Not-So-Strange Strangers?
A new chapter! Thank you all for your awesome support! I'm so glad you guys like the story! It means so much to me!!! :DDDDDDDDD
Okay. I'm calm now. :3
Speaking of super calm, I didn't even attempt to write Sweden's accent. I've done Japan's and... Let's just say it didn't work out...
Anyways, I hope you enjoy this chapter!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lukas' distressed cries faded and were overpowered by the whirling of wind whistling through your ears.
You watched the gaping tear in the veil of the sky, shrink rapidly. Lukas' figure grew smaller and smaller, until he was a purple speck.
Then, you realized, he wasn't growing smaller.
You flailed and screamed at the fact that YOU were rapidly descending hundreds of feet per second. Your frenzied shouts were snatched away by the cruel wind. Your aimless flailing only served to give you a jostling view of what you were careening towards.
You gawked at the wide expanse of clear blue water below you. This lake would have normally struck you with breathtaking awe, but now it only coddled the immense fear that was roiling up within you.
You plummeted like a stone, towards the smooth sapphire surface. The crystal water, while being of excellent quality, denied you a view of the far-reaching bottom.
The momentum that hurdled you downward, promised a hard (and incredibly painful) landing. You ground your teeth and clenched your fists, expecting a lake of pain to greet you. Then, the voices of the book chanted a single word again and again, filling your mind with its faint sound.
Fjær. Fjær. Fjær.
Surprisingly, you slowed down and floated towards the water like a lone feather. The reduced speed may have rescued you from death, but it did nothing to spare you from the water's icy grasp.
You were submerged in the liquid with out much injury. The weight of the water on your clothes threatened to drag you to the bottom, but with a few powerful strokes you broke through the surface. You floundered a bit, before a large splash off to your left sent flecks of water drizzling over you.
You swam to the source of the disruption in the still water. You glared ferociously at the waterlogged journal, buoyantly resting in the water. You ripped it from the water, flexed your arm back, and prepared to catapult it. Lukas' journal spoke again. The scattered voices resounded in your head.
"You have reached your destination."
"Thank you for choosing Cursed Journal Time Travel!"
"Enjoy your stay!"
You clawed at the drenched pages, hoping to reach the table of contents. Your stomach twisted with a terrible angst at the sight of the smeared ink, blackening ,what was once, the table of contents. The journal was in no condition to send you home.
With a forlorn sigh, you released the sopping volume from your grip, allowing it to sink into the murky depths of the lake. Deprived of the prospect of returning home, you drifted on your back, pondering what would be your next course of action.
"...What's this?..." A familiar voice boomed overhead.
A firm hand tugged on the collar of your shirt and heaved you out of the water, into a wooden fishing boat. You whirled around to inspect your savior.
A blonde man with a stoic air, glared back at you. You wriggled away from his grip and scooted backwards. It wasn't his spine-tingling stare that filled you with terror, but the fact that it was a familiar one. Those soul-piercing blue eyes, strong jawline, and short blonde hair were identical to that of the silent man from the grocery store.
But, he was only one of the three...
You retreated further, planting you right into someone's arms.
"Haha. I guess girls are just drawn to me, Ber."
Ber?
You fix you eyes upon the speaker, who you were currently laying on. It was the spiky-haired man from the store. He grinned at you and winked mischievously.
Yep. It's definitely him.
Leaping off of him, you attempted to throw yourself overboard and straight into the lake, but were halted by the same firm hand clasping your collar. The stoic man dragged you back onto the damp wood of the boat and plopped you down.
He glared at you with a stern and unwavering chill. Those judging eyes did signal curiosity, however. You gripped the moist surface of your seat, or more accurately, bench.
"...What happened?..." The stoic man asked, never breaking eye contact.
So, he can talk...
His steely demeanor coaxed the answer from your lips. The day's traumatic events came pouring out in one long speech. You told the tale up until the part where you woke up in a strange house. The two men listened intently, with great intrigue written on their faces.
The spiky-haired man was the first to break the flow of the story. He sprang up from his seat and put his hands on his hips, as if he was ready for action.
"Hey! You never told us who kidnapped you! We can find them and make them pay!"
You stiffened at the blatant irony and waved the question off.
"It doesn't matter..."
"Really! We can help!"
"No, that's fine."
"But-"
The stoic man halted the bombardment of inquiries with a swift hand on the spiky-haired man's chest.
"...Let her be..."
The spiky-haired man slowly reclaimed his place on the bench. The stoic one placed his icy gaze back onto you. You squirmed and shivered from the unnerving countenance he boasted.
"...Cold?..." He asked.
You never had a chance to respond, thanks to a certain spiky-haired spaz.
"We need to get her warmed up! Right, Ber?" The spiky-haired man suggested.
The stoic man inspected your soaked clothing and grunted in what seemed like approval.
"Yeah! You know how much Lukas loves visitors!"
Lukas? Could it really be?...
You glanced over at the stoic man. His normally dull eyes were illuminated by a shimmer of worry.
The two men brandished their timber oars and sliced through the water with precise strokes. You spied the silt laden shore from afar. The beach was constructed on a bed of pebbles and garnished with luscious ferns and flowers. The foliage became denser as the beach extended, eventually transfiguring into a mysterious forest. A decently-sized cabin stood proud in the shadow of the woodlands. It didn't seem out of place in the tranquil scenery. It could have been planted by nature herself, and no one would be the wiser.
You approached the rocks swiftly and cruised to a smooth stop. You commanded your wobbly legs to support you, as you rose.
"...Here..."
The stoic man offered his firm hand to you. You reluctantly accepted it and hopped from the boat, onto the calm slate shore. The tread of slate and sand crunched and crackled under the three sets of shoes, as you and the two men headed towards the spruce cabin. Slowing your pace, you hesitantly noted the detailed features of the humble abode.
The rustic residence was defined by its decently-sized stature. The structure was a sturdy and ever loyal build. It was apparent that this home had braved many unrelenting winters and thousands of hours languishing under the beating sun. Despite its veteran status, it maintained a quality of charm to it. It was a satisfactory two stories, equipped with a plethora of diamond windows, two thick wooden doors on the face and back of the cabin, and a cleared field most likely used for agricultural exploits.
"Hey, you don't have to be shy!" The spiky-haired man called from the front door. He cast you a hurried wave and bounded into the entrance.
Tentatively, you dragged your feet across the ground, disturbing the powdery grains of sand sifting below in your wake. The sand formed miniature clouds that eagerly attempted to tag along behind your feet. You plodded over to the cabin and twisted the carved handle. You sighed and entered the cabin.
Maybe I could work this out...
