Chapter 25 Garvan's death and burial

Garvan did not last much longer, his breaths became more ragged and rough with each hour, until finally they ceased. In that time, Kell and I said our "Goodbye's" quickly and left the cave for Sue and Caspian.

Kell and I busied ourselves by digging a body sized hole near the tree. We thought it a good spot, easy to identify, and if Garvan had a spirit like Gee said he could look out over the view from time to time when he visited his body.

I then sung into being a head plate or funeral stone as it were. It was the first time using my magic this way since DebraLee's death. For some reason, I did not feel as sad about Garvan dying as I did with DebraLee dying. Perhaps it was because there was life for Garvan after death and DebraLee just ceased to be. I do not know, but I did know I was tempted to follow the God of Gods for that reason alone.

I then sung the burial hole and waited. I was sitting pondering when the vines from the cave suddenly moved the body to the waiting hole, as if they knew what to do. Some of the vines shrouded him like a burial cloth, leaving his face for us to say our Goodbyes too. Caspian and Sue came out and said goodbye.

As the vines covered his face and swept the dirt into the hole to cover him, Caspian looked as if he had aged. "Are you ok Caspian?" I asked him, concerned by how his spun gold hair had turned grey in the short time he had been in the cave.

"No," he said, "It won't be much longer till I am gone myself," he smiled wryily, "It turns out my heart could not bear the death of another loved one. I will remain until Sue dies and then it is time for me to go. My body has begun its aging process."

"I see," I nodded, "It just seems faster than usual."

"Because it probably is, you know I am only alive now due to Sylvan's life force being given to me, and with Garvans death it seemed to disapate by half. I need to ensure my son is ready to take over as soon as I can. Are you guys alright to find your own way home?"

Sue, Kell and I nodded. Somehow I knew it would be awhile before the rest of us would go. Each of us needed to greive in our own way. Caspian's was to run away and work. He had done this when both Lee and Sylvan died too, so it did not surprise me when he left to work. It was like he was burying his pain in work.

After Caspian left, Sue noticed the marker, "Thanks Glory for the marker." she paused looking at it, "Glory, can you bury us here if you are alive when we die?"

"No, I cannot," I replied then, "I won't be alive if what Gee says is true. But I will change it now so the rest of us can be buried here, all you have to do then is put the end date on somehow."

"I would like that," Sue said, "But when did Gee say you would die?"

"He said he would take me quickly and silently the day I accept him," I said to her, "He also said to tell you this so you were not surprised nor upset when I go."

"When did he say you would accept him?" Sue asked.

"The day the fae starts dying," I replied, "He said something strange to Jezebel when he left. It was quite strange, but she seemed to know what he was saying."

"What was it?" Sue asked, tilting her head in curiousity, her grief temporarily forgotten.

"The time of our presence here is at an end, there is no need for it anymore," I repeated what Gee had said.

"It does sound strange, but I believe it will make sense one day, the God of God's prophecies are never clear," Sue mused,

As she pondered, I sung the corrections into the stone.

"Woah, I never knew you could do that!" both Kell and Sue gasped.

"I did it to make it, how did you think I did it?" I asked them.

"I do not know," Sue admitted as Kell thought.

"What she said," Kell agreed with Sue.

"Well, now you do know a bit more," I replied and my stomach growled in hunger earning a laugh from Sue and Kell, "Is there food we can eat?" I wondered as I had not thought to bring any with me. I had bought a few clothes to wear, and I did not know why I had even done that, but it was good I did considering the three of us stayed there, remembering Garvan and his almost obsession with Sue.

Sue's face fell, "I am sorry, Garvan had been taking care of that and the past 3 days I have only been eating what he had provided earlier. If we are staying, we will have to tend the vegetable garden and go hunting."

I nodded to Kell, "Don't worry Sue, we'll sort it out." And we did, although we did not go hunting, we tended the vegetables and there was more than enough for the meals that day and the next. Kell and I vowed to go hunting the day after to stock up the supplies, allowing us to stay for longer as we grieved. Kell and I not so much, but Sue needed that time.
