Chapter 13

Bulkhead paced around the entrance, his optics twisted and jaw clenched. The others were all watching him, anxiety filling their own chest chassis. The kids were in the human section, along with Agent Fowler, who had been filled in on recent events. Optimus was standing at the monitor, worry filling his own processor.

"Wheeljack was supposed to be here by now!" Bulkhead sighed, stopping and letting his arms fall loose.

Arcee wrung her servos together. "You've said that ten times already, Bulk. Saying it more won't bring him here," she said bitterly.

Bulkhead glared at her, while Bumblebee placed a servo on her shoulder plate.

"<Let's not do this right now,>" he sighed, looking up to Optimus. "<What do we do?>"

Optimus looked to the entrance with determination in his optics. "I will track Wheeljack's signal. Be prepared, in the event he has been confronted with Deceptions."

Each of them nodded, but Bulkhead looked panicked. Optimus turned to the console, his servos flying over the keyboard. After a few moments, Wheeljack's signal popped up, his life percentage lowering. He narrowed his optics, putting in the coordinates, turning, and pulling the level.

"Autobots! Roll out!" he shouted, transforming into his alt mode. The others all followed suit, racing after him into the GroundBridge.

Inside his processor, the Prime quietly hoped that Wheeljack's injuries weren't life threatening. He knew that he would not be able to save him if they were.

Ratchet could have cheered as he brought up the coordinates to a near secluded mine. The team had gotten Energon from there a few months ago. If he was in range, he could probably call his team for help. The thought lifted his spark and left his processor abuzz.

"Are you ready?" Alpha asked, walking to the medic's side and looking over the controls.

Omega appeared next to him. "I'm excited! It's been a while since we've seen anything other than snow!"

Ratchet turned to the younger Autobots, hiding his own excitement behind a mask of seriousness. "We need to be wary. While this is a slower, less inhabited mine, it is likely we will come across Deceptions. Mostly Vehicons. I highly doubt any of the higher ups would come to this mine."

At this, Omega stepped back down. "Oh.."

Alpha looked over to his sister, worry lining on his faceplate. "You can't be worried about a couple Vehicons," he said slowly. "We can handle them."

"It's just... been a while since we've last fought.." she muttered.

Ratchet turned. "True... you are younger bots,"

Alpha waved his servos dismissively. "No, we've fought plenty of times before. Trust me, we know what we're doing." He looked away to ignore his twin's shudder.

Ratchet raised an optic ridge. "Alright, if you're sure you know what you're getting into." He turned and started to type in the coordinates.

Alpha leaned to whisper in Omega's audio receptor. "It's not like he'd be able to do much better," he whispered playfully.

The femme turned and slapped him in the helm. "Are you crazy?!" she hissed.

Ratchet turned at the commotion. "What are you two doing now?"

The two perked up, both giving him innocent smiles, though the medic noticed that Alpha was stifling back laughter. He raised an optic ridge, but turned back and finished putting in the coordinates. He took a deep vent and went to the GroundBridge controls.

"Please work..." Ratchet muttered quietly.

Each of them held their breath as he pulled the lever. For a few moments, there was silence. There was a spas of light, and then the Groundbridge sputtered to life. Ratchet and the younger bots cringed as the sparks flew, but the Bridge remained open.

Alpha pulled out two blasters. "Alright, let's do this!"

Ratchet eyed the blasters, noting that the blue glow was brighter than usual. And the hum seemed louder, revving almost like an engine.

Omega shyly released one of her blades. "Um, okay. Here we go!" She shot the older doctor a reassuring smile.

He sighed, pulling out his own blades. "Be careful. There are only three of us."

Alpha smirked, charging forward. "Alright, cover my rear!"

Omega shrugged at the completely stupefied medic, throwing him an apologetic smile. But her attitude had lifted, and the smiled turned adventurous as she followed her brother. Ratchet groaned, shaking his helm, before racing into the Bridge after them.

Alpha, of course, was the first one in, jumping in silently and immediately ducking behind the nearest cover. Omega was quick to follow suit, jumping out on one pede, doubling over in a barrel roll, and jumping back up again next to her brother.

"Clear!" they said at the same time, Alpha stepping out first with Omega on his rear.

Ratchet, who had followed them out a mere few seconds later, was honestly surprised with them. He had assumed since they were younger that they hadn't seen much of war, but they were proving him wrong. They seemed to have experience, at least with rushing in.

The three quickly turned a corner, immediately coming across at least a dozen Vehicons. Ratchet grit his denta, about to take the first step, but Alpha suddenly jumped up and round house kicked the first Con. Landing one the Vehicon's faceplate as it fell to the floor, he raised his arms and shot down another. Omega held out one servo in Ratchet's chassis, smiling at him.

"You're still injured," she told him. "Don't worry about us."

"We can handle it!" Alpha shouted as he leapt at two more Cons, shooting them down.

Omega followed up behind him, running forward and spinning with her blades out. While that seemed amateur, her steps were perfectly calculated so that she hit every Vehicon she passed. Alpha whirled on one pede, letting her pass him, and shooting another Vehicon behind her. Then he lowered one servo, letting her step on it before flinging her upwards. She seemed to glide in air for a few minutes, before her blasters were brought down on the shocked Cons. Alpha smirked, bringing down the last ones just before Omega landed on one pede and one knee. Both of them shot each other triumphant glances as they stood straight, destruction in their wake.

Ratchet couldn't help but stare in shock and awe. These two were experts, as good as his own team.

Alpha shot him a smirk. "Didn't know what you were getting into, did ya?" he teased.

Omega took a deep breath, her blasters hissing just before she put them away. "The rush kinda got to me..."

Alpha laughed, clapping her in the back. "What are you talking about? You were great!"

She sighed. "Exactly my point," she muttered under her vent.

Ratchet put his own blades away, seeing no need to use them. "We aren't finished yet. If we are going to succeed, we need to completely take the mine."

Alpha turned his blasters into blades. "No problem. I can handle it if you want, Omega. Back up the medic." With that statement, he ran off ahead of them.

Ratchet cast the young femme a glance. "Are you alright?" he asked her quietly, following Alpha, but not as quickly.

She shot him a smile, but it looked a bit forced. "I'm fine. The rush gets to me."

The medic raised an optic ridge, but decided not to keep going. He needed to stay focused so he could accomplish his dual mission. Get the Energon, and hopefully, get home.

Home.

Sorry this took so long! I wasn't really feeling this story for a while, and I had a few words on a draft in here for a while... but I got encouraged to do it again so I wrote the rest of this chapter in a couple hours straight!
