Chapter 1: The Fateful First Meeting
Once upon a time in a magical land called Sekai, there lived a little girl called Kusanagi Nene. While most girls her age were very bubbly and joyous, she was more shy and timid, meaning she didn't have many friends, and neither did she want any.
If Nene was allowed to spend all of her time in her house and never have to go outside, she would, but her parents along with the societal pressure of having to make friends meant that she would have to spend at least a little time away from her sanctuary with others.
So what did the green haired girl do? She decided to hide in any bushes or shrubs she could find. Those became her new safe place in order to avoid the children that she was too scared to interact with.
One day, which soon would become a fateful day that the girl would remember for the rest of her life, Nene found a cherry blossom tree. But this wasn't any ordinary cherry blossom tree, no, this was the tallest cherry blossom tree in all of Sekai and stories she had over heard told that that the tree was planted by the goddess Hatsune Miku herself and if you wish upon one of the fallen blossoms, your wish will come true.
The girl had heard about this tree all of her life but this was the first time she had finally seen it. She had always been scared that other children would be lurking around to make wishes but the area seemed very quiet and serene on that day.
Nene approached the tree and then remembered something important about it. In the stories she had heard, it said that you have to sing your wish for it to come true. And Nene wasn't very confident in singing, especially if she knew people might hear her.
She looked around cautiously and then tried to whistle her dream, but it didn't work. She tried to quietly sing the dream but that didn't work either. Knowing that she wpuld gave no choice, she took a deep breath and began to sing.
The fallen blossoms began to glow a bright pink and started to levitate up from the ground as she sang. She thought she would be fine but then suddenly she heard footsteps approaching and she jumped into a bush nearby, the cherry blossoms dropping back to the ground and losing their glow.
Entering the clearing where the cherry blossom tree stood was a little girl called Hanasato Minori. She lived nearby Nene and like most of the other girls her age, she was always happy and smiling and able to make friends with ease.
She skipped up to the tree and then looked up and admired it. Similarly to Nene, she had never seen it in bloom before so she wanted to take in every second she has while she thought she was alone.
Then, Minori took a deep breath and began to sing like the other girl had. Nene listened closely but to her suprise, the brunette wasn't singing her wish, but instead a song she knew.
The song was one by a girl their age called Kiritani Haruka. The blue haired girl was very well known among the village as someone who could bring people happiness and hope through music.
Because Minori was about to get to the chorus of the song and Nene knew the words very well, she began to sing along too. The brunette haired girl ears perked up when she could hear another voice dueting with her so she tiptoed around the bushes to see if she could find them.
The green haired girl in the bush couldn't hear the footsteps so she continued to sing. Minori then knew where the voice was coming from so she peaked her head into the bush and smiled when she found a girl who looked the same age in there.
"Hello!" She greeted.
Nene screamed and backed away, caught off guard from the sudden greeting.
"Don't stop singing, you're really good!" Minori exclaimed while blushing.
The green haired girl began breathing very heavily and felt she was about to hyperventilate.
"At least come on out from this bush, it's dark in here!" The brunette suggested and held out her hand.
After a few seconds, very reluctantly, Nene took hold of her hand which made herself blush. Minori then dragged her up and out of the bush. Both of their hair became messy and while the former was trying to brush leaves out of hers, the latter shook her head left and right quickly and then let her hair stay messy, which suited her.
The brunette then sat down cross-legged and patted the floor, signalling for the other girl to sit next her her. Nene then sat down, hugging her own knees as she felt very anxious.
"Hello! My name is Hanasato Minori!" Minori greeted excitedly, switching from sitting cross-legged to sitting on her knees so she could lean in closer to her, "What is your name?"
"I-I a-am K-kusanagi N-nene..." Nene stuttered, her nervousness getting in the way of her possibly making a friend.
"It's nice to meet you, Nene-chan!" The brunette haired girl replied, "You sing really nicely!"
"Th-thank you, y-you were g-good too..." The green haired girl returned the compliment while blushing from what Minori had said.
"Thank you, but you're so much! You're almost just as good as Haruka!" Minori argued, blushing from thinking about her idol.
Nene nodded while smiling a little but she wasn't too sure what to say next. She hasn't usually managed to get this far when having a conversation with someone her age. This was even her first time complimenting someone.
"So, are you here to see the cherry blossom tree?" The brunette asked.
The green haired girl nodded, "Y-yes, I was about to make a wish until you arrived."
"You were? I'm so sorry, Nene-chan!" Minori apologised, blushing from embarrassment.
"It's fine, Hanasato-san," Nene replied.
"You don't need to be do formal! We're friends now, so you can call me Minori-chan!" The brunette haired girl informed.
"Really?" The green haired girl questioned with a very shocked face.
Nene did already have a friend called Rui but they were friends because they are neighbours and met through their parents being close, so this would be the first friend she was about to make on her own without her parents' help as long as the other girl wasn't joking.
"Of course!" Minori grinned.
"O-okay," Nene nodded, "Thank you, M-minori-chan."
"Thank you too, Nene-chan!" Minori gave her gratitude as well.
The two then turned their attention to the cherry blossom tree. The wind made some of the blossom to start to fall off and they were blowing in their direction. It felt like to them that the goddess Miku was blessing their newly formed friendship and that she had made it fate for them to meet in the first place.
Minori picked one up from the grass surrounding the two of them and put it in Nene's hair. The green haired girl blushed and smiled and she was about to get one for her too but then the brunette stood up and made a pile of the flowers.
She then picked the pile up and threw it over the top of them, the cherry blossoms fluttering into their hair and back onto the floor. The two looked very silly with all of the flowers they had in their hair so they blushed and giggled together.
And that's how the friendship between Nene and Minori first sprouted...
