05. Secrets

"Corey," I hear someone whisper, but the voice just bounced around inside my mind. I could tell that I was between consciousness and being fast asleep, but I couldn't quite tell myself to open my eyes and wake up. It felt strange to sleep again, since I had gone without it for so long, but right now it felt like I was sort of in a dream, making everything feel ever weirder.

"Corey," the voice whispers again, my eyes darting around behind my eyelids. The voice this time was a little more fiercer, but I still didn't mind it. No way did I want to wake up just yet.

Finally the voice practically yells this time, but it wasn't the same voice as before. My eyes shoot open when it screams in my ear, it sounding just like Allison's. I feared that maybe she was in trouble, so I had to open my eyes and wake up. But when I look around to figure out what was happening, all I saw was Sheriff Stilinski knelt beside the couch I had been sleeping on.

"Bad dream?" he says quietly, my heart starting to finally slow down.

I shake my head as I rub my eyes. "Sort of."

"Well, you need to get up," he says, sounding just like a father figure. "I enrolled you at school so you need to get ready."

My eyes widen. "What? School-"

"It's only to keep you out of trouble," he states, standing again. "I'm not sure how long you'll be staying here, so might as well get you back in school. It's better than having to graduate a year after your grade."

I understood what he was saying, but school? Really? All this time since I've been back, not once did I think about going back to school. I knew that I needed it, but this really wasn't the time. Hell, I just got back and now I'm dealing with an alpha pack, sacrifices, and then my own abilities. Maybe going back home wasn't such a bad idea after all.

But I couldn't leave Allison.

"Stiles has cross country practice in thirty minutes," he tells me, starting to walk away. "I figured you'd go with him instead of walking to school. I need to go to work but I'll be back home later tonight."

"Okay," I mumble, trying to wake myself up fully. I hear the front door shut before I'm on my feet, wanting to go talk to Stiles. He had told me last night how he figured out the people dying were sacrifices, but we didn't really get into depth about it.

Before I know it, I'm up the stairs and peeking my head into Stiles' room, seeing him standing there shoving things into a duffle bag, more than likely stuff for cross country practice. He turns and sees me then, zipping the bag before walking over to his dresser.

"Here's some jeans and a sweatshirt," he says while tossing the items over to me. I guess he didn't realize Allison had bought me my own clothes awhile back.

I catch them before sighing. "Well good morning to you too."

Stiles gives me a half tired smile. "What's good about it? Sacrifices...cross country practice-"

"You don't seem like much of a runner," I state, not really meaning to sound rude. I mean, he wasn't the greatest at lacrosse, and I thought it was kind of weird that he took up running.

He scans me up and down. "Look who's talking."

"Actually, I'm a great runner," I state, trying to make myself feel a little bit better.

Stiles turns back to his bag. "You better hope you are, because I told Coach that you joined the team."

My eyes bulge. "What?"

"You're on the cross country team now," Stiles says as if it's nothing. "So get on your running shoes, Corey."

"I hate you."

--------

"So you're the new guy," Coach states, but he didn't know that I already knew a lot about him. "Man you're scrawny...are you a good runner?"

I take his insult as a compliment. "Yeah, I won state awhile back."

Coach's eyes light up as he pats me on the back. "Glad you're apart of the team then. Stiles told me your name is Corey?"

"That would be me," I state as he starts to lead me around the locker room full of half naked juniors.

He extends his arm as if he's showing me everything. "These boys now are your family, got that? Well, at least some of them are. You see that kid over there-" he points to a brown haired kid "-that's Greenberg. Don't talk to him. Take my word for it."

I furrow my eyebrows. "Okay?"

He then pushes me away from him, towards Stiles and Scott. "Good luck on your first day--Hey, Greenberg! Put on a damn shirt before everyone starts to go blind! Yeah, that's right Snow White. God, you need a tan."

I look around awkwardly, not really sure what to think about all of this. Stiles and Scott both look at me as they change their shirts, semi-laughing. "Welcome to the team."

"I wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for you," I scowl at Stiles, already sick and tired of this. I mean, I liked running, but all of this was too much for me.

Scott turns towards me. "It's a good way to get back out there. Since you were locked in a vault for two months-"

"Where did you come from anyways?" Stiles asks this time, this being the first question he's asked me about my personal life. "I mean, my dad told me what you told that deputy, but I'm having a hard time believing you."

I wasn't worried about telling either of them the truth, but for some reason I wasn't ready yet. I didn't want to do it until Allison was around me, since she could help me. I knew I couldn't explain myself and prove it without her.

"It's hard to explain," I fade out, not really sure what to say.

Scott looks over at Stiles. "He'll tell us when he's ready."

Stiles nods at his friend before he changes the topic. "So tell me more about what happened last night--with the dog at the vet-"

I haven't heard this story yet. "I looked everywhere. It was like he left his car...his dog."

"Okay. Was he-could he of been a virgin, maybe? Was he a virgin? You know, virginal?" Stiles says awkwardly, almost making me face palm.

The corners of Scott's lips start to stretch upwards. "No, definetly not. Deaton makes me have sex with all of his clients. It's a new policy."

Stiles stops what he's doing as I stare at Scott, my face blank. Stiles had a poker face as well, looking completely and utterly done with Scott. Scott laughs slightly before he goes back to the topic. "No, I don't know if he's a virgin. And why are you talking like he's already dead, he's just missing."

"Missing usually means dead in this town," I groan.

"Missing and presumed dead because he's probably a virgin, Scott," Stiles says, his voice rising. "Who else is a virgin? Me. I'm a virgin okay, and you know what that means? It means that my lack of sexual experiences is now literally a threat to my life. I need to have sex, like right now. Someone needs to have sex with me today. Someone needs to sex me right now!"

Stiles slams his locker shut then, allowing Scott and I to see Danny look over, leaning on his locker. "I'll do it."

Stiles whips around. "What?"

"Come over to my place at 9. Plan to stay the night," Danny says, a smirk on his face. "I like to cuddle."

Stiles glances back at Scott and I. "That was so sweet, are you kidding-"

"Yes, I'm kidding," Danny laughs before walking away, Scott and I snickering quietly.

Stiles frowns. "You don't toy with a guy's emotions like that, Danny! It's not attractive, alright!"

And there's that gay side Allison had told me about when I first met her.

"I'll remind you all that cross country is not optional for lacrosse players," Coach yells at everyone. "I don't need you turning into a bunch of fat asses in the off season."

Just as he says this, he looks over at Isaac and Danny, who had just slipped their shirts off. He gives them an odd look before turning around, knowing that he was wrong about them turning into "fat asses".

Eventually, everyone starts to head out of the school and towards the cross country bus to take us to where we were going to run. I stuck close to Scott and Stiles, since I didn't really know what I was doing nor did I know what to really do. Plus I didn't technically know anyone else, so it was the best option.

We were just about to get on the bus when Scott stopped and looked over towards the parking lot, furrowing his eyebrows. "Allison?"

I looked over at the sound of her name, seeing her standing there waving us over. I wondered what this was about, but I guess I was about to find out. The three of us head over towards her as she stares at me, giving me a look that confirmed what she was thinking.

She was going to tell them.

"What's this about?" Stiles asks, noticing the glances between Allison and I.

Allison takes a deep breath. "I know this isn't really the best time, but it's better for you to know sooner than later."

Scott shakes his head. "What are you talking about?"

"She's talking about me," I state as I walk over besides Allison, staring at Scott and Stiles both. "Believe it or not, but I've known you both a lot longer than two days."

Scott and Stiles have never looked more confused in their lives. Allison takes another breath. "Remember the night Lydia was in the hospital? When she ran into the woods naked?"

Scott and Stiles both nod their heads. "Yeah."

"Well, then we went out looking for her and found your dad, Stiles, at the bridge heading out of town?" she says.

Stiles nods his head, narrowing his eyes slightly. "Yeah. That was the night that accident happened out there, but what does that have to do with anything?"

"I'm one of the people who died in that wreck," I say quickly, not knowing any other way to say it. "Me and my friend Jade were in the car when it happened. I drowned, and I had thought that Jade had drowned too, but I was wrong-"

Stiles holds his hands up. "Hold up--You're telling me that you're dead? That I'm literally talking to a dead man right now?"

"Used to be dead," Allison says, licking her lips slowly. "When we talked to your dad, Stiles, I had seen Corey. He followed me back home and that's when we realized that I was the only one who could see him."

Scott's still speechless. "So how is he alive then?"

"I brought him back," Allison says. "We found an article in the bestiary the night everything happened with Gerard. I brought him back just before we went to France and when he got taken by the alpha pack."

"Which is where Jade comes in," I continue. "She never really died in that car wreck. She was bitten by Kali-one of the werewolves in the alpha pack. Now she's one of them."

Stiles closes his eyes. "So you...you died, and now you're alive again. That's why you didn't tell that deputy everything, same with my dad."

"Exactly," I say, nodding my head.

Scott finally speaks up. "You're just now telling us this?"

Allison chokes up. "I wanted to tell you guys all of those other times, but I knew I'd sound crazy-"

"Allison!" Scott yells, his temper rising. "I would have never believed that you were crazy. Hell, we're involved in the supernatural world. Of course I would have believed you."

Allison slumps downwards slightly. "I'm sorry...I just couldn't figure out how to tell you."

Scott's eyes drift away from her's. "I'm guessing that's why?"

I'm not sure what he's talking about until I look down, noticing that Allison had grabbed my hand and I didn't even notice it. When I looked back up at Scott, heartbreak filled his eyes. I knew that he never dated her or anything like that, but I did know that he liked her...a lot. And seeing this must have crushed him.

Allison notices it as well. "Scott-"

"You three!" Coach yells over at us, pointing. "Last I checked this was cross country, not social time! Get on the damn bus!"

Scott doesn't hesitate a mere moment before he's walking back to the bus, leaving us three left over here. Stiles isn't sure what to say as he follows after his buddy, catching up with him. I look down at Allison as she shakes her head, looking sad yet angry.

"I knew this was the wrong time," she says, starting to pull away from me.

I pull her back. "They needed to know. The sooner the better."

"Maybe," Allison fades before finally getting away from me, walking back to her car slowly. I wanted to follow after her, but Coach yelled at me one more time to get on the bus, so I turned around and did so.

Maybe we shouldn't have told them.
