When we arrived at Lillipa Lake, I marvelled at the beautiful scenery. The air was fresh and warm. It was sunset and the sun displayed a serene golden ray of light over the calm water. Flowers of many vibrant colours surrounded the lake and also lead towards Frane woods, towards the opposite of the lake. Smiling, I lowered myself to the soft grass below and laid down. I then closed my eyes, trying to savour this moment of peace.

“What are you doing?”

I opened an eye to see Matthew staring down over me inquisitively.

“Enjoying myself” I said, flashing a grin.

Then I noticed he seemed to look worried.

I sat up “Everything okay Matt?”

“I… uh… I want to be honest. I haven’t been completely truthful with you.”

Now it was my turn to look inquisitively at him. “What do you mean Matt?” 

“Well… I really like you April. You’re very special to me. I want to be honest with you. Just please don’t judge me when I tell you.”

At that moment I felt like I was on top of the world. He liked me. He really liked me! But at that same time, that scared feeling I got before was back and it was stronger than ever.

“Just tell me Matt” I said, trying to keep my cool.

“Okay well… there’s no easy way to say this but… I’m a Faery.”

I looked at him, bewildered. What kind of game is he playing at?

“Very funny Matt” I laughed.

“I’m serious April, don’t you believe me?” he looked solemnly at me.

“I’m sorry Matt but what you’re saying is ridiculous”

“Fine if you don’t believe me.. I’ll show you.”

With that he walked over to the lake. Humouring him, I followed. He spoke some type of language that I’d never even heard of. Part of me was telling me to run. He then placed his index finger on the surface of the lake and a light flashed so brightly, I had to cover my eyes.

After a few moments I regained my vision. Looking down at the lake, I saw a vortex of swirling water, the light emanating from it. I could no longer see Matthew. This was really creepy. Deciding I should now definitely leave, I turned around to see Matthew face to face with me. My heart race increased then and that gut feeling exploded into my mind saying, GET OUT OF HERE NOW. He slid his hand along the side of my face and left goose bumps.

“I’m sorry if I scared you. Please don’t leave. I want you to come with me.”

He then kissed my lips softly and sweetly. The feeling to be with him increased even more with that one kiss. That’s when I knew, he was manipulating me, like Faeries do.

“Come with you where?” I stuttered.

He grinned, “To my home, to my real home. Come with me. I love you and I always want to be with you.”

He reached out for my hand but I took a step back. “This is ridiculous. This is crazy. I can’t… I’m not going anywhere with you.”

“Please?” he reached out towards me again with a look of great pain on his face.

That look hurt me inside but no, I wouldn’t say yes.
