Chapter 12 Preparing for the banquet

Kell's view

Garvan and I noticed that Sue was missing and that she had taken the egg with her. Both of us panicked then as both of us by this time was finally convinced that she was being charmed into wanting sex by that egg. Garvan, to his credit, refused to take Sue that way. He wanted her for herself in her right mind. He knew it was an impossibility but he hoped anyway for her to want him.

So, we went to the most likely place she would head - the library. Upon questioning the staff we found that she had met with Glorifrir and they had run off to his room after a what was reported to be a steamy kiss.

"I do not know what came over Glorifrir the Sage," the pretty brown haired, brown eyed librarian with glasses, said, "he is not the sort of person to act like that. If anything he stays well away from women. It was like he was charmed by something. The girl was like that too."

"Damn it!" Garvan and I swore, "Lets hope we are not too late!"

"Excuse me miss, is Glorifrir's rooms still where they were?" Garvan asked the woman.

"Why yes they are," the woman said pushing up her glasses on her nose.

"Thank you!" said Garvan as he grabbed my hand and dragged me out of the library and through a maze of corridors till he came across a pair of heavily detailed door.

He knocked, and upon getting no response tried the door. "Glorifrir normally leaves it unlocked." he explained as he tried it. Upon finding it locked we started to worry.

"I got to get in there, I don't want my wife married to another man!" I said to Garvan.

"I get it, but buddy you know I want her too, but I will wait for you to die or something," he promised me in the moment.

"Don't go forswearing yourself," I commented, "I am well aware of fae law, I just hoped that it would never effect us. In the meantime, let's get in here."

"Ok, you run that door and I will run this one," Garvan spelt out a basic plan and we followed it, breaking the doors open and our eyes met with a scene we were hoping to avoid. Glorifrir and Sue naked. Glorifrir covered Sue almost immediately but not soon enough for my liking.

I ran over angrily and I grabbed Glory by his armbands and was about to shake him. "What do you think you are doing to my wife?"

"You mean our wife," Glorifrir corrected me quietly, at his gentle words it was like a knife had gone through me, I was too late. Glorifrir continued on, "Nothing I wanted to do, nor she wanted to do. We were both charmed into it. I had no defenses up when I ran into her and when I touched the Dragon's egg I lost all reason. Surely you noticed her unnatural need for sex?"

"Our wife?" I sat down on the bed beside the still very naked Glorifrir, totally dejected by his quiet words.

"Yes, sorry, according to the dragon," Glory indicated to the dragon, "dragon's were to be born in sin and their partners are conceived in that moment. Sue is pregnant with my child. Neither of us were aware of this until the dragon said. After we made love we fell asleep and woke up shocked at each other. Neither of us wanted what we just did. But you know by fae law we are married now."

"I know," I replied.

"Uncle," Garvan said.

"Yes?"

"Your tattoo, how long have you had that?" I looked at him then and spied the tattoo on his left hip.

"About 5 minutes, it appeared after we woke up and the dragon talked to us," Glorifrir said, clueless to Garvan's situation. "Why?"

"So it is true then, you are to be my wife too," Garvan said looking at Sue.

"What? How do you get that?" Glorifrir asked confused.

"When Aine took Ahelee from me and our situation was described as inappropriate..."

"Yes?"

"I was given this tattoo and told that I would find my wife with her husbands by this tattoo. The husbands all had this tattoo on them. I know Kell has it on his arm, although he has done his best to hide it, but your is clear as day on your thigh. Uncle, when are you getting dressed?"

"Oh sorry, I forgot," and Glorifrir got up and got dressed I was relieved at that as it was off-putting seeing such a handsome man undressed. As he dressed he passed Sue's clothes to her so she could get dressed too. I was just in shock, not only had my wife gained another husband, she was pregnant to him. A feat I had not managed in the week we had been going at it. Perhaps we were not as compatible as I had hoped, perhaps this Glorifrir was meant to give her children and I just be her toyboy.

The next thing I knew, the baby dragon flew over and landed on Sue's shoulder. "I am going, See you!" she said and left us there looking at each other stupidly.

I did not think much of it at the time as it was clear we men needed to talk.

"I am sorry," Glorifrir said to me again, looking at me kindly. "I am sure you did not want to share your wife with anyone. I know I did not want to my first wife."

"You are right, I did not want to share her. We only just got together too, I could not transform in the human world and she did not want me straight away when we came here. I think it was a bit of a shock to her. And then there is Garvan." I looked at Garvan.

"What about me?" Garvan looked surprised and innocent.

"Aine reckons you are to be Sue's husband too. Something neither of us wanted, but clearly it will happen sometime. How am I supposed to compete with what a God says, since I clearly had no control on a dragon's charm. I could not even prevent that..." I felt tears well up in my eyes.

"I could not either," Glorifrir spoke then, "I had no desire to be married again, and now I am I am afraid."

"Why uncle?" Garvan asked him.

"I do not know if you remember Garvan, but I suffered from Qi burning with my first wife. It was horrendous for me whenever she was away from me. I do not want to suffer that again, and I am scared that it will happen again. I won't know for a few days." Glorifrir looked really scared.

"Kelpies suffer from it too, how come you are not suffering?" Glorifrir asked looking at me, "She has gone now, and judging the amount of time you have been together, you should be feeling the effects by her going by now."

I shrugged, "I do not know, maybe it was the blessing the God of Gods gave Kai. I do not know, all I do know is none of my immediate family have ever suffered from it. Although we heard about it from the other Eriskay Ponies."

"You serve this God of Gods?" Glorifrir asked me curiously.

"Of all the Gods I do, although the world in which I was raised is very atheistic as in they do not believe in God at all, but call on him whenever something goes wrong. It is a very confusing society." I looked at Garvan then, "So Garvan, what are your plans with my, no, our wife? I know Aine has promised her to you, but neither Sue or I follow her."

"I do not know," Garvan sat on one of Glorifrir's chairs, "How are you two going to deal with the fact that you both are married to the same girl, regardless of your beliefs."

His words were a knife to my heart, thankfully Glorifrir answered.

"Well, the first thing we should do is hold a banquet and introduce Sue to all the family," he said reasonably.

"But I have been doing that this past week!" objected Garvan.

"And I bet her eyes glazed over and she seemed distracted," Glorifrir countered, some how knowing what Sue had been doing this past week.

"Ah, yes," Garvan agreed.

"Trust me, it is more important for the family to meet her in one hit, then she meet them. At least then they can look after her and she can pick the families faces amongst the crowd should she need it. Like now, she has gone, but is she safe?" Glorifrir pointed out that Sue had gone, and despite knowing her less than an hour showed he understood her as well as I did.

I guess it is true, once a fae sleeps with another they know them in their entirety whether or not they want too.

"I guess we better go look for her and tell her about the banquet," I reluctantly agreed to Glorifrir's proposal. It was then we discovered she had gone.

For two days we panicked. Looking high and low for her. Glorifrir, Garvan and I met up and was about to discuss what else we could do to search for her, she could not have gone far when Sue arrived. All of us were so relieved we just ran and hugged her, "Oh thank God!" we all said, "You are safe!"

"Why wouldn't I be safe, sillies?" she asked of us, "My drow blood is singing through my veins here. I am not useless."

"Where did you go?" I asked her, "Surely not the drow deep?"

"No, I went to a high place, I thought you would have known that Kell," she rebuked me.

"It was the first place I checked, but you were not there," I objected.

"It was because a kind gentlemen sent me somewhere safe for 2 days so I could think. He was worried I might be mugged or something where I had settled," she explained.

"So that is why I could not find you!" Glorifrir exclaimed.

"Who are you again?" Sue asked him, unintentionally hurting the gentle man.

"Your other husband," he said sadly, "the father of your child."

"I did not ask for this child, but," she continued seeing that Glorifrir was about to cry, "I will love it and you as I am supposed too. I have little choice. What's done is done."

"What about what AIne said?" Garvan asked, wondering what she had come up with.

"That I am still in no position to deal with. Sorry Garvan," Sue apologised to him, "I may have come to terms with 2 husbands, but I am just not ready for 3."

"Sue," Glorifrir started.

"Yes?"

"Is it ok with you if I hold a banquet tomorrow to introduce you to the family as my new wife?" and seeing her darkening look hurried on to explain, "You see I think they need to know you even if you do not know them. They can look out for you and help you if you are in trouble. Kell can't be there for you all the time, and I know I certainly can't."

Sue thought about it and nodded, "Ok, so long as I am not expected to know everyone's name."

"You do not, but I am sure you will remember their faces, we are an attractive bunch, if I do say so myself!" Glorifrir smiled, "In the meantime, you can pick out a dress to wear for the occasion. Going by how long my other wife took to choose clothes - I think you will need it. But as it is late now, you can do it tomorrow. Lets go get some dinner!"

We went then and had dinner. Sue slept beside me that night. We did not do anything as I was afraid to touch her in that way. As for Sue, she seemed content to do nothing.

Sue-Anne's view

I woke the next day to find Kell sleeping beside me. I could tell by the position he was in he was afraid to touch me in any manner. I smiled and hugged him, running my hand through his long black hair disturbing him from his sleep, "Good morning love," I chimed at him.

"Good morning!" Kell smiled sleepily at me, "how are you this morning?"

"Hungry!" as my stomach growled then, "but I was hoping for some of your loving attention."

I knew I did not really deserve his love because of what happened with Glorifrir, but I craved it none-the-less.

"Are you sure?" Kell asked me, searching my face for any sign I did not want him.

"I am sure," I responded, "I just don't want to disappoint you, ever."

"You can't do that!" he smiled at me.

"Are you sure? What about Glor..." he shushed me by placing his finger over my mouth.

"I may not get this fae way, but he is your husband too, and he is genuinely a nice dwarf. We could have been alot worse off if you had been with anyone else," and he kissed me, showing me just how much he wanted me and he forgave me.

I could not help but follow his lead and we made love before getting up and having breakfast properly.

After breakfast, Glorifrir came and took me to the royal wardrobes. There were so many choices. Some I indulged in trying just for the sake of it. I wanted to know what poofy flowery fairy dresses were like to wear. I discovered very quickly, that despite looking amazing on me, they just were not me.

I could not find anything that suited me at all. Even the annoying dragon agreed, nothing there suited me, so she flew off to find Glorifrir. Not long after Glorifrir arrived looking disconcerted.

"What is wrong?" he asked, "This dragon of yours..."

"Ours," I corrected him.

He looked disconcerted for a bit before continuing, "you are right, ours, says you can not find anything?"

"Yes," I agreed, "These are grand and all, but they are just too poofy for my tastes. I need something plainer and more refined."

Glorifrir thought then, and seemingly remembered something. "Come with me. There is another place, it us usually used for the concubines but the dresses are still very refined."

"Concubines? What do you mean by that?" I quiered.

"Women who the men sleep with, who they would like to be their wives but no child will ever result from the pairing. They are there purely for the sex with the partner," Glorifrir blushed.

"I see, have you ever had one?" I asked him.

"Sort of, I think I told you I went to the Naga and Arachne queens to get over my wife. They were sort of concubines in that regard," he explained, "But in saying that they shuffled me on as soon as they had a hutch of lamia's and spiderlings to me. I was told never to come back."

"Does this mean you are married to them?" I asked, feeling a little jealous.

"No, no-one marries those ladies, they selectively choose the partner they want to breed with and once they have they normally kill them. They were nice and let me live," Glorifrir chuckled.

We arrived at the room and I saw the perfect gown almost immediately. It was burgundy in color, with what looked like sparkles though it. It fitted me like a glove, its low cut framing my breasts perfectly and its low back showing off the skin on my back to perfection. Glory could not keep his eyes off me in that moment.

It was then he had an idea, "Stay here, I will be back." and he hurried off.

I was bored in that room, so I looked for other dresses, and I found others suitable and figured if it ever came to pass I needed something else to wear, I would use those.

Glorifrir returned about an hour later, "Sorry, it took me awhile to find, I completed them so long ago but I never knew why I had made them. I know why now." he smiled at me and showed me some exquisite jewelry. He had ruby earrings and a necklace designed to run down the back of the gown not the front, and 2 arm bands and bracelets made from gold, all intricately designed.

"You made these?" I asked not quite believing him.

"I did," he nodded, "but it was some time ago. About 500 years I think."

"They do not look that old?" I said holding them like the treasures they were.

"Put them on!" Glory begged me, so I did. "You look beautiful. I am proud that you are my wife."

I nodded, I knew Glory did not give compliments like that very much so I treasured it. I had not heard Glory speak much at all in the time I had met him.

"Looks like you are ready for tonight," Glory said, "did you want to go back to Kell's and your room?"

I nodded, "Thanks Glory."

"You're welcome," and he walked me to Kell's and my room. "I will pick you both up tonight and take you to the banqueting hall."

I nodded and watched him walk off a little bit sadly. I could not help but run after him and kiss his cheek, surprising the tiny man, "What was that for?" he asked.

"For you being you," I said to him, "You are incredibly kind and sweet. Perhaps I will come to love you as I do Kell."

He smiled at me gently, "I hope so. Provided I do not have qi burning, we dwarves do not need much, just the occasional cuddle."

"And should you have qi burning," I wondered.

"It would be a nightmare," he shuddered at the suggestion, "I become a needy wanton mess."

"So it would be better for you if you did not have it?" I surmised.

He nodded and left me, "Sorry Sue, I have things I need to chase up. I still have not gotten a hold of all the relatives you need to meet."

I looked after him for a little bit before heading into Kell carrying my garment and the jewelry that Glory had given me.

Kell wore the outfit he had thought up to the banquet. He had been offered others but he ultimately felt that the outfit he had chosen could be worn in all situations and he was wearing it. I got changed and wowed Kell with it. So much so that he wanted me before we went to the banquet.

Glory did not meet us, Garvan did, and he sent Glory's apologies. Apparently there was a family emergency that took precedence.

We were walking towards the banquet hall when the man, I met up on the hill, came towards us.

"Hello again beautiful," he said and he somehow magicked me out of Kell's arms and into his. It was like we were dancing on air, "I take it you were going to this family event too?" he commented as I nodded, "I am sorry beautiful, but I am going to have to meet you another day." He put me down after dancing in the air for a little, kissed the corner of my mouth and looked at Garvan, "Give Glory my apologies, I was notified of a tragedy needing my attention. As much as I would love to stay I cannot."

Garvan nodded as the man twirled me back into Kell's arms, "You're a lucky man. Hold onto her, or I just might steal her from you." and with that he left.

"Who was that?" I asked Garvan.

"You do not know who that was?" he asked me, "even though he kissed you and seemed awfully familiar with you? I have not seen him be like that with anyone but his wife."

"He is married?" I asked suddenly disappointed by the news, wondering why I felt that way at all.

"He was," Garvan nodded, "She is dead now."

"Oh that is so sad," I suddenly felt sorry for the man, "But you still have not told me who he is."

"That is King Caspian, King of the fairy courts," Garvan said, "His wife was DebraLee."

"DebraLee, why does that name sound familiar?" I wondered.

"Perhaps because she was Glorifrir's wife too," Garvan said shocking me to my core.

I had not expected to be attracted to another of her husbands, and yet here I was, lusting after another man. I frowned at myself then. Stop being so wanton. Kell is everything you need, stop looking to others for gratification. I grimaced then, I was being foolish. I could not deny Glory either and yet that was what I was trying to do.

Garvan and Kell must have seen my thoughts as both took my arm either side and continued walking silently with me. I think it must have killed Kell a little to admit this but he said, "Sue, I underestimated the pull of the fae on humans or in your case, mostly humans. It is ok for you to have more than me. Just be honest with yourself ok?"

I did not know what to say, so I just nodded.
