Chapter 3: A gift from Father

(Aviva's view)

I watched with growing curiosity as my father grabbed a box from a shelf on the wall, then held it out to me.

"I have a gift for you," he said, as I carefully took the box from him and opened it.

My eyes widened in surprise when I saw a black and silver gun inside.

"It's called Crimson Shard." My father said, when he saw my delight and confusion.

"Thank you father, I've always wanted to be a vampire hunter." I said, and he smiled.

"You're welcome, and I know, because I'm going to train you how to be a vampire hunter." he said, and my eyes widened in amazement.

"Really?" I asked, and he nodded as he took my hand.

"You're almost ten years old, and I believe you must learn how to protect yourself." he said, and I nodded as I looked him in the eye.

"You're right," I said, and he smiled at me as he squeezed my hand.

"You are a Yagari, so hunting vampires should be a breeze once you've completed your training." He said, and I smiled.

"Plus I've got my father to teach me." I said, and he laughed.

"This is true, and I'm teaching you because I believe in you." he said, and I chuckled.

"I love you, dad." I said, and he smiled as he ruffled my hair.

"I love you too, Aviva." he said, as he smiled at me softly. "Do you miss her?" I asked, as I saw tears prick in my father's eyes.

About two years had passed since Krysta's death, and we were still adjusting.

I could see that my father missed her because he began to smile less.

I missed her too, she had been my best friend as well as my mother.

and I felt myself tearing up at the thought of her and dearly wished that she here with us.

"I miss you, mother." I whispered, as the tears fell and I felt father pull me into a hug.

"I know it's been hard for us to adjust, but we're going to have to manage on our own." He said, as he rested his nose on mine.

"I understand daddy, I just miss mother very much." I said, and he nodded as he gripped my hand.

"I need to go into town today, would you like to come with me?" he said, and I nodded.

"Of course! I love town, what are we getting?" I asked, and my father grinned at me.

"We're going to get some food for home and some board games." he said, and I grinned.

"Sounds exciting, daddy." I said, and he grinned.

"Well then, come along dear." he said, as he held the door for me and we walked out of the house together.
