Chapter 42 (Rewrite)

On our way home, I tried to keep my mind blank, which wasn't easy. Occasionally, I would slip up and glance at Axel to see if he read my mind, but his attention stayed on the road, to my knowledge. Being around people who can read your mind was exhausting and scary. Unable to zone out or just freely think was a prison itself.

"Can I ask you something?" I turned my attention to Axel. "Of course," he said with a small smile. "What happened to Lucifer?" I asked more hushedly as if it were a forbidden question.

Silence filled the car. I looked at Axel, who was conflicted by my question. "I would love to tell you everything, and trust me, I would, but I just can't. It's not my place to tell you," he tried his best to explain. I frowned a bit, a bit disappointed at his answer. It wasn't fair, but it's not like I could force it out of him. "I understand," I murmured.

"You know, you are very unique," he stated. My eyebrow rose in curiosity. "What do you mean?" I asked. "Well, you understand things. If I say I can't tell you, you drop it. Other humans would try to force it out of the other person or just keep bugging them about it, but not you," he hummed at the end. Ha! If only he knew.

"But there are other people who let it go, just like me," I replied.

"True, but it doesn't mean they have your perks, let alone personality, which makes you unique," he smiled at the end. "Well, thank you, I think."

"You're welcome, I think," he mocked with a chuckle. After about 10 minutes of driving, we were finally back home. I got out of the car and entered the house. Walking into the kitchen, I saw Lucifer sitting by the counter with a glass filled with probably hard whiskey in his hand. "Ello mate," I tried to talk in a British accent.

He turned around and looked at me. His eyes were red, his posture was bent, his hair was messy, and his face looked pale. "What happened? You honestly look like you just did meth," I gasped, walking closer to him to take a look. "Nothing. How was your breakfast?" he diverted the conversation. I felt the top of his forehead and quickly yanked my hand away as his skin burned me. Axel quickly grabbed my hand to check how badly I burnt myself, but it was nearly nothing.

"You're burning up," I looked at him concerned. "Don't worry about it," he said, dismissing me. He turned around and continued to drink. I decided not to push his buttons and take a seat since Axel was now getting himself a drink.

"Want one?" he asked, holding up a glass. "I'll pass," I said with a thankful smile. He nodded his head and poured himself a drink. "So... when are you going to talk to James about what happened?" Axel asked. I shrugged, "I don't think I could bring myself to it."

"But he's not going to let you back in the house or let you go on the missions again," he informed me.

"Who said I have to move back in?" I question with a mischievous grin. Axel and Lucifer both turned to look at me, bewildered. "I could just buy a house, and as for money, I could get a secret side job in the organization," I explained.

They both stared at me in silence. It didn't take a genius to know they didn't like the idea. "What?" I asked.

"You're not going to buy a house," Lucifer said sternly.

"And you're certainly not leaving me here with him," Axel pointed his thumb to Lucifer. Lucifer rolled his eyes and went back to drinking. "Why can't I buy a house?" I asked, looking at both of them. "I just told you why," Axel glared at me.

I glared back, "You know what I mean. Give me a real reason!" I huffed, looking between both of them.

"I don't think you need a reason, and besides, wouldn't James find out and try to stop you?" Lucifer bluntly replied without looking at me. "True, but it's worth a try," I suggested. The idea of being on my own excited me. It was about time I had my own place. Imagine how peaceful that would be.

"Well, I'm not going to let it happen. You're staying here until you sort things out with him," Lucifer berated me.

"Dude, chill out! Let her make her own decisions," Axel jumped to my defense. "Thank you!" I butt in. Lucifer growled and pulled his phone out of his pocket, dialed a number, and then placed the call on speaker. I looked at Axel, "What is he doing? What are you doing?" I looked back to Lucifer in confusion. I felt anxiety fill my stomach as I didn't know his next move.

"Yo, what up?" James' voice came through the phone. I stared at Lucifer in shock. What was he doing? I went to grab the phone, but Lucifer used his powers to hold me in place. Before I could say anything, he muted me. I looked to Axel for help, but he couldn't move. I watched as Axel's eyes blackened as he tried to fight against Lucifer's powers but was only able to move a few inches.

"Would you be fine if Skylar bought a house and found a new job within the organization since she's not going to tell you anything anytime soon?" Lucifer asked in a monotone whilst looking at me. Why? Why are you doing this?

"Absolutely no. If she dares to do that, I will shut her account down," James barked into the phone. Lucifer stared at me as I tried to shake my head. Please don't. Don't ruin this for me. "Well, she's planning on doing it," Lucifer snitched. I felt my heart dropped as tears were spilling down my cheeks. Why is he doing this to me?

I heard a loud groan come across the line. "Tell her not to," he shouted. "Don't worry. I got it, and you don't have to shut her account down," Lucifer stated.

"Alright, but if anything happens, just call me," James replied before hanging up. "What the actual fuck, bro" Axel's demonic tone echoed through the house as he was now able to move just as I was. "Well, I wasn't going to let it happen," Lucifer shrugged.

I stared at him in disbelief. So many bullshit stunts he pulled, and it all had to be on me. "You okay?" Axel's voice came beside me. I turned to see he had an agitated expression. "Peachy. Why?" I asked in a monotone. "I can feel your powers radiating off you," he studied me.

"Just be thankful you're a demon," I said with a small smile. If I could kill right now, I would. He slowly hummed and sipped his drink. "I'm surprised you're taking this well, Princessa," Lucifer amusingly stated.

I shrugged, "Well, I happen to stick around you a lot, so the bullshit you pull becomes normal for me. I mean, sure, it takes a few minutes to gather my thoughts and feelings, but that's the new normal around here, right?" I grinned my teeth. "She's being sarcastic if you didn't catch that," Axel scoffed, rolling his eyes at Lucifer.

"I know, dumbass," Lucifer glared at him. I got off the chair and walked towards the door. "Where are you going?" they simultaneously asked. "I'm going for a drive in Axel's car, and I want to be alone," I emphasized the word alone.

"If you're not back by midnight, I will find you myself," Lucifer threatened as Axel tossed me the keys.

"Oh, no worries, father. I will be sure to return home. If I'm lucky, a bus will put me out of my misery before I return," I chirped before slamming the door shut behind me. I walked over to the end of the driveway and hopped into Axel's car before speeding off.

I had taken more than enough bullshit from Lucifer. I was going to try a little experiment on him. You see, there is some part of me that loves him, but there's also a part of me that hates him, and right now, the part that hates him wants me to put him 6 feet underground. How am I going to do that? I have no idea, but we are going to learn today.

After about 20 minutes of driving, I was surrounded by stores and other cars. I pulled over and took out my phone. I pinpointed my location so I knew which street to take to go back to the hell house. With so many ideas running through my head, I followed through with some of them. I searched for the nearest church. I followed the directions and stopped once I was in front.

I turned the car off and headed up the steps. I walked inside and saw it was empty. Some nuns were cleaning, and the priest was just on the stage, walking back and forth. The nuns greeted me and I greeted them back. I made my way to the priest, who gave me a small, welcoming smile.

"Hello. My name is Father Paul. How may I help you?" he asked. I would like to talk to you about something ...unnatural," I stated, not knowing how to find the right words.

"Sure. Let's take a seat," he gestured to the benches. We walked over to the benches and sat down. He waved his hand, and the nuns obediently left the room. He gave me a nod, signaling that I should continue.

"I want everything to stay between us. No matter what I tell you, you have to hear me out, and you can't tell no one," I sighed. "This must be big, and I promise to keep this between us," he promised.

"Okay, well, I don't know how to say this, but I'm living with the Devil," I murmured. I looked to see he was calm, "I know, child," he smiled. "You do?" I questioned.

He nodded his head, "We all live with the Devil. It's part of life. We have the temptation and the -"

"No," I cut him off. He looked at me with curiosity. I mean, like physically, I'm living with the Devil," I huffed out. I don't expect you to understand, but he's actually among us, and he's in human form. It's a long story about how we met, but he's becoming a real pain to deal with," I tried to explain. I watched as Pastor Paul tried to take in my explanation. I could tell this wasn't going to work. I would have to wing it a little.

"So you can actually see him and talk to him?" he asked, a bit doubtful. God, please forgive me for lying. I nodded my head. When it turns 3 in the morning, I can hear banging across the house, and stuff randomly falls off the shelves. My mirror just broke this morning while I was getting dressed. Sometimes, I swear I can see a shadow figure run across my room," I lied, trying to sell the story.

His eyes widened. "That's a strong evil presence in your household," he analyzed. I nodded again. "It's gotten better, though. I had someone bless the house, and it all stopped, but I hear little knocking now and then. I wanted to ask if I could have a lot of holy water to bless my house again," I asked.

"How about you give me and the sisters about half an hour to bless the water and fill up some bottles for you," he offered, causing me to jump to my feet. "Thank you so much," I squealed as I shook his hand, causing him to chuckle.

"Do you mind if I run to the store quickly?" I asked.

"No, I don't mind. Come back at whatever time you want today, then. I'll try to do some research while you're out," he offered. Poor guy was going to try to help me find answers that don't exist. I thanked him and left. I got in the car and searched for any magic-related or voodoo shops. After a few minutes, I found one not too far from me, about 20 minutes away.

I started the engine, sped down the road, and headed to the address. I drove down the alleyway, and at the end, I saw a small store. I got out of the car and stood in front of the shop. The outside of the shop was black with the words Crystal's Occult in red writing. Just judging the outside, it looked like it was not updated with maintenance. The windows were tinted, so trying to see inside was out of the question.

I let out a sigh as I pulled the handle to the door. Here goes nothing. Walking into the shop wasn't what I expected. The door was dim but on the high-end spectrum. The floors were white marble, while the shelves and tables were gold and white marble. Beautiful crystals were on display, along with candles, books, knives, and even small altars. This place was beyond beautiful, and the energy surrounding it was welcoming.

"Hello. Welcome to Crystal's Occult. I'm Crystal. How may I help you?" a voice chirped from the side of the room. I turned to see a ginger-haired girl behind the counter with a smile on her face. As I got closer, I saw the soft freckles on her face that bought out her vibrant blue eyes. She was beauty itself.

"Hi. You have a stunning shop here," I looked around and continued to admire everything. She let out a giggle, "Thank you. I try my best to keep it neat and nice."

I turned my attention back to her. "Well, you've done a great job. I'm sorry to be so blunt, but could you tell me how to get rid of a demon?" I asked. I watched as amusement and curiosity took over her face. "Mind if I asked why?" her eyebrow rose up. "It's hard to explain," I sighed in defeat as I recalled the priest not believing me.

"Try me," she challenged as she leaned on the glass counter displaying gems.

It's not like I have anything to lose, even if she doesn't believe me. "Four years ago, I ran into a demon. He wanted to save me for selfish reasons, but that changed after we started...liking each other. One minute, we hate each other, and then we like each other again. Then, after everything, he had to leave, so he left without a word. A few months ago, he returned. I ran into him by accident, and he still likes me, but he's the same asshole he was," I skipped on the details. I studied her expression as she processed my story, expecting her to laugh, but she didn't.

"Do you know this Demon's name?" she questioned sternly.

"You're probably not going to believe me, and you're probably just thinking this is all a joke," I murmured. "Does it look like I am taking this as a joke?" her voice stricken as her eyebrow rose. She was serious and willing to help. It was as if she was familiar with this type of work.

"I can't say his name out loud, or he will either know or appear," I informed her. Her hand reached out from under the counter, pulling out a pen and paper before passing it to me. I took the pen in my hand and stared at the paper, debating whether I wanted to do this or not. Fuck it. I wrote out Lucifer's name and passed it back to her. She immediately gasped. "Oh my God. You're Skylar Marran," she shrieked in shock.

My eyes widened. "You know who I am?" She quickly nodded. "The whole Supernatural Realm has heard about you, but no one knows what you look like," she noted. "How does everyone know about me?" As confused as I was, part of me regretted coming here. What if she snitch on me?

"Some demons work with us witches," she halfway explained. She's a witch? I stared at her still confused.

"Right, sorry. I'm starting to realize whoever you hang out with doesn't tell you anything." She took the pen and started drawing on the paper. "I will try to explain this the best I can. This is hell," she drew a circle.

She then drew another circle.

"This is Earth."

Then, another circle.

"This is the Supernatural Realm. In this realm, witches, demons, warlocks, and half-breeds go here. Some even live here. The main thing you should know is that this person also rules the Supernatural realm," she pointed to Lucifer's name. "He doesn't just rule Hell alone. It would be best if you never went by yourself since you're human. You'd be like a meat to the slaughterhouse," she emphasized how dangerous it was. Thinking back, I realized I might have already been there when Lucifer took me to that club.

"Is there a club with a ceiling resembling a galaxy?" I questioned. I watched as her blue eyes turned angry, "He took you there?! I mean, I know you're untouchable if he's with you but that is stupid of him," she hissed.

"Anyways," she looked back to the paper causing me to giggle at how nonchalant she was. "Demons can hope between all three realms, but witches and warlocks can't. This also includes half-breeds. Say a half-breed was part witch and demon, she can go to all three realms, but all of Hell's demons will try to fight her. They only like full breeds unless Hell itself accepts them."

"That's weird, considering they all hang out together in the Supernatural Realm," I commented.

"Right! Not only that, but Demons and Witches work together to do each other's dirty bidding. About your situation, I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but you're royally fucked. If it was a regular demon problem, I could help you, but this is the demon," she gave me an apologetic look.

I frowned. "Well, I appreciate your help. Thank you for the crash course," I offered a small smile.

She frowned a bit, "Wait here." She walked away and disappeared through the doorway in the back of the store. She then returned with a book in her hand. "I'm not sure if this would work but it's worth a try if you'd like. It had some powerful chants in her and rituals. Follow the directions carefully," she warned, flipping through the pages before passing me the book. I looked down to see the book had no illustrated cover except for the black leather stitches.

"To be honest, if it was a normal demon, you could just get rid of it with some chanting here and there, but this is the almighty powerful one we are talking about," she stated. She walked away, and a minute later, she returned with a small book.

She then walked away again and returned with some candles and some herbs. She pulled out a small wooden plank from under the counter. I saw there was a pentagram engraved into it.

"You will just need these for some chants and rituals. Just note that any of this can not kill him. It could only torture him...maybe," she spoke hopefully.

I studied her for a minute as she shoved everything into a bag. "I'm grateful for your help, but why are you going out of the way for me?" I found myself asking out loud. Crystal froze before letting out a heavy sigh as she looked up at me.

"I rarely run into friendly people, let alone humans. Whenever someone comes in here, it's always to do their dirty work or a contract some demons offer. It's just nice to help someone who needs real help. This business gets lonely," her voice came out sad, as if she was recalling a specific event. I felt sorry for her. She was just like me.

I took the pen and wrote my number on the paper. "That's my number if you ever want to be friends. It's your decision if you want to be friends. I can't promise you'll be safe around me, but I can promise I wouldn't use you unless it's for food," I joked, causing her to giggle. "I'd like that. Let me know how this goes," she gave me the bag. I pulled out some cash, but she reached over the counter and stopped my hand, causing me to look at her.

"Friends don't pay."

I gave her a thankful smile. Crystal walked me to the car, and we hugged each other. I couldn't who needed this hug more, me or her. After a few minutes of chatting and hugging again, I got into the car and left. Despite knowing whether these things would work on him, I knew one thing for sure: Crystal was an amazing, kind person. She was definitely a friend I wanted to keep around.
