1.Through her eyes
She stood on the roadside , lost in the crowd
The day's light that guided others, for her a blindfold.
Shielding her eyes, she stepped onto the road.
Fearing the blaring horns of a car that had come too close.
At times she wished she were invisible to the world
As it was to her, unless looked for.
She prayed for the specks of misfortune that blinded her to be erased
Then she could walk in the sun, her head raised.
Many frowned as she walked past, not returning their smiles
They never knew that she was fighting a losing battle with her sight.
Did those judged her knew, how fortunate they were?
For just a broken strand in the genome, could change their fate.
Her books rested on the shelf, their pages could no longer be read.
As she sat hunched ,scrolling through her phone instead.
Under the silvery gaze of the moon, she told a story
Unseen to her, the little angel beside her had fallen asleep.
As her child's faint snores reached her ears,
She shed the smiling mask that concealed her fears.
She wished the world could see through her eyes.
And she cried for the many sights that she would never see.
The prompt is 'Corneal Dystrophy'. A condition where the cornea of the eye becomes opaque, resulting in reduced vision or loss of it. Could be progressive or stable.
Dedicated to all those out there who had not had the opportunity to truly admire the beauty of this world, through their eyes.
