Remembrance
Five years. Five long years since my world got ripped from me in a single, cruel blow. My kingdom lost to dark magic, wielded by someone I held very dear to me. She killed everyone I loved, my mother, my father and my dear sweet sister. She was only ten at the time. What ten year old deserved that?
Anahaven has been under a new rule ever since. The people are tortured on a daily basis. My knights have survived, but paid dearly for serving my family. It's not fair. Why should they have to suffer for a crime they did not commit.
I rip my eyes away from the crystal, gifted to me by the druids that live in the valley of the fallen kings. I can't watch them anymore. Not knowing I can do nothing to help them. One man, no matter how powerful against an army. There is no way that will end well.
Besides I have another destiny now. So as much as it pains me, I must stay in Camelot.
"Merlin are you awake? Arthur has requested your presence." Gaius calls from the main room. With a heavy sigh I bury the crystal in my drawer and head out to begin my duties. Gaius gives my a sympathetic look, he knows what today marks. He is the only one in Camelot who knows the real Merlin. Or should I say Prince Merlin Ambrosius of Anahaven.
I tear a small piece of bread of the loaf and head of to Arthur's chambers. Today is my day of, so why am I being summoned. George is taking over for me. Well to be fair that might be why, George isn't the best person to talk to. Arthur is probably bored out of his mind without my charm!
I reach the large double doors to his chambers and bump them open with my hip. I have to bite back a laugh at what I find within. Arthur on the floor with his clothes back to front and armour strewn everywhere.
"what on earth happened? I haven't even been gone an hour and you are already falling apart!" The humour of the situation is a pleasing distraction that I am grateful for.
"I tried to get dressed. George never showed up." Arthur mumbled turning the same colour as his cape. I sigh, knowing I am not going to get my day off after all.
"Come on sire, get up." I chuckle, helping the King up of the floor and rearranging his clothing so it is on properly.
"Thank you Merlin. I have a meeting I must attend, I want you there as well." I nod respectfully which is really out of character for me but I am to emotionally drained to try and maintain my bubbly facade. Arthur seems to notice this because he gives me a rather strange look before leaving his chambers.
After a couple of seconds I follow him, praying that this meeting will not last long.
Arthur is chatting away the entire way to the great hall, but I don't have the heart to respond except for the occasional nod.
"Merlin are you alright. You are awfully quiet today." Arthur says, stopping just before the hall. I nod my head and open the door for him, receiving yet another strange look.
Arthur strides into the hall and takes his place on the throne awaiting the arrival of the court. I stand at the edge of the room in the shadows so to be out of sight, as are the other servants. I sometimes miss being like Arthur, adored by his people. I envy the fact he can train whenever he pleases and help people in any way he deems fit. While he is ruling his kingdom I am stuck as a servant with only memories to the time when I was actually happy.
The doors open again and three foreign knights walk in. They are wearing deep blue capes and bore no insignia. That blue seems oddly familiar but I can't place it. Arthur stands up on their arrival and walks down the steps to greet them.
"Welcome to Camelot." Arthur greets with his formal smile, otherwise known as his extremely fake smile.
"Thank you for agreeing to see us your highness. I am afraid are Kingdom is facing great peril." The head knight says. My eyes widen as I realise who this is. Sir Christian, my father's best knight and one of my oldest friends. That means these knights are from-
"What kingdom are you from. I see no crest." Arthur asks inquisitively.
Anahaven
"Anahaven my lord."
My knees buckle and I have to try and fight the darkness that surrounds my vision. Why are they here?
"What matter have you come to discuss?"
"Five years ago Anahaven was attacked by the sister of our former king. She killed our leaders, but both the Prince and Princess escaped. We have reason to believe the prince is hiding in Camelot. He is our only chance of regaining Anahaven. We have come to take him home." Christian announced. A ripple of whispers spread around the room but I couldn't focus on them. My ears were ringing and I could barely breathe.
My sister is alive. After all this time believing she was dead. I didn't even look for her. How could I have been so stupid.
"Merlin are you alright?" Gwen whispered from beside me. The last thing I heard was a concerned shout from Gwen. Then everything went black.
