Chapter 16 Garvan's story continued
I kept the pace Kell had shown me we could run at and we ended up at my grandparents place a lot earlier than I had expected us to be. I notified Kalavan and Rachel of our arrival and they were outside waiting for us expectantly. "Garvan! Welcome! What are you doing here?" Grandad asked me curious as to my visit - I had hung up on him before telling him why I was visiting.
"Introducing these two to the family." I said waving my hand at Kell and Sue as I rode up to them. I then jumped down and gave them a hug, I was glad to see my grandparents.
Sue jumped down off Kell and Kell transformed back into a human.
"Grandma and Grandpa," I stepped back from my hug so they could see the new couple, and I introduced them, "This is Kell and Sue-Anne Torbrok. Kell and Sue this is Grandpa Kalavan and Grandma Rachel, their son should be around here somewhere..."
"Evan?" Grandma Rachel questioned me, "Oh he left to go back to the Dwarven mound to see Elizabeth. You won't see him while you are here." She looked at Sue and Kell then and asked, "So you are Torboks?"
They nodded.
"By marriage or birth?"
"Both," Kell replied.
"How long have you been married?"
"By which law?" Kell asked.
Rachel smiled, "Well, I can see this will take a while, how about you come in and rest and I will make everyone a cup of tea."
"Do you by chance have a coffee?" Sue asked. Huh, I guess she does not like tea.
"I would rather water," added Kell.
"Coffee and water it is," nodded Grandma Rachel as she hurried off to arrange the afternoon tea.
We went then to the tent that they were living in.
Grandpa Kalavan spoke to Sue, "This is one of the more fixed shanty towns. We could make it permanent, but it defeats the purpose of the nomadic life. Occasionally we do still have to up and move but this is one of our more permanent sites a bit like the one where Garvan was. But where Garvan was, was the governance site where people go to get their issues solved. Thus the fixed building."
Sue and Kell were clinging to each other, as if afraid, but they had nothing to be afraid of. I was tempted to sit next to Sue but I ultimately decided that if I did it would detriment my case later, so I sat by myself in a chair nearby.
Grandma Rachel returned with the tea, coffee, water, milk, sugar and honey and some fae biscuits and fruit. She served us all according to our wishes then sat down herself and our conversation then continued basically talking about how and when Sue and Kell were married. It turned out they were married twice, once by fae law and once by human law. They were married by human law in order to prevent Sue's rape. I could not help but feel indignant on her behalf.
I was slightly relieved to hear that nothing had happened between Kell and her yet, but I knew it was only a matter of time before it would happen. I just wished that I would be recognised as a possible suitor to her. I mean, it was possible, the red lady showed it. I had not seen any tattoo confirming my suspicions on Kell being a fellow husband, but I also noticed that he was very careful to remain dressed around me. I wondered at that.
The conversation moved on to what happened to my mother and father, they disappeared about 200 years ago, about the same time as the 3 old fae were found in the lake I settled near. I wondered if perhaps the dead people were my mother and her remaining husbands. It was rumoured that they were holding a jar when they were found. All of them had peaceful, happy looks on their faces, as if they had been welcomed home somewhere.
The reason I remembered the story was because it was unusual for a fae to look that way. Normally it was sad as it was as if their life had just disappeared, nothing to go too, but these fae were different. I had decided to settle there as the story intrigued me, for some reason I felt a connection to the 3 fae and I tended the place where they were buried. I did not say anything though, I held my suspicion to my chest.
The conversation moved on to the various histories earth and fae. I stayed out of the conversation until Sue asked, "Will we get to meet them?"
"Yes!" I said, "That is the point of this trip."
Sue then asked, "I am curious how long ago did DebraLee die?"
"About 100 years ago now," Kalavan said, "the fae has not really been the same since. It was if when she died all the dragon's disappeared too. There was always one about somewhere causing mischief, but now there seems to be none. It's a bit concerning really."
I did not know that, it seems that I still had a lot to learn about the fae, I thought I knew everything, but clearly I was still lacking. I went that night after Kell and Sue retired to apply to return to the dwarven mound that I had been banned from. I had been banned as that was where AheLee spent the majority of her time.
Grandpa Kalavan put in his recommendation that I be allowed but even that was not enough. I gave up and went to bed, this was not something that could be sorted tired and cranky. We still left the next day to go towards the dwarven mound. I planned to finish my application at the Portal where my mother came through. It was the last place I was allowed to freely go, after that I needed permission.
I could only trust that my intuition was correct.
The next few days journey was filled with getting to know each other, I told her of my troubles and how I felt when Coran was with me as a child. I also told her a little about my love for AheLee and how she was raised the Priestess of Aine by DebraLee. She asked me how I loved AheLee, and that was something I could not bring myself to tell her. I had seen Kell's arm one morning when he was hurriedly dressing, and I knew that Sue and Kell were promised to me by Aine.
I felt dejected, how could I tell the one promised me how wrong I had been? I had not only been wrong with AheLee, but every night for 5 years I had been wrong. Admittedly, it turned out I was screwing the same 5 fae girls, but still it was 6 more than the girl deserved. This included AheLee, the love of my life until I had met Sue.
I must not have been very good company that night as Sue and Kell both turned in early, leaving me to stew on what I needed to do to be able to go to the dwarven mound with them.
The next day, we arrived at the watering hole where we would be staying a few days. I discovered Evan was there, so I introduced them and asked him to show them around while I applied for my pass to go with Sue and Kell. I asked him to show them the royal watering hole as they were part of our family and he agreed.
Evan took them up to the hole and left them there. I found him later and asked where they were and he told me. I, on hearing how affectionate they had become, decided to leave them be. They had been gone half the day when I decided to go looking for them. I thought they would have returned by now, but they had not.
I found them about halfway back to camp. Sue was carrying a big aqua coloured egg, and for some reason I felt a charm trying to attach itself to me. I was use to dispelling charms as the women I had been sleeping with regularly tried to charm me. I was not into being charmed, but I felt relief on seeing the pair so I said, "Oh good, you weren't lost."
"Do you know what type of egg this is Garvan?" Sue asked looking at me for advice.
I did not know, but I felt either my father or Glorifrir would know, so I replied, "No I do not, the only person I know who might is Glorifrir the Sage. Originally I would have said Tyvan but he is too busy for research now. I will introduce you when we get to the dwarven mound."
"Thanks Garvan," Sue was suddenly extremely close to me and she ran her hand suggestively down my arm. I was sure then, Sue was charmed by the egg. For what reason I did not know, but I thought to warn Kell of my suspicions, "Kell, I think Sue has been charmed. Be careful with her ok?"
Sue must of overheard me warning Kell as she looked livid, and would not meet my eyes for about half an hour. When she did start looking again, she had a hunger in her eyes, one I knew well, and one I did not want like this, but I stayed anyway. Sue must have realised something in herself as she went to bed early not long after Kell did.
That night I knew she had lost her virginity to Kell. I was happy for them both, but also sad as I knew I had along way to go before I would be allowed her that way, especially since she was charmed. I had other problems to worry about, and that was convincing the bureaucrats that I was safe to go to the dwarven mound. It took me a week, a very long week of containing my anger and frustration at the process as I was blocked at almost every turn, but eventually I convinced them that I was going for Sue and Kell's sake as they were my family from the human world and I was the only one they knew and trusted at this point.
At the end of the week, I in desperation asked Sue and Kell for help, and they willingly agreed to see the bureaucrats. We went before them and the man asked them, "Garvan here is requesting to go with you to introduce you to his family. Is this so?"
"Yes your honor, but you are missing a small point here. It is our family too."
"I see," the man said, "Do you know why Garvan got banished to the outlands?"
"No, nor does it matter," Sue said wholeheartedly, "Garvan from what I can tell is on the whole a honorable gentleman. While he has been showing us around, he has not from what I can tell, slept with anyone or drunk anything. I do not know if that means anything to you. But when we arrived we were told that Garvan was a drunk who screwed any female who went near him. He has not done this while we have been with him."
"So you give your word he has not been drunk and disorderly during the time you have been with him?"
"He has not."
"Garvan, if we give you clearance, will you promise to stay away from the priestess of Aine?"
"I cannot, but I can promise I will not touch her in anyway. Ahelee is their family too and I have to introduce her to them. Apart from that introduction, you have my word I will stay away." Garvan said seriously.
"How can we be sure?"
Kell spoke up then, "Excuse me can my wife leave the room for a moment?"
The person nodded and Sue was removed from the proceedings.
To my surprise Kell talked of the schwing Sue and I felt toward each other, one that apparently everyone who was around us could feel when it happened. He also pointed out the implications of that even though he did not have to nor want to, but he did anyway. I was grateful for his thoughtfulness and promised myself I would not betray Sue or him, no matter the charm the egg was exuding.
I was given the paperwork clearing me for travel then. Kell took me aside just afterwards and asked if I knew of how the fae dealt with periods as Sue was due, he could smell the blood about to start. I nodded, between my sisters and AheLee, I knew the product she would need, so I went and got it. I then found Sue and explained to her on how to use it, she seemed a little put out at first until I explained that Kell had asked me to get it for her.
We left the next day and the trip was miserable. I could tell Sue was suffering from the charm. Kell was doing what he could, but for some reason I could tell the charm was unaffected by him. I suspected the charm wanted to cause chaos, which meant someone other than Kell was needed. As I was the only other person around Sue, the thing in the egg kept trying to charm me into making love to her. I blocked it with everything I had in me. I wanted a real relationship, not one formed by chaos.
I stayed in the family rooms at the mound, the ones Susan had owned. Kell and Sue stayed with me there. I took the pair around introducing them to the various family members that were here. It was a bit difficult as their work would get in the way. We had been at it about a week when Sue suddenly disappeared with the egg.
I knew immediately that she had gone to search for Glorifrir as he was all she had ever talked about when we got back from visiting at night. She wanted to see him to find out about the egg, as he was considered the wisest of the fae now, she figured that he would know about it. For some reason I was reluctant to take her, I felt it would be a bad idea for them to meet so I had been putting it off, hoping that I could make it so they could never meet, but it was not meant to be.
When we found she had gone, I convinced Kell that she was charmed and I explained why. It panicked him a little bit but to his credit he tackled the immediate problem in front of him - finding Sue. We went then to the most likely place she would head - the library. Upon questioning the staff we found that a girl, matching her description, had met with Glorifrir and they had run off to his room after, what was reported to be, a steamy kiss.
"I do not know what came over Glorifrir the Sage," the pretty brown haired, brown eyed librarian with glasses, said, "he is not the sort of person to act like that. If anything he stays well away from women. It was like he was charmed by something. The girl was like that too."
"Damn it!" Kell and I swore, "Lets hope we are not too late!"
"Excuse me miss, is Glorifrir's rooms still where they were 5 years ago?" I asked the woman, hoping against hope that they were or we would have a further problem.
"Why? Yes they are," the woman answered to my relief.
"Thank you!" I said as I took Kell's hand and dragged him out of the library, heading straight for Glorifrir's rooms.
I knocked, and upon getting no response tried the door. "Glorifrir normally leaves it unlocked." I explained to Kell. Finding it locked, I really started to worry.
"I got to get in there, I don't want my wife married to another man!" Kell said to me, I could understand his sentiments.
"I get it, but buddy, you know I want her too, but I will wait for you to die or something," I promised Kell in the moment.
"Don't go forswearing yourself," Kell warned me, "I am well aware of fae law, I just hoped that it would never effect us. In the meantime, let's get in here."
"Ok, you run that door and I will run this one," I suggested a basic plan and we followed it, breaking the doors open and our eyes met with a scene we were hoping to avoid. Glorifrir and Sue naked. Glorifrir covered Sue almost immediately, too soon for my liking though, as I wanted to see what the Goddess had said was mine.
Kell ran over and picked Glory by his armbands yelling, "What do you think you are doing to my wife?"
"You mean our wife," Glorifrir corrected him quietly, at his gentle words it was like a knife had gone through us both, we were too late. Glorifrir chose to explain to us, "Nothing I wanted to do, nor she wanted to do. We were both charmed into it. I had no defenses up when I ran into her and when I touched the Dragon's egg I lost all reason. Surely you noticed her unnatural need for sex?"
"Our wife?" Kell sat down on the bed beside the still very naked Glorifrir, totally dejected by his quiet words. I just stood there like a stunned mullet observing.
"Yes, sorry, according to the dragon," Glory indicated to the dragon, "dragon's were to be born in sin and their partners are conceived in that moment. Sue is pregnant with my child. Neither of us were aware of this until the dragon said. After we made love we fell asleep and woke up shocked at each other. Neither of us wanted what we just did. But you know by fae law we are married now."
"I know," Kell replied.
"Uncle," I said, finally noticing the tattoo on his left hip. I did not remember it ever being there before today.
"Yes?"
"Your tattoo, how long have you had that?" I asked.
"About 5 minutes, it appeared after we woke up and the dragon talked to us," Glorifrir said, "Why?"
"So it is true then, you are to be my wife too," I said looking at Sue.
"What? How do you get that?" Glorifrir asked confused.
"When Aine took Ahelee from me and our situation was described as inappropriate..."
"Yes?"
"I was given this tattoo and told that I would find my wife with her husbands by this tattoo. The husbands all had this tattoo on them. I know Kell has it on his arm, although he has done his best to hide it, but your is clear as day on your thigh. Uncle, when are you getting dressed?"
"Oh sorry, I forgot," and Glorifrir got up and got dressed passing Sue her clothes so that she could get dressed too. I could see Kell struggling with what had happened. It was clear we all needed to talk and with out Sue present.
The next thing I knew, the baby dragon flew over and landed on Sue's shoulder. "I am going, See you!" she said and left us there looking at each other stupidly. I wondered how Sue could know that we all needed to talk, so we let her go.
"I am sorry," Glorifrir said to Kell kindly. "I am sure you did not want to share your wife with anyone. I know I did not want to my first wife."
"You are right, I did not want to share her. We only just got together too, I could not transform in the human world and she did not want me straight away when we came here. I think it was a bit of a shock to her. And then there is Garvan." Kell looked at me.
"What about me?" I was surprised at my inclusion.
"Aine reckons you are to be Sue's husband too. Something neither of us wanted, but clearly it will happen sometime. How am I supposed to compete with what a God says, since I clearly had no control on a dragon's charm. I could not even prevent that..." Kell's eyes welled up with tears.
"I could not either," Glorifrir spoke then, "I had no desire to be married again, and now I am I am afraid."
"Why uncle?" I asked.
"I do not know if you remember Garvan, but I suffered from Qi burning with my first wife. It was horrendous for me whenever she was away from me. I do not want to suffer that again, and I am scared that it will happen again. I won't know for a few days." Glorifrir looked really scared.
"Kelpies suffer from it too, how come you are not suffering?" Glorifrir asked looking at Kell, "She has gone now, and judging the amount of time you have been together, you should be feeling the effects by her going by now."
Kell shrugged, "I do not know, maybe it was the blessing the God of Gods gave Kai. I do not know, all I do know is none of my immediate family have ever suffered from it. Although we heard about it from the other Eriskay Ponies."
"You serve this God of Gods?" Glorifrir wondered.
"Of all the Gods I do, although the world in which I was raised is very atheistic as in they do not believe in God at all, but call on him whenever something goes wrong. It is a very confusing society." Kell looked at me then, "So Garvan, what are your plans with my, no, our wife? I know Aine has promised her to you, but neither Sue or I follow her."
"I do not know," I sat down on one of the chairs nearby, "How are you two going to deal with the fact that you both are married to the same girl, regardless of your beliefs."
Kell did not answer, Uncle did, "Well, the first thing we should do is hold a banquet and introduce Sue to all the family."
"But I have been doing that this past week!" I objected.
"And I bet her eyes glazed over and she seemed distracted," Glorifrir countered me, some how knowing what Sue had been doing this past week.
"Ah, yes," I agreed.
"Trust me, it is more important for the family to meet her in one hit, then she meet them. At least then they can look after her and she can pick the families faces amongst the crowd should she need it. Like now, she has gone, but is she safe?" Glorifrir pointed out that Sue had gone, and despite knowing her less than an hour showed he understood her well.
"I guess we better go look for her and tell her about the banquet," Kell agreed to Uncle's proposal. It was then we discovered she had gone.
For two days we panicked. Looking high and low for her. Glorifrir, Kell and I met up and was about to discuss what else we could do to search for her, she could not have gone far when Sue arrived. All of us were so relieved we just ran and hugged her, "Oh thank God!" we all said, "You are safe!"
"Why wouldn't I be safe, sillies?" she asked of us, "My drow blood is singing through my veins here. I am not useless."
"Where did you go?" Kell asked her, "Surely not the drow deep?"
"No, I went to a high place, I thought you would have known that Kell," she rebuked Kell.
"It was the first place I checked, but you were not there," he objected.
"It was because a kind gentlemen sent me somewhere safe for 2 days so I could think. He was worried I might be mugged or something where I had settled," she explained.
"So that is why I could not find you!" Glorifrir exclaimed.
"Who are you again?" Sue asked him, unintentionally hurting uncle.
"Your other husband," he said with a crestfallen look, "the father of your child."
"I did not ask for this child, but," she continued, "I will love it and you as I am supposed too. I have little choice. What's done is done."
"What about what AIne said?" I asked, wondering what she had come up with.
"That I am still in no position to deal with. Sorry Garvan," Sue apologised to me, "I may have come to terms with 2 husbands, but I am just not ready for 3."
"Sue," Glorifrir started.
"Yes?"
"Is it ok with you if I hold a banquet tomorrow to introduce you to the family as my new wife?" and seeing her darkening look hurried on to explain, "You see I think they need to know you even if you do not know them. They can look out for you and help you if you are in trouble. Kell can't be there for you all the time, and I know I certainly can't."
Sue thought about it and nodded, "Ok, so long as I am not expected to know everyone's name."
"You do not, but I am sure you will remember their faces, we are an attractive bunch, if I do say so myself!" Glorifrir smiled, "In the meantime, you can pick out a dress to wear for the occasion. Going by how long my other wife took to choose clothes - I think you will need it. But as it is late now, you can do it tomorrow. Lets go get some dinner!"
We went then and had dinner together before retiring for the night.
The next day Uncle and I were busy preparing for the banquet. I wrote a lot of the invitations and uncle sent them. Uncle got caught up in some problems and asked me to pick up Kell and Sue that night and take them to the banquet, so I did. I apologized to them and we walked towards the banquet hall.
As we were heading to the banquet hall Uncle Caspian walked towards us, I could not help but admire the older man's beauty as he did so. I knew something was up when he magicked her out of Kell's arms and into his. Kell and I could only watch helplessly as they danced in the air, "Hello again beautiful, I take it you were going to this family event too?" Caspian asked and Sue nodded to his question, "I am sorry beautiful, but I am going to have to meet you another day."
Caspian kissed Sue and looked at me, "Give Glory my apologies, I was notified of a tragedy needing my attention. As much as I would love to stay I cannot."
I nodded as Uncle twirled Sue back into Kell's arms warning him, "You're a lucky man. Hold onto her, or I just might steal her from you." He left then, with a wink, in a shower of light.
"Who was that?" Sue asked me somewhat dazed by the situation.
"You do not know who that was?" I asked her surprised that she did not know, "even though he kissed you and seemed awfully familiar with you? I have not seen him be like that with anyone but his wife."
"He is married?" Sue asked sounding disappointed.
"He was," I nodded, "She is dead now."
"Oh that is so sad," Sue said, looking relieved, "But you still have not told me who he is."
"That is King Caspian, King of the fairy courts," I replied before continuing, "His wife was DebraLee."
"DebraLee, why does that name sound familiar?" Sue wondered.
"Perhaps because she was Glorifrir's wife too," I suggested.
Sue looked a bit torn and dejected then. Kell said in effort to comfort the girl, "Sue, I underestimated the pull of the fae on humans or in your case, mostly humans. It is ok for you to have more than me. Just be honest with yourself ok?"
Sue nodded as if understanding. I was not so sure she did know though. I honestly was feeling jealous of Caspian as he seemed to elicit more feeling out of her than I did, and I was the one promised to her.
Life after the banquet ended up being fairly routine. I was allowed to stay as they could see that my attention was on Sue now, not AheLee. I did my best to integrate myself into her family by making myself indispensable in doing what I could for her. Not that it got me much apart from a "Thanks Garvan, I do not know what I would do with out you."
I could not help but be jealous of Glorifrir and I wished that I had not resisted the dragon's charms. When I talked to Kell about it all he said was, "Perhaps this was meant to be, maybe something good will come out of this. I do not know. Even though Sue and I were raised to be in a monogamous relationship, I can see the need in her for Glory each month at the same time. I have to wonder if you should not also be included, and if you were how would we. I still do not like sharing her you know."
"I know," I said and I thought about how often I would want her. I decided I would really like once a month with her like uncle did, but I knew Kell would not be able to handle this, so I decided at least once a year for a week. I wondered what I would do in the meantime as I knew I did like sex, and this going without was taking its toll on me physically and mentally. I also knew I could not betray Sue, Kell or uncle. So, what to do.
The baby was born and I was just as much a proud father as Kell was, even though the child was uncles, we still felt an attachment to it. We all took turns in nursing the the baby and dragon. The dragon, Jezebel, honestly was a nuisance but one does not train dragons, they just are a law unto themselves.
