Chapter 44 (Rewrite)
"Pleaseeeeee," he begged. I let out an irritated groan and covered my head with my pillow. This morning, I was woken up to Lucifer begging me to go somewhere with him for the past hour. After what happened yesterday, I didn't care about anything anymore. I just wanted to be left alone.
"Skylar, please. It's only a quick stop somewhere. If you don't like it, I will never bug you again," he offered. I peeked at him from under my pillow to see him with a gentle smile. Him never bothering me again would be the feeling of heaven on Earth.
"Where are we going?" I questioned. "It's a surprise. Now, please get up," he pleaded. I let out a groan and got out of bed. I grabbed my towel and headed into the bathroom. "Dress warm," he hollered.
"Shut up," I shouted back. This idiot is going to be the death of me. This better be worth me getting out of bed, or I swear, I'm literally going to break his neck. I took my shower and got out. I slipped into some sweats and a T-shirt. I looked through the drawers for a hoodie but didn't have one. I combed my hair and wore my boots. I grabbed my phone and headed downstairs.
I walked into the kitchen after hearing someone talking. I looked around the room and saw Axel pouring himself a drink while Lucifer was on his phone. My presence was known since he turned around with a smile. "Ready," he asked, getting up from his seat.
"Yippy," I sarcastically replied.
"That's the spirit," he smiled, ignoring my sarcasm. I rolled my eyes and walked over to Axel. "Want one to go?" he asked, referring to a drink. "No. I'll take mine right now," I said, grabbing his cup. I filled it up and chugged it down. I shoved the glass in his hand and looked up to see they were both staring at me.
"Like y'all never seen me drink before," I scoffed and headed for the door.
Lucifer followed behind me as I exited the house and got into the car. Lucifer hopped into the driver's seat, and I saw a hoodie on his lap. He then held it out to me.
"You're going to get cold," he softly spoke.
Without arguing, I took the hoodie off and put it on before pulling the hood over my head. I settled back in my seat as he started the car and pulled out of the driveway. I hated how soft his hoodie felt on my skin, how intoxicating it smelt, and how I secretly loved it.
"I'm sorry for how I responded yesterday," Lucifer broke the silence. I sat there quietly. I didn't care for his apology. "I know you're mad at me, and I don't blame you. That was wrong of me, and I should have never done that. I know I should let you make your own decisions. It's just that I want you safe at all times, but I see I hurt you most of the time, and I am once again sorry. My Princessa doesn't deserve that," he sighed at the end.
I didn't say anything. I knew he would be sorry at some point—he always is. It's the same cycle on repeat. We drove the rest of the way in silence, and I decided to close my eyes for the rest of the ride.
After who knows how long, we finally arrived. I exited the car and looked around to see we were in front of iHop. "I thought we should grab breakfast first, then head there," he informed me of the plan. I still didn't know where there was. Not bothering to respond, I opened the door and headed inside. I heard him mumble my name, but I just ignored it.
Breakfast went really quiet—well, for me. Lucifer wouldn't shut up for a second. He would either apologize, compliment me, or ask a question. I stayed quiet the whole time, not bothering to respond. What seemed like years later, we were finally on the road again, heading to who knows where.
I looked out my window and saw the view becoming more familiar. The car stopped, and my heart sank as I knew where we were—at the cemetery.
"I know I can't tell you how much I'm sorry, so I thought you could use the visit." I turned to look at him and saw a small, sincere smile on his face. "I'll wait in the car for you," he offered. I slowly nodded my head and got out of the car. I took a few steps forward before stopping. I stared at the gates that were a few feet away. Should I invite him to meet my parents? Is it worth it? Is this a stupid idea?
I sighed, "You can come if you want," I whispered without turning around. I knew his heightened hearing heard me before I started to walk through the gate. I spent about four minutes walking to my parents' gravesite. Looking around the cemetery, I felt at peace. The leaves on the tree were slowly turning brown as the season changed. It was a beautiful sight. I sat between them as I approached their plots, facing the stones. "I could really use you guys right now," I admitted as my eyes swelled up with tears.
"I'm sorry I haven't visited you. I know it's been a while, but a lot has happened," I mumbled, trying to stop myself from crying. I stayed silent. I wanted to tell them everything about what happened to me, but was it even worth it? Would I feel any relief after? I guess there's nothing to lose at this point.
"I don't know where to start or if I should be telling you this," I huffed. I took another minute trying to find the right words. "I was kidnapped and drugged and tortured," I choked out.
I brought my legs to my chest and wrapped my arms around it. "Everything was so fuzzy at first, but when I was rescued, I started remembering things. Horrible things. I couldn't sleep or eat properly, and I would have hallucinations about the guy who kidnapped me, but it eventually stopped for now. James wants to know what happened, but I wouldn't tell him, so he's not allowing me back in the house or do missions again unless I tell him. It's either that or therapy. For right now, I'm living with someone else and his brother, who James trusts," referring to Lucifer and Axel.
"I trust him, too," I whispered to myself. I knew that no matter how toxic Lucifer's and I's relationship was, he would protect me with his life, and so would Axel.
I heard leaves crunching in the distance as the footsteps came closer. I didn't bother to look up or make a move. The person stopped next to me and sat down on the grass. "Are you okay?" a familiar voice asked. I turned to see Lucifer with a concerned look on his face.
"Define okay," I laughed as I found the question amusing. I was far from okay.
"Alive," he defined it and turned to look at my parents' stones. I turned to look at them with him. "I don't think me coming here is a good idea, considering your parents are Christians and you've invited me here," he stated.
"They might as well know who saved me and takes care of me." I shrugged. I felt his gaze on me. "Take care of you?" he said more like a questioning away.
I nodded, "You may be a pain, but you do take care of me and protect me," I explained. He nodded in response, and we sat there quietly. I felt more sadder the longer I stared at their stones.
"Do you think they'd be disappointed in how I turned out?" My eyes remained glued to their stones.
His hand gently grabbed my chin before turning my head to look at him. "Your parents would be so proud of you, and I bet they are. Whatever you do, I know they're looking down at you with a smile on their face. I know you've gone through so much, and I also put you through a lot, but you've always managed to remain strong, and for that, I commend you. Do not let anyone discourage you from being yourself. Be who you want to be, and know that your parents will always support you," he gently expressed. "Understood?" he questioned.
I nodded my head as he still held my chin. Lucifer then leaned in and planted a kiss on my forehead before releasing me. We spent about an hour chatting to my parents before returning to the car.
"Thank you for bringing me here." I walked beside him. "No need to thank me."
"Why did you act like that at Mel's party?" I blurted out. I watched as he stopped and turned to look at me. "Like what?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
I felt a lump forming in my throat. His tone changed like I had triggered something in him. It was almost aggrieved. "Uh... hurt," I tried to find the right word. "Hurt is what you describe it?" he asked, amused. "Yes." He tilted his head, studying me briefly before walking back to the car. What had just happened?
I ran up behind him. "What would you call it?" I asked, keeping up with his pace. "Definitely not hurt. That makes me sound so ...weak," his face scrunched up in disgust at the thought. I felt a little angry at his statement.
"What?"
"You heard me," he replied as he beeped the car. I walked up to the passenger door and looked at him to see he was approaching the driver's side. "What's wrong with being weak?" I asked in confusion.
He disappeared within a blink, and I felt a body push me against the car. I let out a gasp and turned around to see Lucifer trapping me against the car. I looked up to see him wearing a smirk.
"I just forgave you for your bullshit, so don't start with me again," I warned. His smirk widened, "On the contrary, you started this one," his voice grew deep.
"All I just asked was what's wrong with being weak," I defended.
"Sweetheart," he called in a low pitch tone. "I'm the Devil. Weak is not in my category," he sneered.
"Ah, you might want to check again because the last time I checked, I could bring you down, thus making you weak," I boasted with a smug look. He pushed his body against mine and leaned in closer. "Don't try me," he whispered in a dark voice. His scent trapped me in, and I felt my knees getting weak.
His hand held me by the waist, so I was still standing. "Looks like I'm your weakness too," he smirked. I rolled my eyes, "Shut up," I scoffed. He let out a soft chuckle, "You know, ever since we saw each other again, we haven't kissed yet. The only time we were actually about to kiss was at my party. We were always interrupted," he stated.
"Yeah. I remember. Too bad you can't get none of this," I laughed and gestured at myself. "Cocky gets you nowhere," he stated as he stepped away from me.
I laugh again, "Funny saying that, considering it got you everywhere."
I looked around and saw we were back at the house. He had teleported us along with the car. "I said it doesn't get you anywhere, not me," he hollered over his shoulder.
"You're too sweet. You know that," I sarcastically replied. I watched the back of his head move from side to side, shaking. I looked around and noticed a bunch of armored cars in the driveway. "Who do these cars belong to?" I asked as we stepped inside.
"My guys."
"Boss," someone called out. Lucifer turned his head to someone in the living room. I silently trailed behind and saw a few other guys I'd never seen before. Some of their eyes were pitch black. They all got up and bowed their heads in respect to him. You'd never catch me bowing my head to Lu. Their heads turned to me, and I felt embarrassed by their stares, knowing they probably read my mind.
"Don't worry about her. What do you want?" Lucifer's demonic voice came out with his eyes glaring at them. "We captured the guy who kept attacking our shipments," he informed Lucifer.
"And you made sure this was the leader?" his voice became assertive. "Yes, Boss," he quickly replied without hesitation.
"Where is he at?"
"In holding. Downstairs."
Lucifer nodded and turned towards me as they left the room and headed down the hallway. "I need to take care of something. Just grab a drink or relax meanwhile, and we can do something after," he sternly spoke with his eyes black.
He stood before me, making me look up to him. His hand gently grabbed my chin, and his thumb glided against the bottom of my lip, causing shivers to run down my spine. His eyes trailed over my lips, "The only time you'll ever have to come close to bowing or kneeling is fitting this cock in that pretty little mouth of yours," his demonic voice growled with lust.
My stomach filled with a warm feeling while my brain was too shocked to respond. He seemed to realize because he chuckled before disappearing in front of me. I have got to stop thinking so much.
