If there was anything I didn't want to do, it was talk.
Jade was the last person I wanted to look at, let alone talk to. Not only did she infiltrate Stiles' home and practically kidnap me from the floor I was sleeping on, but she bossed me around, telling me to be quiet. Hell, I could have screamed bloody murder right then and there if I had wanted to, but I didn't want Stiles' dad to wake up, or Stiles for that matter. I didn't like the idea of Jade and Stiles together.
Then there was the constant replay of just punch her, Corey in my head, but for some reason, I couldn't do it. There was something about hitting a girl that got to me; and it wasn't like it would really hurt her. She could heal in a matter of seconds, which might have actually made it okay to hit her...
We were now standing outside, a couple of yards away from the house to where no one could hear us, even if we did shout, which I knew was bound to happen. I mean, this was Jade we're talking about...of course I'll be shouting.
"Corey-"
"No, you listen to me," I snap, ready to get everything off of my chest. "I don't know why in the hell you want to talk to me at four in the morning, but that's beside the point. Everything that you've done since you got here has ruined my life, Jade. If you're here to say that you are sorry, save it. I don't want to hear your pathetic apology. First you kidnapped my girlfriend, held her captive, and then you almost killed her. Not to mention the fact that you're the face she sees every night when she wants to sleep but can't. So no, I don't want to talk to you, Jade. I just want you out of my damn life."
She stares at me blankly, searching for the words to say. The old Jade I used to know would have been in tears by now, but this one just stared at me with a dull expression. I thought about turning and walking away from her, but something made me stay.
Finally, she says softly. "Corey, for what it's worth, I really am sorry. I-I don't know what's gotten into me...Deucalion isn't the same. When I first joined the pack, he promised me that we wouldn't kill anyone unless we had to. After hearing about Boyd...it was inhumane. I hope you know I didn't have anything to do with that."
She was spinning a sob story. "Maybe not, but you're the one with them. You're the one who's on their side, fighting their battle. Remember how things used to be with me and Kaitlin?"
Jade stares at me, almost as if she wanted to comment on my first statement, but then she calmly nods her head.
"She had turned me into someone I wasn't, Jade. She made a mess out of me. Can't you see that this is the exact same situation here, only twenty times worse?"
She stares at her hands. "I know you hate me for what I've chosen, and I get that, but Corey...you're making me out as if I'm the villain."
"Because you are!" I shout, suddenly more than glad that we were far away from the house. "Your eyes are red, Jade! Do you not understand what the hell that means?"
The sound of my heartbeat rising pounds in my ears, along with the sound of crickets chirping in the grass around us. There was some type of empty silence between us I stared at her, trying to find the person I once knew inside of her. Everything about her was different, and I knew then that there was no hope for her.
"Why are you here," I grit, knowing that she didn't drag me out here at four in the morning just to apologize for something she didn't even care about.
Her jaw tightens. "I came to warn you."
"And why should I believe you?" I fire back, crossing my arms as goosebumps rose on them.
Jade tries to reach for my hand, but I take a step back. "Because you know I wouldn't lie to you about something like this."
Suddenly, I was interested. Not really interested, just curious.
She goes on. "I overheard Deucalion talking about coming for you soon, Corey. He says that he needs you on his side now if he's going to win this fight."
"Tell him to go to Hell," I snap before turning around to go back to the house, done with this conversation. She was just telling me things I already knew.
"Corey, wait!" she shouts as I stop, not turning to look her in the eyes. "Listen to me, okay? That's not all. He wants to make you a weapon."
I turn around then. "What are you talking about?"
"He wants to use your abilities against your friends," she states, not moving from her place. "You're getting closer to actually seeing the future, aren't you?"
I wanted to tell her no, but something inside me told me that she was right. What I had seen when Lydia screamed and when I was dreaming felt too real...like it was bound to happen sometime down the line. It scared me to know that Deucalion wanted to use something like that against my friends, so I didn't say anything to Jade.
"If he gets you Corey, your friends don't have a chance," she says, uncrossing her arms. "You're the prize in this game. Whoever gets you first is the clear winner."
I shake my head. "You know I won't help Deucalion."
"That's what I'm here to warn you about," Jade breathes, taking a few steps closer to me. "Deucalion is a man that either gets what he wants, or he destroys it. If you aren't on his side by the next full moon, he will kill you, Corey. You're the prize he can't stand to lose against to."
Something about the way she said it made me a little scared, but it was just something I had already guessed myself. "So, why are you telling me this?"
"Because despite how much you think I hate you, Corey," she sighs, her eyes wide. "I still care for you, and you're still my best friend."
My jaw clenches. "As much as I appreciate the warning, we aren't friends, Jade. That ended the night I drove off the bridge."
I turn to walk away then, but before I could even start walking, I hear a soft sniffle come from behind me. A part of me knew this was a sob scene, but another part felt terrible. Some part of me deep down still felt some type of connection to Jade, and I knew I just couldn't leave her crying in the middle of the freaking yard. So, I turned around.
She was crying, but only a few tears leaked down her face. I tried to find words to say, but she was speaking before I could find them. "So that's it? Our friendship...just gone, like that?"
I thought about saying that's what happens when you almost kill your supposed friend multiple times and his girlfriend, but I couldn't. She was crying, and I couldn't say that to her. My instincts always told me to treat girls the way they should be treated, and I couldn't be that cruel to someone, even if it was Jade.
So, I thought I'd be honest with her. "Jade, I can hardly look at you now without seeing a monster. Yeah, you're a werewolf, but you've changed in another way that I can't understand. You're not the same girl I grew to know, and I'm not the same guy you knew, either. We've both changed, and you just need to accept that."
"I have accepted it," she says, her sad tone starting to fade away and turn into an angry one. "I've accepted that you've revolved your world around her; that girl. You'll do anything for her, and I get that, but wasn't it that way once for me too?"
I stare at her, trying to find the hidden meaning. "What does any of this have to do about Allison-"
"Everything!" she shouts, her sad face turning into a crazy one. "The only thing that changed with you was her. She changed you Corey; whether you can accept that or not, it doesn't matter. If you wouldn't have met her, you'd still be the same."
"It'd still be dead!" I shout back, seeing red. No way in hell was she going to yell in my face about Allison when she was the one who's saved my life more times than Jade has. "I can't even count how many times she's saved my ass, unlike you."
Jade's eyes flash red for a moment, and I could tell she was losing control. "She's keeping you tied down here, Corey. If it wasn't for her, you'd be back home with your parents, where you should be. Imagine how much they're missing you right now."
I had no idea where she was going with any of this, but I felt the need to throw it back into her face. "You want to preach to me about going back home? Yeah, I'm sure my parents miss me like hell, but at least I'm not apart of a murdering spree in the next town over while my sister is at home staring at the scars on her wrists from where she cut herself."
Jade seems utterly confused after I said that, until it hit her. "What...what are you talking about?"
"I saw her when I was a ghost," I breathe, remembering the scars on her wrists very clearly. "I went home to see what was happening there, and I saw her, standing in the bathroom, about to cut herself again...because of you. I might be selfish for staying here rather than going back home, but you can't compare my crime to yours, Jade."
Tears were falling down her face again, but this time, I didn't feel anything for her. This was all on her; not me. I wanted to feel like crap for throwing that in her face, but for some reason, I didn't at all. She wanted to attack me for what I've done, but she can't learn to look into the damn mirror at herself. She deserved to cry.
I didn't have anything left to say to Jade; nothing that I wouldn't regret saying, as far as I knew. So that's why I turned around and started to march back to the house, leaving her crying in the middle of the yard. Something told me that she begged for me to stay, but I wasn't going to turn back around even if my life depended on it. She was alone in this now, and I needed to make that clear.
I almost reached the house before I turned back around, remembering something I wanted to make damn sure that she knew. If she couldn't get it through her thick skull, then I guess I've only made another enemy, not that she wasn't one already.
When I turned around, she looked up at me, her bright eyes glowing through the darkness, but they weren't red. Sadness filled them; along with regret and shame, but I felt none of those things as I grit my teeth.
"Come after Allison again, and I'll make sure it's your blood that's spilled next."
----------
No lie, Corey for this chapter was inspired by Barry from the latest Flash episode; only because of how sassy he was to Eobard. I friggin loved that episode though; it was more than perfect.
So what do you think is going to happen to Corey? Deucaloser gonna kill him for not joining his side? Corey gonna join him after all to save his own booty? You decided (:
Oh, and if you can't get enough of Corey, go check out an AU called Daylight by mvltiversed. If you love Bo McCall and Corey Walker, then double the awesomeness, right? Either way, it's gonna be epic, so go read that sucker!
vote and comment as always!
