a younger versions Louis instead of the present one. The last time they talked like this was when he left a year ago for this job. Still, he was glad to see his son. Even when I get old and forget you, I will always be proud of you.
A loud roar of thunder cut Louis' laughter off, soon followed by insane laughter. Suddenly, the sky turned green, illuminating the dark clouds menacingly as a shape of a skull and a snake cake into view.
"Louis, go," his father said, looking at him sternly. But he didn't heard him. His mind was too engrossed at the mark engraved in the clouds. His eyes fixed on the snake and the skull as if it was the most mesmerizing thing in the world.
A blue ray of light suddenly flew past Louis' cheek, cutting off his train of thought. Another deranged giggle rang through the air, making Louis snap his head up to see five people zooming over them with their brooms.
"Louis, go! And don't turn back." His father ordered, louder this time. Louis looked at him with confusion and fear.
"Wh-what about you?" He asked, his mind whirring in a million thoughts by the second. His eyes fixed on his father as he took his wand out.
"I'll be okay, go check your mother." He said, Louis nodded before obeying, turning on his heel as he made a beeline to the small cottage they were staying at.
His father only watched as he walked away. Once he was far enough, he turned his back on the five ascending Death Eaters, holding his wand firmly before casting a shield around the perimeter. He felt his power draining as he muttered the spell over and over again but he didn't took any form of notice to it. What was important now was his family.
"Well, well, well," a taunting voice said. Louis' dad chanted the spell a few more times before turning around to face the intruders. "If it isn't the famous, well-knowned, Jonathan Davies." Said the woman at the midde of the group. "I must say, I expected more from Antonette. But knowing my sister, she did have a knack for disappointing our parents. Being a pathetic squib, turning her back on proper wizard ethics and eventually marrying a filthy little mudblood, tainting the family name more than she already had."
His eyes were getting a bit blurry from the spell, his legs a bit wobbly as well. Still, his stance didn't waver. Number one rule in duelling, never show weakness. Because then, the opponent will know your attack.
"Expelliarmus!" The woman screeched, her wand pointing at him he managed to block it. "Stupefy!" Another block. The woman was becoming furious at him, and so were the other four next to her.
"Victoria, stop playing around and kill him already!" One of them groaned.
Jonathan could only muster a few of his strength as he pointed his wand at her. "Petrificus Tortalus!" He muttered under his breath. Victoria stiffened before falling on the ground, face first.
The guy from before only rolled his eyes at her still form before grabbing his wand from his pocket. "If you want something right, you have to do it yourself." He grunbled under his breath.
"Expelliarmus!" Jonathan whispered quietly, making the wand to fly out of the Death Eater's grasp. The wand landed a few centimeters from him, not really having enough strength to catch it.
"Why you little," the man said, infuriated before grabbing Victoria's wand out of her stiff hands. "I will make you pay you filthy mudblood, how dare you disarm your superior?" He said, lifting the wand and pointing it at him. "I will make you pay for what you have done." He whispered.
"Crucio!"
"Dad?" The sound of Louis' desperate call made Jonathan to look at him. His body feeling a painful sensation go up his spine, making him arch backwards in pain. "Dad!" Louis said running towards him, only to be stopped by the shield.
"This your son, Davies?" The man said, taunting him like what Victoria did. "It would be a shame if something happened to him, don't you think?"
The spell was lifted off of him, making him gasp for air. "Don't you dare hurt my family."
"Who said anything about hurting them?" He said, "you see, physical pain, it'll last. Wounds heal, scars can fade sometimes." He twirled the wand over his fingers as he walked to him. Kneeling down just a few feet from his head before taking his own wand from the grass and throwing Victoria's on the ground. He turned to him with a smirk plastered on his face, "It's the mind that matters."
The man snatched the wand from his hand before standing up and breaking it in half. Louis kept on pounding on the glass wall as he watched helpless at his father. The man pointed his wand once again at him before muttering the spell once again.
"Stop!" Louis yelled through the other side, "you're killing him!"
The man let out a laugh, "that's the point."
Victoria, who was no able to move, stood beside him. Pinching her nose as a few blood oozed out of it. The three men standing behind them like extras in a movie.
The man then sighed before turning to Victoria, "would you like to do the honor?"
A twisted smile was plastered on her face as the words slip through his mouth, she quickly took her wand from the grass as she pointed it to the limp man. She turned her head to Louis, giving him a taunting smirk as he continued pounding furiously at the shield.
"Say good bye to daddy, half blood." She said, spitting the last few words off her mouth as if it was poison. She finally turned to Jonathan before raising her wand.
"Avada Kedavra!"
"No!" Louis yelled, but it was no use as the green light connected with his father's body.
Victoria let out another screech of laughter before mounting her broom and flying away, the other four following behind.
Jonathan Davies was dead.
---louis smiled down Asteria as he hugged her. It may be two different types of loss but that doesn't mean it hurts any less. He squeezed her tighter, as if it was the last he'll ever get to hug her. The cherry scent of her hair filling his nose as he smiled. He'll miss her.
"Write to me okay?" He said, rubbing her back as he rested her chin on her head.
"Of course," she replied, pulling away from the hug and looking up at him. "Don't forget to reply, okay?"
"It's not like I have a pile of letters being sent to me daily," he said sarcastically.
The horn of the train caught both of their attentions as Asteria picked up her cases. "You know what I mean," she said, "Don't forget me, alright?"
"How can I, when you're gonna send me letter everyday."
"You sarcastic little shit," Asteria muttered under her breath, all the while smiling at him, "Who told I'll write everyday?"
"Because if you didn't then I won't send your birthday present." Louis threatened.
"Okay, you got me." Asteria said, stapping in the train, "goodbye, dweeb!"
"Farewell, dork!" He said, waving his hand over his head as the train began to move forward. Asteria placed her luggage down and peeped her head out the door's window and waved back.
Once she was out of view, Louis sighed. Looking down his shoes as he stood there for a few moments before beginning to walk back to Ilvermorny.
He sat by one of the benches in front of the school. He cupped his hand together and let out an exhale of warm air against it, in hopes to heat it up a bit.
"You look loney," Louis turned his head to the voice, to see a girl with blonde hair standing there. She nonchalantly sat next to him, not taking her eyes away from him.
"I'm Imogen by the way," she said taking her hand out, "Imogen Johnson, and you are?"
"Louis Davies," he answered, taking her hand in his and lightly shaking it. It felt warm against his, and he liked the feeling of it, purposely letting his hand linger a bit before pulling it back.
"Rough day?" She asked, slumping down the chair and turning to look at the trees in front of them.
"You can say that," Louis shrugged, imitating her stance as he slouched next to her.
"Let me guess," said Imogen, "you thought that someone was your soulmate only to realize that they aren't." She turned her head lazily at him as he nodded. "Yup, been there too. Don't worry, it gets better."
"I hope so," he said.
"It will!" She insisted, sitting up straighter as she turned to him. She lifted up her sweater cover wrist and pulling down the sleeve. The words, "excuse me" written on her arm. "Sucks, am I right? Actually thought three different guys were the one, only to be proven not." She frowned.
"You're very unlucky then," Louis replied, not really knowing what else to say to her.
"Tell me about it," she rolled her eyes before standing up. "Anyways, if you need to talk then I'm always in the library."
"I'll keep that in mind," Louis smiled as she smiled back and walked back to the school. She was nice. Louis thought to himself, it must be really hard to be her. Having such a common phrase tattooed on her skin as a sign of her soul mate. Meanwhile his was very uncommon he coul---
Louis suddenly stiffened as she turned to where Imogen went. "Wa-wait!" He yelled out as he remembered what she said.
"You look lonely."
