Ch. 9
I lean against the corner of the two beige walls in the living room. I had kept my hat on to prevent some of the guards from detecting what was under the hat.
Matheo's eyes wandered nervously around the room as he tried to distract himself. He would fail immediately in an interrogation. His knee tapped the floor uncontrollably and his eyes wandered back to mine every few seconds.
It was almost like he was returning home instead of me.
The large wooden doors, the entrance for every room of the house, swing open and my three other brothers enter the room in different states of disarray.
Lucien was the first one to enter with Alexandre and then Matheo following behind. Lucien was the most awake, probably since he's used to being woken up randomly in the middle of his sleep because of his job as don. He was in gray sweatpants and a white shirt like Alexandre, but he also had a gun in both of his pockets.
Matheo, on the other hand, looked like he was dragged by his ankles out of bed, literally. He was wearing a random blue hoodie and sweatpants and his dirty blond shoulder length hair that was the same color as his twin's, was tangled and sticking out in different directions.
"Mylan, why are you still up, you were the most tried out of all of us," Alexandre asks, moving out from behind Lucien at the same time Lucien asks, "What's wrong?"
Lucien still gets right to the point I see.
"He's-"
I push myself off the walk and it only takes 5 steps before Matheo quickly turns in my direction.
And Matheo still has good spatial awareness.
My other two brothers look to where Matheo's eyes stay locked and I slowly lift my hat and set it down on a nearby couch.
The reactions are all instantaneous, widening their eyes at the sight of me.
I stay still as I wait for their next reactions, but it doesn't take long before Alexandre walks over to me. He is still slightly taller than me, but he doesn't seem to mind as he pulls me into a tight hug similar to Mylan's and rests his chin on my head.
"Where have you been?" Lucien calmly asks from behind Alexandre.
I push myself out of Alexandre's grasp so I can look at Lucien better.
"I've been here and there," I say, looking Lucien in the eyes to read what he was feeling, but of course that's like trying to kick down a brick wall.
Lucien starts berating almost immediately after my answer. "Why did you run? Do you know how stupid that was?! If dad didn't fake your death and get everyone to believe it, you would be fucking dead. You hear me, dead. And now-"
I don't try to listen after that. Lucien will always be a little overprotective at times and the rest of us just learned that you have to give him a few minutes to calm down before you do anything else.
"Now that's over with, let me look at you. You actually grew an inch."
I am pulled into now Lucien's tight grasp, only this time I'm picked up an inch or two off the floor.
"God, are you trying to kill me?! I swear if you drop me Lucien.." I threaten, holding on tightly to Lucien's neck.
"Hush, baby brother, I won't drop you. God, you used to be so cute when you were younger, now you're just moody."
I hear a tiny snort come out of Mylan's mouth who is sitting next to Matheo, but I ignore it and after a few more seconds I am placed back on my feet.
I walk back to the group of couches that all my siblings have now taken a seat on.
"Why did you leave," Matheo asks suddenly, before I fully sit down. I look at him and his eyes lock hard on mine as he says the next sentence specifically to me.
"Was it that stupid party you went to with that one friend of yours?"
I almost flinch at the thought of that dreadful party, but I was able to compose myself before I gave any of my brothers a hint of what happened.
The rest of my brothers look between the two of us trying to figure out what we're talking about, but I ignore their confused glances.
"Cam, where are you going?" Matheo questions in a whisper. He clearly had been trying to sleep due to the blanket wrapped around his shoulders.
"Out with friends," I replied curtly.
"Dad said you can't go to parties till 11th grade."
"I never said I was going to a party. I am hanging out with friends."
"You're going with that one friend of yours right, what's his name?"
"Aiden."
"Yep, that's right." Matheo says, snapping his fingers. "Now, you better not make me regret not telling dad. Don't drink too much so that you make any stupid decisions, like getting a girl pregnant you hear me."
"I won't, I will tell you all about it tomorrow."
"Alright, make sure you sneak out the back door so there's a less likely chance anyone will see you."
"Thanks."
I was too excited that I missed the final words my brother said to me before I left.
"It's in the past, it doesn't matter anymore," I say, trying to push the thought to the back of my mind.
Matheo lets out a tiny chuckle while shaking his head. "I regret helping you sneak out." Matheo stands up and walks to the door.
Stupid me, I'm not here to repair relationships with my siblings, it'll just hurt them more in the long run. I will just explain why I am here and then I will go back to the hotel.
I threw one of my knives past Matheo's head and into the door he was about to walk out of.
"Cameron, no throwing weapons in the house." Lucien states firmly.
"Sorry," I mumble, but it reality felt indifferent about the whole thing. I know how to aim correctly.
Matheo throws my knife back to me and I catch it with the gracefulness of a ballerina.
"Now that I have all of your attention, I will let you know that I didn't just come here to say goodbye to dad," I start, keeping my voice harsh and uncharitable.
They now knew I was here, but by the end of the week I have to make sure they feel no pain when they realize I'm gone, again.
"How did you know...?" Mylan starts to ask, but Lucien shakes his head slowly at Mylan. He knows where I'm going with this.
"I got a letter from dad." I pull out the letter I folded neatly in my pocket. "People are after the remaining heirs to the French Mafia to try and overthrow the family. I am here to help so that does not happen."

AN: Hello readers. Sorry for the late update. At this time I really don't have a schedule of when I'll be updating this book. I just started college and am still trying to get used to my new workload and job. Of course I will try my best to continue updating this book with a new chapter every 2-3 weeks, but for now thanks for reading. It's truly encouraging to see every reader that continues to scroll through each new chapter I publish.
