02. Busted

"How do you know her?"

I look up from my corner, seeing that Boyd was speaking to me. It's been a couple of hours since my encounter with Jade, and no one in the vault has said a single word since then. I assumed that's what Boyd was meaning, so I answered him.

"She was my best friend," I fade out, thinking back to all of the good times we had. "She was with me when I had died...in the car."

Boyd glances over at Cora, who was sitting against one of the the pillars in the center of the room. "I'm sorry."

"There's nothing to be sorry about," I say as my eyes go out of focus. "She made her choice and now she'll have to live with it."

Boyd shakes his head. "That doesn't make it right. I can't believe she'd do that to you."

"You and me both," I scoff.

Cora looks over towards me, finally saying something after hours of silence. "Friends and family come and go, you just have to get used to it. I'm a prime example."

Boyd and I turn our heads. "What happened to you?"

Cora sighs, no longer in her snappy mood. "Couple of years ago my family died in a fire. I had thought that they were all dead, but comes to find out two of them had made it out. That's why I'm here in the first place; I came to find them before someone came and knocked me out and put me in here."

"Hang on a minute," I say as Boyd looks suspicious as well. "Are you a Hale?"

Her eyes flick over to me, confusion behind them. "How do you know that?"

My mind boggles as I try to comprehend that Derek actually had a sister. "Derek uh--we've met."

"He bit and turned me," Boyd says, just as confused about this as I was. "I don't remember him ever mentioning a sister."

Cora holds her hand out. "Wait, he's an alpha?"

"Has been for awhile now," I fade out. "He's the one who killed your uncle Peter."

Cora furrows her eyebrows. "But Peter's still alive-"

"He came back from the dead somehow," Boyd confirms. "Your brother had killed him about a year ago when he was practically killing the whole town."

Cora shakes her head as a little laugh escapes her throat. "Of course Peter would do that. He's always been a psychopath..."

It's quiet for a moment, but suddenly there is a loud breaking sound, causing all of our heads to flick toward the back wall. We hold our breaths before it happens again, this time sounding louder and closer. I stand up then, curious yet excited about what was happening.

"What is that?" I ask as Boyd stands as well, but Cora stays put.

Boyd listens closely. "I don't know. Maybe it's the rescue party."

I don't get to laugh at his joke before I see concrete breaking from the wall, pieces falling and breaking into more. I stumble back slightly as I stare at the small hole, waiting to see who was saving us. A tan hand pokes through the wall before breaking apart more of the wall, creating a huge hole. I felt relieved for a moment when I saw Scott, hoping that Allison might be with him, but instead it was Derek.

This should be good.

"Thank God," I breathe as the two of them step into the room, both of them staring at me. I had forgotten that neither of them knew me.

"Who are you?" Scott asks as Derek walks over towards Boyd, who had suddenly grown silent.

I lick my lips slowly. "Uh, I'm Corey."

Scott narrows his eyes. "Corey..."

It looked as if something was about to click behind his eyes, but then his phone rang in his pocket. I jumped slightly from the sound, since I haven't heard something like that in two months. He reaches into his pocket and answers it as I direct my attention towards Derek, who looked like was trying to calm down Boyd, but I didn't know why.

"What's wrong?" I ask as I look over at Boyd, who was staring at Derek as if he was his next meal.

Derek shakes his head. "You tell me, you were in here with him."

"He was fine two seconds ago," I say as I take a step towards him, seeing him back up as his eyes turned golden. Cora stood up then from behind the pillar, walking over and standing beside Boyd. She had the same look on her face as well; angry and hungry.

"Uh, Derek," Scott says, the phone still pressed against his ear. "We need to get out of here now."

"Cora?" Derek breathes, shocked.

Scott furrows his eyebrows. "You know her?"

"She's my little sister," he says, sounding fazed. I didn't blame him.

Cora snarls. "Derek, you need to get out. You need to get out now."

It was then when it finally hit me. They were acting as if the full moon was affecting them, but in reality, there wasn't even a full moon. In all of the two months we've been stuck here, not once did they turn aggressive. Maybe it somehow built up over time and was just now coming out.

"Derek!" Scott yells this time, looking over at me as well. "We need to leave!"

Before anyone has time to move, I see Ms. Morrell open the vault door, a mysterious look on her face. My eyes narrow as I watch her drop black dust across the doorway, locking the wolves inside of here. Scott and Derek were trapped.

Boyd runs at Derek then, his canines snapping. Cora goes to Scott as I try to make a break for it, knowing that I wouldn't survive five minutes in here. I barely made it out of the vault door before someone is grabbing my bicep, pulling me to the side roughly.

"You're not going anywhere," I hear a low voice say, knowing it was Deucalion before I even looked at him. "I still need you."

I tug on my arm. "Let me go!"

Ms. Morrell steps up beside him as he smiles, knowing that wouldn't be happening. "I'm sorry Corey, but he's right."

My eyes widen when I see her pull out a taser, turning it on as sparks flew off of the end. I grit my teeth, knowing this was going to hurt like hell, but I couldn't do anything about it. I didn't understand why she was with the alpha pack, but I guess it didn't matter. I'll still be stuck with them either way.

She extends the taser towards me, but she never gets to make contact. I jump slightly when I see an arrow fly just past the side of her head, hitting the ground as sparks flew from it. I notice a drop of blood drip from her ear as Deucalion lets me go, shielding his eyes from the sparks, not that he needed to.

A wide smile spreads across my face when I look up and see Allison standing on one of the other levels, bow in hand. She faintly smiles back at me before putting another arrow into the quiver, firing another warning shot at Deucalion.

The two of them go running the other way, avoiding Allison's arrows. My feet work faster than my brain as I run as fast as I could to Allison, more than happy to see her and that bow of hers. It doesn't take my long before I'm up on the stairs and on the platform, running into her arms as she lowered her bow.

"Thank God you're here," I exclaim as she wraps her arms around me as well, her small figure feeling like heaven in my arms. I knew I had missed her, but I didn't know I had missed her this much.

She laughs. "I'm sorry I couldn't of gotten here sooner."

"You're just on time," I grin before she pulls away, lifting her bow slightly. She stares at me for a moment before our eyes flick down towards the vault, hearing that they were still fighting.

She looks worried. "What was that?"

"Derek and Scott are in there," I say remembering what happened a few moments ago. "Boyd and Cora lost control."

Before I can say anything else, Allison is running down the stairs and to the vault, still holding onto her bow. I follow after her as fast as I can as we stop in the vault doorway, feeling my heart thump in my chest. I bite my tongue when I see Boyd throw Scott up against the wall, shoving his claws into his abdomen as he slowly lifted him upwards.

"Scott!" Allison shouts, heartbreak in her voice.

Derek looks back, holding Cora against the wall as she thrashed at him. "Don't break the seal!"

Allison looks frantic as she looks back at Scott, knowing what she had to do. I watch as she kneels down, placing her hands on the floor before sweeping the black mountain ash away. Boyd and Cora look over suddenly before they're running towards the door, leaving Derek and Scott behind.

Allison is frozen in place as I grab her sides quickly, pulling her to the side as we both fell onto the ground. I look up around her as I watch Boyd and Cora run out of the vault and out of the bank, not even bothering to look back. Allison looks down at me for a brief moment before she's getting up off of me, running her hands through her hair as she helps me up as well.

Derek storms out of the vault, pressing Allison up against the doorway. "Do you realize what you just did!"

"She saved your lives!" I shout back, shoving Derek away from her. I step in between the two of them as he breathes heavily, more than pissed off.

He narrows his eyes at me. "Do you not realize what they'll do out there? They'll kill everything they set their eyes on."

"Leave her alone, Derek," Scott mutters as he walks out of the vault, holding onto his wound. "He's right, she saved our lives."

"What about everyone else that's out there?" Derek growls.

"At least I'm not turning teenagers into killers!" Allison fires back, fire in her eyes. I could tell that some of it was to do with what was happening now, but most of it was the haunting fact that he had killed her mother.

"You might not, but what about the rest of your family?" Derek spits back.

I can see the tears in her eyes. "I've made mistakes, but Gerard was not my fault."

Derek's eyes narrow before he's firing back a reply, not a second off beat. "What about your mother?"

"What are you talking about?" Allison asks, the two of us furrowing our eyebrows. Derek turns back to Scott, who's face had suddenly gone pale.

"Tell her, Scott."

---------

"Why would she do that?" Allison sobs as we sit in her car, still parked outside of the run down bank. "Why would my mother try and kill Scott?"

I rub my hand on her back, trying to comfort her, but I wasn't sure how. I didn't know what to say. What I really wanted to do was go and find Derek so I could rip his tongue out for saying that. Allison would have been better off if she didn't know about it. She deserved to have a better memory of her mother.

"I don't know, Allison," I say as she shakes her head, using the sleeves on her hoodie to wipe away her running mascara.

She holds her breath. "I'm sorry--I hate when you see me cry-"

"Don't be," I say softly, wishing that she didn't think that. "Don't apologize for something like that."

She sniffles. "I feel like I'm always crying around you..."

"Because I'll always be here for you," I say as she looks up at me, a smile forming on her lips. "I don't care what I'm doing or where you are, if you need someone, I'll be there in an instant, okay? Don't be afraid to call me. I'd drop anything for you, Allison."

Something clears behind her eyes then, like she suddenly wasn't sad anymore. She leans forwards as she presses her lips to my own, her hands reaching up and grabbing the side of my face. The kiss was soft at first, but it slowly started to deepen as her hands trailed down my neck. Sparks exploded inside me, feeling as if everything was right in the world. Like there was nothing else to think about except Allison.

I had a feeling it was about to lead to more, but that was before a bright light suddenly shone in my face, causing me to open my eyes. I pulled away from Allison as I squinted, trying to figure out what was going on and who it was, but soon my questions was answered when I saw an officer standing outside of Allison's window.

"This is Beacon County Sheriff's Department, please step out of the vehicle and put your hands in the air for breaking and entering."

--------

damn you officer, you ruined it all, didn't you?

So yeah this would have been out sooner but Wattpad decided to be dumb and didn't save the first draft I had. Took me hours to finally get this out, but at least it's here. Usually when stuff like this happens I give up for like a week before finally coming back to it, so you're welcome.

On another note, if you like this book it would be awesome if you would nominate it for the fan fiction awards on thefanfictionawards. I might drop you a follow as well (:
