Chapter 28 Strange things happening
Glorifrir's view
After Gee left, it seemed that the fae suffered one tragedy after another. Nothing like this had ever occurred in the entire history of the Fae's creation that I could find.
"Caspian," I asked on one of the few times he had decided to come to the Dwarven burrow, he had been coming more since Garvan's death, but he never stayed long.
"Yes, Glory?" Caspian replied, somewhat distracted by the book he was currently reading in the library we had retired to since SueAnne was sleeping. She was not as well with this pregnancy as she had been with her earlier ones. I wondered if it was because the baby coming was fully human.
It was an unusual baby from the start; most fae/human mixes resulted in fae babies. Well, if I am being honest here, ALL fae/human babies were fae, this is the first instance of a fae baby being human, and SueAnne had become fully fae after Gee had visited her.
I wondered about its future, but Caspian brought me back from my thoughts, "Glory? You wanted to ask me something?"
"Ah yes, sorry, my thoughts went elsewhere for a moment," I apologised, "I was wondering if you had heard or read of anything happening like the tragedies that have been occurring lately?"
"You mean like the dragon, which we thought was a mountain range framing the outlands moving and disappearing into the watering hole where the outland drow council had convened, and destroying half the outlands with flooding from the sea reclaiming the land that the dragon had been lying on preventing it from flooding, and destroying that portal completely, and the land around is now a toxic mess?"
I nodded; I meant precisely that. I mean, no one would have thought those red mountains were a dragon sleeping since it was covered in rocks and trees.
"No, I have not. I would never have expected a dragon to be a mountain range either," he said before adding, "So, it turns out Jezebel was not the last dragon... do you think she would still be with Tannin if she had known?"
"I do not know; she had control of Tannin; even when he was young, he seemed enthralled by her, doing everything she asked of him. Why would she change that for a dragon she did not know? Also, Gee said that they were meant to be together for something in the human world..."
"Don't talk to me about Gee. I want nothing to do with him!" Caspian snapped at me suddenly.
"But Caspian..." I tried to mollify him, but I did not understand his hatred of Gee anymore, especially after meeting him.
"Don't," he warned me, "Don't...It was enough that DebraLee hated him for me, but now he has taken Garvan from me, too; I can not forgive him."
"It was Garvan's choice, Caspian," I said, exasperated for once, "Gee made it clear to serve the God of God,s and him it was our choice. Garvan knew the price."
"Yeah, well, I still hold Gee accountable. Now leave me alone," and Caspian turned his back on me as he rubbed his temple with his free hand; the other was still holding the book he was reading.
A scream ran through the burrow then; Caspian and I looked at each other in alarm, "SueAnn!" and we ran out of the library and to the bedroom where SueAnne was supposed to be sleeping, meeting an anxious Kell on the way.
We all arrived to find Sue's waters had broken, making a mess on the floor. When she saw us, she said, "Get the midwife." and waddled into the bathroom, assumably to clean herself up in the shower.
Caspian disappeared to do just that, using his portal magic to get the best midwife in the fae for Sue.
Three hours after the midwife arrived, a beautiful baby boy was born to Garvan. It looked just like him, except he was clearly human.
"UGggh, human," the midwife exclaimed, "How is this even possible? Did you not say this child was Prince Garvan's?"
"It is," I said, "The God of Gods deemed that this baby be human so it would not go Unseelie."
"What business it of his what happens here? It is Aine's or Mab's domain, not his," the midwife snorted, "Anyway, I am off; good luck finding a fae willing to nurse this one." and she walked out the door, never to be seen again. We had to use another midwife after that.
I did not think it be a problem finding a surrogate mother to nurse Garvan's child, and Sue wanted to breast feed the child herself, however, it was not meant to be, she fell extremely ill making it impossible for her to breastfeed. Strangely it was Kell's great-great-aunt, Kai's sister, who ended up breastfeeding the child, she had just had a foal to her fae partner and being a kelpie prefered to feed her own child rather than allowing others to feed it for her.
Kai's sister had to alternate forms between the two babies to feed them in the form that seemed best. Daniel seemed to be happy helping looking after his grandchild, the number of greats depending on whether you looked at the mothers side or the fathers side.
