Chapter 15 - Tsuki vs Ulquiorra

Tsuki's POV

(Present time)

I stood looking at Ulquiorra, just staring and staring. He looked so much the same, yet so much different. I never got a chance to see him in the earlier battle of soul reapers and espadas. Now I could finally meet my long lost friend. I played with my dark blue ring which was on my middle finger. I had kept my promise; I wore my bow and ring all the time.

Ulquiorra was wearing the white and black espada clothes. His green eyes were the same cat like shape but they were emotionless. Starting from below his eyes going down both cheeks, was a green line… like a tear stain? It reminded me of the day he died. His face was pale. Ulquiorra’s eyes held no life and he didn’t smile. He looked like he hasn’t smiled for a long time. Is this what being an espada did to him?

“It’s been a long time” I decided to say after a long stretch of silence.

“Do I know you?” Ulquiorra asked with no emotion in his voice. My heart shattered. I don’t know what hurt more: him not knowing me or that he doesn’t seem to have any feelings anymore.

I didn’t know what to say. I was scared to say anything. I couldn’t say anything. Should I say something? He gave me a look that said ‘let’s fight’. I had to say something. I couldn’t fight Ulquiorra, I refused to.

“We knew each other. In another world, in another time” I settled on those words. Ulquiorra face didn’t change but I could slightly see in his eyes that he was thinking.

“That was another world and time. We shall fight now, unless you are going to beg for mercy” he said. I was a bit shocked at his words.

“I won’t beg for mercy. It’s not something I would do” I told him. He raised his arm and pointed a finger at me. Why was he pointing at me? No. He was starting to fight. I quickly jumped out of the way as a cero destroyed where I was standing just seconds ago. Phew, that was close.

It looked like I would have to fight. I got out my zanpakuto from its sheath. The sheath was dark blue with some silver designs. My zanpakuto was still in its regular form but I could feel the energy from it, waiting to be released. I got to fight Ulquiorra. I had to accept it! Stop arguing with yourself, Tsuki. I will fight him! Oh, hell, let’s just get this over with! It’s not like I’m going to win anyway.

“Shine with the moon, Yoruhoshi!” I yelled and my zanpakuto changed form. Yoruhoshi: Night star

It became a dark blue staff with a white crescent moon on the top. Small and delicate silver designs snaked up and down the staff. Near the top, two little stubby poles stuck out.

I got into a fighting stance as Ulquiorra took out his zanpakuto. His spiritual pressure was powerful, and when I say powerful, I mean powerful. Yep, I’m definitely not going to win. There goes all my positive spirit. Hee hee… *sweat drop*

Ulquiorra’s resurreccion form looked a bit similar to his other form. He had these white horn things on top of his head and a black tail. His whole body was black except for his chest, which was shirtless, so now I could see his hollow hole. But what I thought was cool was… the BAT WINGS! Now I can call him “Batty-kun”, like I used to.

I released more spiritual pressure even though it will never reach Ulquiorra’s. He shot another cero at me but I hit it away with my staff. Time to take this up a notch.

“Mikadzuki!” I called and my staff glowed blue. Mikadzuki: Crescent moon

I did a little wave with it and then pointed it to Ulquiorra. Shooting stars magically appeared and shot at Ulquiorra. He dodged some, hit some away and basically, he only got hit once. That hit was a small hit on his arm. My attack barely did anything! Calm down, Tsuki. Breathe, breathe, how do I breathe again?

Ulquiorra was now coming towards me. Alright, some more. I gathered more spirit energy for my next attack.

“Hafumun!” I shouted. Hafumun: Half moon

The top of my zanpakuto was changing shape. Level one of my zanpakuto is the shooting stars and level two is this. The crescent moon changed to a half moon, which was more powerful than the crescent moon.

Like before, I waved my staff around. A moon beam came out of it and I shot it at Ulquiorra. He dodged but I moved the moon beam to follow him. The only annoying thing about the moon beam is that it can't bend in a curve, it can only move by turning corners. Hopefully you understand my slightly confusing explanation.

I moved the beam faster and then I created another one. They were like two missiles turning sharp corners, trying to catch Ulquiorra. I finally hit him on the arm. Ulquiorra’s green eyes looked straight into my blue ones and I felt hypnotised. He shot a cero at me. I quickly made another moon beam and used the three moon beams to cover me. The force of the cero pushed me back and I fell onto my butt. I quickly jumped up.

Ulquiorra made a green sword thing out of thin air and threw it at me. I dodged and then he made another one. This time, he came at me and tried to hit me with the sword. I blocked it with my staff and pushed back. We did a few strikes and blocks with none of us getting injured. Then I had an idea. It was perfect that Ulquiorra wanted to fight close range. I flash stepped away from Ulquiorra.

“Mangetsu!” I cried. Mangetsu: Full moon

This was the final stage of my zanpakuto. The half moon on my staff turned to a full moon. I did the little wave with it and the area around Ulquiorra and I turned to darkness. It was pitch black so Ulquiorra couldn’t see but my zanpakuto gave me the power to see in the dark. I flash stepped behind Ulquiorra and hit him with my staff.

My eyes widened. He put his hand up to block it and then kicked me back. I tumbled around on the ground before I stood up again. Damn! He could sense me. I flash stepped all around him, trying to get him confused. Then I chose a moment to strike where I hit him with my staff which I put spirit energy into it to make the hit stronger. I hit him on his back and he lost his balance for a second.

Then I flash stepped around him again. I took a strike at his side and managed to hit it. He stumbled a bit and looked around. I flash stepped back and observed the damage I did, just a big bruise. He’s too strong for me. Well, if I die today, I want to die by Ulquiorra.

I flash stepped towards him again and was about to hit his other side when he grabbed my arm. “Damn” I muttered and cursed as he flipped me onto my back and slammed me into the ground. I quickly rolled away before he could attack me again, and then stood up.

“How did you?” I asked him, referring to how he sensed me.

“It was easy to sense your spirit energy. Did you really think I would get hurt when I could sense you? That was merely a bruise” Ulquiorra told me. What? He was pretending that whole time? Then I guess the dark is useless.

I put some more spirit energy into my staff and came at him from behind. He turned around to face me and held up his hand when I hit him with my staff. I smirked and kicked him but he grabbed my leg with his other hand. I quickly kneed him with my other leg. It hit him square in the chest. He let go of me and stumbled back a bit. I quickly jumped in the air and prepared a kick for his head.

“Too slow” Ulquiorra said and aimed a cero at me.

It was coming too fast so I couldn’t flash step out of the way. I blocked with my staff but that wouldn’t really help would it? Most of my body was burnt and it hurt like hell. I lay on the ground still holding my staff. Since most of my spirit energy was gone, the darkness around us disappeared. Ulquiorra looked me up and down.

I got back on my feet. Once I got my balance, I charged at Ulquiorra with my staff. I hit him with my staff, he blocked with his hand. I kicked him, he blocked with his other hand. I punched him, he dodged. I kicked him, he grabbed my leg and twisted me again. Despite my body’s protesting, I hit him with my staff as hard as I could. It hit his chest, and what do you know, it left a bruise.

“Damn you, Ulquiorra!” I yelled.

Ulquiorra threw me on the ground and I tumbled, and tumbled, and tumbled. Until I hit a tree. I cried out in pain. My back hurt so much. I slowly stood up and I saw Ulquiorra standing right in front of me. My body wasn't feeling well so I couldn't do anything when Ulquiorra hit my shoulder with his bare hand. That left a big bruise. I use a staff and he uses his hand, yet I get more hurt than him.

I fell to the ground. Ulquiorra took a step closer to me. I shuffled back until my back hit the tree trunk. Out of habit, I twisted my ring on my finger. I do that when I’m nervous.

Wait a second, where’s my ring. I looked at my middle finger to see it gone. It was there when I was fighting Ulquiorra… until he threw me on the ground. I must have lost it when I was tumbling around. My eyes searched the place where I tumbled but I couldn’t find it. No, no, no, no! I can’t lose that ring. It was one of the things that reminded me of Ulquiorra. It was too precious to me. I started panicking.

“Looking for this?” Ulquiorra asked. I looked up at him and saw my ring in his hand! I quickly reached for it but he held it away from my reach.

“Give it back!” I shouted. He just shook his head.

“No. Not until you tell me what this means to you and why it seems so… familiar to me” Ulquiorra said. I gasped. Was he remembering now? Not knowing what to say, I just told him half the truth. It's not like I'm lying.

"It's my favourite ring that I wear everywhere and it was given to me by someone special" I said and averted my eyes from his.

"How do I know it?" Ulquiorra asked.

"Maybe because you had a ring and it looked like this one" I said but it came out more like a question. Ha! Imagine Ulquiorra with a ring, a ring with a big diamond. A small giggle escaped my mouth and I quickly put my hand over my mouth.

Ulquiorra sighed. "Tell me, and tell me the truth, Tsuki."

I kept my gaze on the ground. Should I tell him? I slowly looked up. I looked at my ring, in his black fingers. Then I looked at his hollow hole, then his green eyes. His eyes held no emotion, but I could see the loneliness and sadness. He needs me. I decided that it was the right time to tell him. Our eyes locked.

“That ring, it’s precious to me because it was given to me by someone who I loved but died ages ago. It’s familiar to you because… you were the one that gave it to me” I said.
