07. First Day Blues

"You told them about your abilities?" Allison says to me as she reaches into her locker, grabbing a French text book before searching for a pencil.

I lean up against the locker beside her, skimming over the schedule some lady at the office had given me. "Yeah, after the twins came at me, Scott wondered what they had wanted me for. I didn't have much of a choice other than to tell them."

Allison grabs a blue pencil before shutting her locker door. "It's good they know I guess. No more secrets..."

She fades off as her eyes drift to the floor. I could tell then that she was thinking of how Scott had acted towards her earlier today. "Allison, you weren't in the wrong to tell them, okay? They needed to know."

"But I should have told them earlier," she sighs. "Scott has a right to be angry with me. I practically lied to him for months."

I push myself up off the locker, the mint gum in my mouth starting to lose its flavor. "It wasn't lying to him. It was simply just your secret. Besides, I'm sure Scott has kept you from a lot of things too."

Allison scoffs then. "You're right...like how he hid the fact that he was a werewolf and that my family were hunters."

"See?" I nod, agreeing with her. "We all have our reasons to keep secrets."

A small smile spreads on Allison's face, making me bubble inside. It slowly fades away again as she thinks for a moment, her eyes finding my own once again. "Do you think Scott...likes me?"

I gulp then, remembering what Scott had told Stiles that day back at Kate's funeral. He had confessed that he did in fact have a crush on Allison, but other than that, it was totally obvious. He was practically head over heels for her, like how he acted back when we all went ice skating. I didn't want to tell Allison though; not because I was afraid I'd lose her, because I knew I wouldn't, but I didn't want to be the one to tell her. That would have to be Scott himself.

"Like as a friend?" I say, cocking my head ever so slightly to the side.

She shrugs her shoulders. "No, I mean...what if he's acting like this not because he's mad I lied to him but because he likes me."

"I wouldn't know, Allison," I sigh, wishing that this topic would end. It made me feel uncomfortable for some reason. "The only one you can ask is Scott yourself."

Why did I have to say that.

She nods her head, looking as if she took my advice. I force a smile onto my face as she stares at me, a real one forming on her lips. "Don't look so nervous, Corey. I'm your girl."

My fake smile turns into a real one, the words coming from Allison's mouth playing over and over in my mind like a broken record. Before I know it, I'm pressing my lips onto hers for a soft kiss, everything else around us drowning out. It amazed me that Allison could make me forget who I was or what I was doing when I was with her, it being her special talent. Every kiss we shared made me realize how madly in love I was with her.

She pulls away gently as her bright eyes scan my face, her hair framing her face almost perfectly. "Need help finding your first class?"

My eyes drift from hers as I lift my schedule up, seeing that I had Chemistry first hour. I had came to school with Allison when I was dead a couple of times, but I didn't exactly remember where everything was and who everyone was. "Yeah um...Mr. Harris?"

"Yuck," Allison says, her nose wrinkling up. "You have him first hour?"

I make sure I had read the schedule right. "It appears so. Why?"

"Let's just say he's the worst teacher in existence," she groans before pointing down the hall. "He's the second door on the left. I wish you luck."

I look down the hall at the door she was talking about, seeing Scott and Isaac both walk into the room, along with the twins close behind. "I'll need it."

Allison notices the twins as well. "Corey, if they try anything-"

"I can protect myself," I mock her as I grin, seeing her raise an eyebrow at me.

She places a hand on her hip. "Seriously Corey, if they try anything, run. I don't care if Mr. Harris tells you to get back; keep running and find me."

"I think I'll be fine," I say, looking back down the hall. "Isaac and Scott are in there. They won't touch me in there."

Allison reaches out and takes my hand swiftly, giving me a tight squeeze. Her eyes are stern as they stare into my own, my mind telling me that she was more than serious. "Be careful, okay?"

"What could go wrong?"

----------

"Class, we have a new student," Mr. Harris says as I stand at the front of the room, more than nervous with everyone's eyes on me. "Tell us your name."

I gulp. "Um, Corey. Corey Ham."

A couple of kids snicker in the back of the room. "Well, welcome to Beacon Hills. I think you'll like it here."

Mr. Harris shoo's me away as I make eye contact with Scott, who was sitting in the third desk back, tapping his pencil. I pull my eyes away from him as I find my seat next to some blonde headed boy, sitting down quickly to try and avoid the awkwardness that was directed towards me. I've never had to introduce myself before at school and I hoped that this would be the last time I'd ever have to worry about that.

It wasn't until Mr. Harris started talking again when I saw the twins sitting beside me, one desk in between us however. They both were staring at me when I looked over, smirks plastered onto their faces. My eyes narrow as I turn back to the front of the room, trying to imagine that they weren't there; that they weren't staring at me.

Around ten minutes go by of just sitting in class, listening to Mr. Harris ramble on about some mixture, before Aiden and Ethan all of a sudden just walk out of the room. Everyone stares at them as Mr. Harris tries to get them to come back, but of course they don't listen. Eventually, Mr. Harris just shrugs it off and acts as if nothing had even happened.

I couldn't help but wonder what they were planning, since it has to be something. Two alpha twins just don't get up in the middle of class and walk out for no good reason. I keep questioning it in my mind before I see Isaac's hand fly into the air, almost as if he was agitated.

"Isaac?"

"I need to go to the restroom."

Mr. Harris sends him as he practically flies out of his chair and out of the room, not bothering to look back once. Scott's hands gripped the edge of the desk when all of a sudden he stood up, almost as if he was desperate to go after Isaac for whatever reason.

"I need to go to the restroom too," he begs, practically bouncing in his spot.

Mr. Harris narrows his eyes. "One at a time."

"But it's an emergency," Scott repeats one more time. "Like a dire emergency."

Mr. Harris' face washes over and it looks like he's about to seriously burn McCall before his eyes land on me, making the hair on the back of my neck stand. Why was he looking at me?

"Is that what I think it is?" he spits, sounding totally disgusted.

I look around me. "What?"

"Gum," he groans as he closes his eyes. "Is that...gum in your mouth?"

I stop chewing as the rest of the class looks back at me. "Um yeah...it's mint. Did you want a piece-"

"Gum is not allowed in this classroom," Mr. Harris snaps back at me quickly, making me jump slightly.

I shrug my shoulders slightly. "Oh well I didn't know-"

"There is literally a sign on the wall as soon as you walk in," he says as his finger points to a bright neon pink sign that was on the wall, saying "No Gum" that was bolded and underlined.

I act as if I'm about to stand. "Sorry, I didn't know. I'll go spit it out-"

"Yes, please do," he says, his dark eyes glaring at me through the glasses. "But just because you're new here doesn't mean you get off the hook. Lunch detention today."

My jaw falls open. "What? Are you kidding me?"

"I am not kidding you," Mr. Harris says back while making quotation marks around kidding with his fingers. "I can already tell we're going to have a great year, won't we Corey?"

I don't answer him as Scott gets back on topic. "I still need to use the restroom!"

"If urine were to pour from every orifice in your body, I would still reply with one at a time," he snaps before there's a loud bang outside in the hall, causing everyone to jump from their seats and go to the door. Mr. Harris leads the way before I'm pushing my way through, standing next to Scott as we looked down the hall.

Isaac was standing there closer to us of course, and then Ethan was lying there on the ground with blood pouring from his mouth. It appeared that Isaac had beaten the crap out of Ethan, which wouldn't surprise me, but I knew that he didn't do it. Isaac wouldn't make a scene here, and Ethan sure as hell wouldn't let Isaac beat him up. This was staged.

"Lahey, lunch detention!"

-----------

"How did we manage to get lunch detention on the same day," Allison whispers over to me, the two of us sitting in Mr. Harris' room once again. She had fallen asleep in French class or something like that which landed her a spot here, in the seat next to me.

I groan. "I shouldn't even be here. I'm here for chewing gum that you gave me."

"Sorry about that," she sighs. "I forgot that he's so strict about that."

I shake my head. "It's alright. I didn't need to have a good reputation here anyways."

Allison raises her eyebrow at me before Mr. Harris walks back into the room, looking more bitchier than normal. "For those of you who have never had lunch detention before, let me explain it to you. You all are here because you have profoundly disturbed me or another teacher, so congratulations to you. You will be doing jobs that a normal janitor would do, since we can't seem to keep a janitor hired here or alive long enough for that matter-"

"Should I even ask?" I whisper over to Allison who just rolls her eyes slightly.

"-Gage and Rebecca, you will be cleaning the bathrooms. Tori and Iris will be sweeping the floors, and-" Mr. Harris stops as he looks between Allison and I, a devious smirk rising on his face. "Allison and Isaac, restocking the closet. And since new students tend to herd together, or so they say...restocking the soda machine is left to Corey and um...Jade is it?"

My stomach turns at the sound of her name. I didn't even think she was here at school, let alone in lunch detention. It wasn't until I turned around when I saw her sitting there next to Isaac, a wide smile on her face. She gives me a little wave as Allison's eyes flick back and forth between me and her, knowing that this was the Jade I had told her about.

And this is why you don't go back to school when you come back from the dead.
