59- Why are you lying...?
Dedicated to- AyraaB
"By my father's accident.... She threatened me by my father's accident."
"Can you be a little more specific."
I saw her gulping down nervously with her eyes casted downwards. She was clearly nervous but then after few seconds, she again lifted her head and started speaking.
"My father has asthma from childhood. He was in his Stage 4 since last two year. He should have been resting at home but he was soo stubborn and always doing whatever he wanted to. As, every attempt of making him understand, would turn into a fight which also used to effect his health, me and mom stopped making him understand because it was useless after all.
We all were very afraid as even after spending 30,000 rupees each month on that medicine, his condition wasn't getting any better. It was just getting more worse.
Last year, suddenly we got a call from the hospital and they said that my father was hospitalized. We both got scared and thought that it was because of asthma but when we reached there, we came to know that it was an accident.
It was a relief that he was getting better but then we came to know about a goosebumps giving news....
My father never had Stage 4 asthma. Yes, he was having asthma but of Stage 2 and not Stage 4. The medicine was the one which was making his condition more worse and not the asthma. It come as a shock as that hospital is one of the reputed hospital in the city right now and they misdiagnosed it. It was unbelievable.
We felt helpless as we can't even go against them. They were really very powerful and we were powerless. But then, suddenly one day, in my bag, I got a letter which stated that if I want revenge for my father's mistreatment, I should accept their offer. I was baffled by that letter but I was in my right mind and never went on the address written on that letter.
After one week of silence, I was forced to go there and was threatened by my father's accident. They told that it wasn't an hit-and-run case but it was pre-planned.
At first, I didn't trusted them but as they started bringing evidence in front of me, I started believing them and that's how I was trapped in the trap created by them. Even when I knew that I was trapped, I couldn't do anything to get out of it.
When I was in the hospital, Vidhika Di came to me and threatened me with the same technique used by them to hack the system. As I didn't knew that the truth that time, I did as she said in fear of my father's health."
I nodded as I kept my hand on top of her to comfort her before turning around to face the judge for giving further explanation. Even though I looked calm, I was burning in anger from inside.
"Your honour, I hope that you remember that when Miss. Kumar went that terrific attack, her father got into an accident immediately after two or three days.
I had a doubt a that this both incidents are related to each other but I didn't got any evidence, so I couldn't say anything. Even police side lined this case saying that it was a hit-and-run case.
But few days ago, when I decided that I will again go through each and every details of this case from the very starting, My secretary found something very amazing which I didn't considered earlier."
I looked at Shamika and then at Uditasree before going to the desk and taking out the papers.
"Your honour, this papers are the call records of Mr. Kumar. This call records police themselves had given me when the accident happened and I have already given a copy to Mrs. Qatar."
My eyes followed the copy as it was passed towards the judge. Finally when it was in his hands, I stood still and decided to speak again.
"Your honour, if we see the location of Mr. Kumar's phone at the date of his accident which happened after Miss. Kumar's acid attack, before his accident, he got a phone call from a number.
What makes this number suspicious is that when we removed the call records of this suspicious number, we came to know that this number is a fake one and purchased only to call Mr. Kumar as he was the only one to be called by that phone number.
What makes it more doubtful is that the moment he kept the phone down, the accident happened and his car was parked in the side of the road, not in the middle of the road, said earlier by Mr. Singhania. I have given the copy of the that number's phone record to Mrs. Qatar.
I beg your pardon as Mr. Kumar is again been hospitalized and cannot come here until the doctor permits him too, he can't give his statements."
The judge nodded and told to continue questioning Miss. Kumar if I have more questions for her.
"Miss. Kumar, what you said earlier that you knew that you were caught in a trap but you can't get out of it, what do you mean by that...?"
She took a deep breath before telling the court what happened three months ago. She looked the judge and spoke.
"Your honour, When I came to know that they were just using me for their own benefit and will not bring justice to my father, I threatened them that I will go and report them to the police and I was going to report them after my college when I saw Adhya getting letter.
At first, it seemed very weird as the letter she got and the letter I got, were very similar. When I read that letter, I immediately came to know who were the one she got letter from just by seeing handwriting.
I am very protective of my friend and that they used against me. They kept on sending Adhya the letters and told her to complaint to the police but she was also afraid, just like me.
We both were afraid of them, of the society and of the people around us. What if we complaint and they kill us or something wrong with us. That was going in my mind and exactly that's what happened. My fears come true."
"Can you explain how they looked or something related to them...?"
I immediately asked her as she was done speaking. I saw her lost in her thoughts after she heard my question.
"It may come as weird but in this 6 months, I have never seen their faces. We used just meet once in a month and too they used to just threaten me and abuse me or just messages.
They used wear this black colour mask and always used to cover left part of upper arms. I have never seen them removing it the bandage of that area.
Other than that, I don't remember anything now."
I nodded as I picked up a paper and showed to her and told her to confirm to the court that this people were the same people.
"Before going ahead with my next question and the last question for today, were the people who attacked you, are they same people who abused you..?"
"Yes, they were the same."
I was startled with her sudden rise of voice. To be honest more than startled, I was shocked but still I went with the flow.
I again nodded to her explanation as I asked the last question for today which I have in store for her.
"Miss. Shamika, from what I have heard is that you and your best friend are really very close and always share everything with each other. So I want to ask you the last question for today which is that do you think Miss. Adhya Sharma, knew that you were going through a mental assualt...?"
After I was done asking, I saw shamika looking at Adhya and it felt like they were talking through an eye-contact.
"Yes, she knew. But before she can do anything to help me, she was also pulled inside this mess."
"Yes, she was definitely pulled inside the mess but are sure that whatever you saying is the complete truth and not the one which you are told to say..? In short.......
Why are you lying in front of the whole court, Miss. Kumar...?"
