Chapter 19 (Rewrite)
After a couple of hours, it was lunch. I looked over my shoulder to see Gabriela pulling Lucifer out of his chair. He took her hand in his and walked towards the door. "I'm going out for lunch today. You all have an hour's break," he stated before walking out. I watched as the door closed and they walked into the elevator and the door closed.
"You want to come to lunch with us?" Mike asked, walking up to me. I got up and shook my head. "No, sorry. There are some things I need to sort out," I replied. They just nodded and left. I walked around the room and looked for a shredder. I finally found one in a closet. I pulled it out and looked around the room. If I can't quit, then I'll just get myself fired.
I walked to the filing cabinet and removed everything from the first self. I then went over to the shredder and started to shred the files. After a while, I decided it was taking too long. I focused my power and pulled out all the files from every self in the room. I watched as papers flew around the room and then ripped apart into tiny pieces.
The papers dropped to the ground, and I walked over to Mike's desk and grabbed the office laptop. I threw it to the floor and smashed it until I was sure it wouldn't work again. I then did this to Jake's computer and Lucifer's. Death wish, much?
I walked over to Lucifer's desk and sat down in his chair. I started to open his drawers to see papers, which, of course, I then ripped apart. I pulled out the last drawer, but it didn't open since it was locked. Locks were never a problem for me since I could just use my power to break them open. The lock then popped open, and I pulled open the door not long before gasping.
A picture of me lay on top. I slowly picked up the picture and looked at it to see it was from four years ago. I was in a nice blue and white dress. I turned the picture around to see something written in the script.
Skylar Marran, the love of my life. My heart will always belong with you.
I felt my heart drop. I placed the picture on the desk and looked inside the drawer. I pulled out a notebook and opened it to see the same handwriting.
Day 1. I left her. It hurt, and I still love her.
Day 2. I never said goodbye, but I still love her.
I skipped some pages and then read.
It's day 70. It's been about three months, and I miss her so bad. I still love her.
Day 110. It doesn't get easier. I still love her.
I kept skipping days, and I noticed they all had something in common: I still love her. I angrily threw the book back in the drawer and kicked it shut with my foot. I picked up the picture and stared at the writing. He really did love me all this time. He could have come back to be with me, but no, he didn't.
The door opened and I looked up to see it was Jake and Mike. Their faces were filled with shock as they looked around the room that was now trashed. "He's going to kill you" Mike choked out as he stepped over the broken laptop.
"Better than being here, right?" I asked. Jake just shook his head and followed behind Mike as he walked towards me. "What's that?" he asked, referring to the photo in my hand. I placed it on the desk and pushed it towards him. Jake peeked over his shoulder, and they both looked at it and read what was written on the back.
"Where'd you find this?" Jake asked as he took the photo from Mike. "His draw," I shrugged. They both looked at me in disbelief. "You know," Jake started as he turned around. I should be more shaken and ask a ton of questions but for some odd reason... I'm okay with it," he stated as he sat in his chair.
Mike shook his head, "Something you rarely see," he said, pointing behind him at Jake with his thumb. We both looked at Jake to see him glaring at us before we all burst out laughing. Our laughs eventually died down, and then it hit me, "You guys came back early from lunch when you have an hour," I stated.
"Yea, we'd like to come back here as soon as we finish lunch if he's out so we can finish work early, but..." he paused as he looked around the room. I'm guessing we'll be leaving earlier than I thought," he chuckled. "Hey," Jake shouted across the room. We both looked up at him in curiosity. He got up and walked towards the front of the desk.
"Since you haven't trashed his desk yet... may I?"
"Go for it," I smirked as I stood away from the desk. "No fair," Mike pouted. I shook my head and chuckled at his childish tone. "You can have his closet. I haven't trashed it yet," I offered. He ran to the closet and started pulling out papers. I watched as Jake threw his lamp across the room and then pushed everything off his desk.
"Does anyone have Sharpie markers, scissors, and a water bottle?" I asked, looking around the room. "I do," they both answered at once. I need it all," I smirked. They walked to their desks, grabbed all the markers, and then placed them on Lucifer's desk. Mike gave me a pair of scissors, and Jake gave me a water bottle. I opened the water bottle and threw out some water, leaving it three-quarters full.
I cut the maker in half, removed the inked sponge, and placed it inside the water bottle. After I did that with about 12 markers, I closed the bottle and shook it up. "What are you doing?" Jake finally asked.
"You'll see," I grinned. I turned around and looked at both of them. "Would you both do me a favor and grab all the printer ink you can hold and bring it back up here?" I asked politely.
"Normally, I would say no, but I like where this is going," Mike grinned. They both ran off, and I continued doing what I was doing. I opened the bottle and cut a tiny hole in the cap. I then placed it back on and turned to the glass.
I started shaking the bottle again since the ink was mashing together in the sponge, turning it into a thick liquid. I started spraying the glass with the bottle. I watched as it turned black from the ink. After the glass was covered, I started spraying it around the room. I watched as the white wall started to run with black ink. The door opened, and I turned to see Jake and Mike's hands full of ink cartridges.
I watched as their faces were filled with shock. "Remind me not to piss you off," I heard Jake mumbled. They walked over to the desk and dropped the carts on the desk. "So what-"
"Just sit and watch," I cut Mike off. They took a seat, and I grabbed the paint carts. I took a chair and placed it by the door. "When they go out, who is coming in first," I asked, looking at them. "Gabriela" Jake spoke. I nodded my head and continued to work.
I connected 6 carts over the door and connected 6 more 1 feet away from the door. "You're going to ink them," Mike hollers out, and I nod. "So wickedly smart," Jake grinned. I gave them a smile and continued to tape the ink cart to the ceiling. Once I was finished, I got up and looked at my beautiful work.
"They're just taped to the ceiling. How are they going to explode?" Mike asked.
I was going to use my powers. "Don't worry about it," I smiled. I made my way to Lucifer's chair, sat in it, and placed my feet on the desk. "Sky," I hear Jake called.
"Yeah," I answered, looking up at him. "You're the most exciting thing that has happened since I worked here," he smiled, and I shook my head and laughed. "Thanks," I smiled back.
I looked straight ahead to see the elevator opening, revealing Lucifer and Ms. I-can't-shut-my-mouth. "You might want to go to your seat," I mumbled, nodding towards the door. They followed my gaze, and within seconds, they were at their desk. I watched as Gabriella giggled as they walked towards the door. Just as told, she walked in first, then shopped in shock as she looked around the room, causing Lucifer to stop by the door.
I glimpsed at the ink cart and watched as the ink sprayed both of them. Her light pink dress was covered in black ink, and I couldn't really see Lucifer since he was behind her. A loud scream escaped from her, and I couldn't help but smile. "You," she shouted, looking at me.
She was then pushed aside, and Lucifer came forward, and I saw he was pissed. His eyes were turning black, but they stopped as if he were trying to control them. "Get out," he growled to Jake and Mike. They both got up fast and ran out of the office. "So, am I fired now?" I smirked.
"YES!" Gabriela shouted.
"NO!" Lucifer's voice boomed over her.
"WHAT?!" Chicken Head and I both screamed.
"You're going to stay extra late today and clean this shit up," he growled, looking around the room. I looked at him in disbelief. "Babe, she -"
"Be quiet," Lucifer ordered her.
"Why?" I mumbled. He turned to look at me, "What?"
"Why are you doing this to me?" I asked, trying to swallow my tears. I felt like my heart was breaking into pieces all over again.
"You made a mess and destroyed practically all the files... scratch that. You destroyed all the files and even my laptop," he said, looking at his laptop, which was on the floor by his foot. He was avoiding my question.
I looked at my hand and realized I was still holding the picture. I then looked up at him, looking at my hand. His eyes filled with something, but I couldn't read it. "I guess this means nothing, right?" I asked, looking down at the picture. I heard him sigh, and then a door slammed shut. I looked up to see Gabriela storming into the elevator.
"Awe, I don't want her to know your little secret," I mocked. He ignored my teasing and walked over to the desk. I got up and backed away from the desk. "No. Do not get close to me," I demanded. He ignored my demands and walked towards me. "I'm warning you," I yelled, holding scissors. It's an office; what do you expect?
He grabbed my hand and took the scissors out of my hand, then tossed them across the room. I pushed him back so I wouldn't become trapped, but I failed. I tried to punch him but he held my hand and pinned me against the closet door. I sucked in a deep breath and looked up at him.
"I hate when you do this. You try to run when I specifically told you I'm not leaving you," he spoke in a low voice. "I know you wouldn't leave. This is why I'm leaving," I answered back.
He stared at me and signed, "The urge to kiss you every time I see you is so hard to control," he groaned. "I wish Gabriela were here to hear that," I scoff. A look of hurt flashed across his eyes. "She means nothing. I promise you," he spoke.
"You know," I said, pushing him back a bit, "You promise many things," I replied.
"Why is it so hard for you to believe me?" he yelled. I was now unpinned from the door, and I walked a few feet away from him.
"SKYLAR!" he shouted.
"BECAUSE YOU LEFT ME!!" I yelled back. "I know you had your reasons, and I know you explained why you never said a word, but you will never know how much it hurt when you left," I choked out, holding my tears back.
"Sky, I'm here now, and I know it hurts. I can't tell you how sorry I am," he said.
I shook my head in denial. "You don't know what hurt is. You are the definition of hurt and pain," I scoffed.
"You don't mean that. I understand your pain -"
"Do you, Lucifer? Do you understand my pain? It was so bad James took me to therapy. Fucking therapy. Some things can't be fixed. I was on so many medications, and then I ended up majoring in Psychology. Tell me how that happened. A girl who needs help majors in something that offers therapy to others. I don't even know why I picked this major," I shouted as tears started to fall.
"Sky," he said with sympathy as he approached me. I shook my head and felt my phone vibrating. I pulled it out and wiped my tears away before viewing the message. It was from Henry.
"I have to go," I mumbled as I walked out. I heard him calling my name, but I ignored him.
