I parked down the road from where they stopped and jumped out. I made my way slowly through the trees, trying to find a spot that was close enough that I could hear them speaking and not be seen. After settling behind a tree, just behind April, I saw all of the events uncurl. The portal opening and his begs for her to come with him. If I wait any longer to reveal myself, it might be too late. So I stepped out from behind the tree and took a deep breath.

Boldly I shouted “April, you can’t go with him.”

They both looked at me in shock. Matthew hissed at me and then grinned.

“You know April; I’m not the only one who has lied to you. Will you tell her Michael or shall I?”

I looked at the expression on Aprils face; it was mixed with hurt and confusion.

“April, you have to believe that I was going to tell you, I just didn’t know how. I wanted to wait for the perfect moment… but none came”

I sighed. “I’m an angel. I’m your guardian angel.”

She just stood there for a long moment, not moving a single muscle. Well great, I thought. This is going well.

I looked at Matthew; he was looking back and forth between April and I, impatiently. I could see that his body was beginning to glow even more. I stepped forward towards April to try and get her away from him, in case he had any last minute plan. She stepped away from me. That one small gesture made my heart sink. How could I be so stupid? Of course she wouldn’t except me, let alone love me in return.

Seconds later Matthew grabbed her around the neck in a choke hold and started to make his way towards the portal.

“Don’t try anything funny Angel boy. One step and ill snap her neck like a tooth pick.”

I bit my lip. Crap.

“Let her go Matthew, find another” I said calmly.

“You know I can’t do that buddy. My time is almost up, I only have a minute left” he began pulling her more forcefully as she struggled against him.

I looked into April’s eyes. Those blue eyes could make any heart melt. She gave me strength and gave me a great idea. Angels have telepathy skills! Why didn’t I think of that earlier? I focused completely on her mind. The world around me began to fade to darkness. The only thing I could see was her.

’April, you have to listen to me right now. Close your eyes and you will be free.’

‘Holy crap, what the hell is this? How can I hear you when you aren’t talking?’

‘I’ll explain later. Just please trust me.’

‘Trust you?! You’ve been lying to me all this time Michael!’

‘Would you rather be lost forever with Matthew?’

April paused for a few seconds.

‘…..Fine’

April closed her eyes and I returned my attention back to reality. Summoning all of the power I could gather, I released it, my light wings sprouting from my body. By using even more power when revealing them, it gave me the quick opportunity to get April away from Matthew.

He screamed in agony, as his eyes burned.
