Kenzie's pov

I walked over to the little shop on the corner and picked up the New York's Times magazine flipping through the pages before finding the article and a group picture of everyone. I smiled bringing memories back from that trip it was so fun and educational I read a bit of the article before the guy bugged me about buying it. I gave him the cash and then left heading back to the condo to see if everyone would want to go to the beach. When I got to the condo Cameron, Chris, and Crawford were hanging out playing video games. "I bet I could still kick your ass at Mario kart" I say walking inside and putting my keys on the hoop. "Psst yeah right I'm the master at Mario kart" Cameron says getting up and putting the controller on the table "so let me see it" he takes the magazine off me and looks at the picture and began reading it out loud. "A group calling themselves the GreyCollins foundation set off to South Africa in hopes of changing the lives of those people. They built houses and provided food and clean water when they finished a bunch of families had new homes to live in" Cameron spoke tossing the magazine back to me "wow you go girl" he winks and I laugh "so are we doing the beach today or what?" I ask they all nod "then let's gather up the gang and head out" I laugh "the gang" Chris says "what else do you want me to call it?" I ask "anything but that" he shakes his head and I continue to laugh.

When we get to the beach with the others we put down our stuff and run straight to the water. It was cold but once you got in it was nice pretty relaxing actually. I floated around for a bit and we all played around then I got out to go take some pictures of everyone. I got my phone and climbed this rock that stuck in the water a bit to get a better view of the sky and everyone else. I held my phone up and began to take pictures when I heard someone calling me out quietly but clearly. I looked down between the rocks to see Matt wait Matt!? "What the hell are you doing here!?" I spit out jumping off the rock to meet him. "I thought it was finally time for me to explain this to you" I sigh "as much as I would love that right now isn't a good time" I say "when is it ever going to be a good time" he makes a good point so I stay and listen. "When I woke up you could imagine I was pretty scared I was out for a while I had no clue where I was and when nurses and doctors surrounded me I got even more scared so much that I panicked and attacked one of the doctors. I nod my head to show him I was listening so he continued. "I accidentally stabbed the doctor in the throat with a scalpel" I gasp covering my mouth with my hands. "They sedated me and then rushed him out of the room when I woke up later I woke up to the news that he didn't make it and I was being charged for murder" "but you didn't know where you were or what you were doing you were in a coma for crying out loud" I say raising my hands "I know, I know, but they didn't see it that way and I couldn't go to jail after being in a coma for so long so I ran" Matt took a deep breath. "I took my things and I left the hospital that night running away as far as I possibly could" I nod grabbing his hands "and you've been running ever since" I say he nods "Matthew.." I began "you need to go speak to the police and explain yourself" he shakes his head letting go of my hands "they'll just throw me in jail" he says pacing "so what are you gonna do keep running until they catch you Matt this isn't healthy please" I beg him "I have to go" he says putting his hoodie on and climbing the rocks "Matt wait" I began to climb the rocks as well when I get to the top he's gone he just vanished.

The rest of the day was pretty shit now that I knew the whole story behind Matt. I wanted to help him so bad but he didn't want help he just wanted to be left alone to figure this out on his own. I tried to call him but he must of switched phones again because it kept saying the caller was no longer in service. I went to bed reading the magazine that night but all I could think about was Matt. I wonder where he is right now, if he's out on the streets or somewhere warm and safe. Matts been living like this for years and I couldn't imagine doing that. That morning I woke up early like usual and made myself a tea and sat out on the deck with my phone scrolling through it drinking my tea.

The glass door slide open I looked up through my glasses to see Cameron he closed the door and walked over to the vacant seat with a coffee in his hand he was shirtless as usual I've grown used to it by now. "What are you doing up so early?" He asks taking a seat. I shrug and look out at the sunrise "I enjoy watching the sunrise" I say taking a sip of my tea "what about you?" I ask he hums and swallows the remaining coffee in his mouth. "After all the traveling and having to get up early every morning to get on a plane I guess my body got used to it and now I naturally wake up early" he explains. I take another sip of my tea the warm mug making my hands warm and the rest of my body as I gulped down the liquid. "Can I ask you something?" I look over at Cameron he had a serious expression. "Yeah, sure" I respond facing him "have you ever wondered what Matt did to end up in this situation?" Suddenly it hits me I was the only one Matt has told about what he did. Do I tell Cameron? It isn't my place to tell him so I don't think I should. "Not really, I'm more focused on getting Matt out of what he's done" I say and Cameron nods "yeah, you're right" he stands up from his seat his empty mug in his hand and sends me a smile "do you remember that little breakfast shack we used to go to that made the best waffles?" He asks I place my mug on the glass table "yeah, I do we used to go there a lot" I say standing up and grabbing the mug from the table. "You wanna go get breakfast?" You could see how nervous he was about asking me that Cameron was never the type to get nervous but when he swayed back and forth and didn't make eye contact with me you could tell he was nervous. "Sure, sounds great!" I smile my cheeks tinted pink now Cameron's body language changes back into the confident Cameron I knew "let me just change real quick" I go inside with Cameron and put my mug in the sink then I run upstairs to change. When I was done we headed out to the little shack which I forgot the name off but never the location of where it was.

We pulled into the stone parking lot luckily this place was still open. I got out reading the sign "tommy's waffle shack" I smile "that's what it was called" I say getting out of the car and heading inside with Cameron behind me. "Wait" I turn around Cameron runs ahead and grabs the door for me "just like old times" I smile thanking him and walking inside. An older girl was waiting at a little podium to take the customers to their seats she smiled when we walked inside. "Table for two?" She asks and I nod she grabs what she needs then takes us to our seats which were by the window underneath a cute little yellow dangling light. "Your waitress will be right with you" she smiles walking off I look out the window which you could see the car from the sun has now risen and more people were now arriving at the shack. "Does this bring back memories or what" Cameron says tapping his fingers on the wooden table I agree by nodding "yeah, it hasn't changed a bit" I say looking around at the familiar place bringing back old memories mostly of Cameron and I when we were together. I looked outside again Tommy's shack was the only place out here the next gas station wasn't for a couple miles it was a bit out but so worth the drive and there's a town a couple miles down from here as well which is were Tommy gets most of his customers.

"Hi, my name is Izzy I am your waitress for today can I start you guys off with any drinks?" A blonde lady walks over with a pad and a pen in her hands ready to take our order. "I'll have a small chocolate milk thank you" I smile and she writes it down "I'll just take a water" Cameron says I glare at him. When the waitress walks away Cameron looks at me confused "what was that look for?" "Of course I get the $3 drink and you get the free one" he laughs the waitress comes back over with our drinks and then takes our orders of course we get the famous waffles and while waiting we play a game of eye spy. "Eye spy with my little eye something that is...red!" I say while Cameron looks around and names of all the possible red items I have picked once he got it right the food came and we ate. "These are just as good as I remember" he says stuffing his face I laugh and continue to eat. "What's so funny?" He asks "it it very delicious but not as delicious when it's chewed up in someone's mouth" I say Cameron gets the hint and apologizes. When we finish eat Cameron and I were taking out money to go halves on for the meal we began playing eye spy again to pass the time while we waited for the lady "I spy with my little eye" I began when I saw something from the corner of my eye I looked out the window and my eyes widened "you're car getting stolen!" I finish Cameron looks out the window and sees 2 guys hijacking his car he curses sliding out of the booth and bolting outside but it was to late the guys had took off with his car. Cameron comes back inside with a pissed off expression "what are we gonna do now?" I ask Cameron takes out his phone to call someone but realizes there isn't any cell service here. "Maybe in that town a couple miles down there's some service and we can call someone" I say Cameron agrees nodding his head taking out the money from his pocket and putting his half on then we grab our stuff and thank the staff before leaving.

We began our long journey of walking 2 miles to the small town I decided to stick my thumb out and hopefully get a hitch hike. Only a couple cars usually pass by down here so we were hoping for some luck. Suddenly an old beat up truck stops in front of us we walk over to the passenger window and the person rolls the window down. I couldn't believe who I saw sitting in the drivers seat.
