Chapter 8

Ji-Eun's breath still pressed on her chest as she passed through security.

Her mind was elsewhere and she simply followed the crowd as they walked to the gate. Ahead she could see Chanyeol's black cap bobbing up and down as he walked but she stared at her shoes and hid between the camera crew for protection.

Sehun had refused to leave her side since the incident but stayed next to her in silence. She knew why.

While she'd been frozen in the corner of the VIP lounge he'd attempted to come to her side. His face had been pale and he entered with timid steps but Chanyeol released Ji-Eun's shaking hand from his grip as soon as he saw him.

Before a word had been said, both the men exited the room, leaving the actress to her own thoughts. She felt much better but she jumped slightly as a loud voice passed through the wall.

Their words were muffled but Chanyeol's voice suddenly grew louder, making it easier to unscramble his words.

"The company should be protecting their artists." Chanyeol yelled, throwing his hands up in disbelief. "Especially Ji-Eun!"

Silence cascaded over the room as Ji-Eun ran through the words in her mind but within a few minutes Chanyeol arrived again.

He placed his arm on her back and stared at his watch briefly, letting out a sigh.

"Are you feeling better now?" He mumbled.

Ji-Eun was speechless as she met his eyes. They were filled with concern and his eyebrows furrowed slightly as he awaited her answer.

"Y-yes"

He gave her the faintest smile and stood from his seat, picking up her bag from the ground.

"We need to check in now so we don't miss our flight" he mumbled, voice barely filling the room as he stared down at her.

She nodded and took the bag from his hand as they left.

Within a few minutes, they had separated again like it was only a distant memory. Ji-eun smiled silently at the manager beside her and Chanyeol hid at the front of the group, chatting with some of his stylists.

When they finally boarded the plane, Ji-Eun could feel her stomach already drawing circles and she searched for her seat. One of the stewardess' gave her a quick smile and checked her ticket, guiding her towards the back of the first class area.

"Here you are, Miss" she announced, gesturing to the empty seat next to the window.

Ji-Eun returned a thankful smile as the woman walked away and looked down at her seatmate in silence.

His eyes were piercing through her skin and a dazed expression covered him. Ji-Eun attempted to squeeze past his knees but his long legs filled the foot space and she stepped back.

"Chanyeol" she mumbled. He returned no sign of recognition but his eyes stayed fixed on her cheeks.

"Excuse me!" She declared slightly louder. This seemed to wake him from his dream and he jumped up from his seat in shock, immediately hitting his head on the luggage space above him.

His hand flew to his head and Ji-Eun tried to hold in her laughter as she finally fell into her chair.

"Are you alright?" She mumbled, grabbing his attention with a small pat on his shoulder.

"Yeah" he replied as he returned to his place, hand still pressed against his head.

As the engine started they both fell silent. Ji-Eun's mind filled with dread as she waited for the take off and her hands rested nervously on her seat belt, gripping it tightly.

Next to her Chanyeol moved a sleeping mask onto his face, crossing his arms over his chest. His face was expressionless but his calmness soothed Ji-Eun slightly as they began rolling forward.

Her knuckles turned white as she tightened her grip and she let out a small yelp as they began speeding onto the runway. She forced her eyes shut but they peeked open for a moment as someone pulled her hand into theirs.

The actor beside her was silent but he squeezed it comfortingly as they finally took off.

When the seatbelt sign turned off she let out a sigh of relief, glancing at Chanyeol's fingers as they enclosed hers. A small smile formed on her lips but she realised where they were and looked around the cabin self-consciously for anyone who had noticed the interaction. Soon she was pulling her hand away from his grip as she spotted the air crew moving into the aisle and turned, shuffling her body away from him slightly. She silently stared out the window at their surrounding, blurred by the clouds as they moved through the sky and let out a deep breath to ease her nervousness.

Ji-Eun tried to relax, noticing Chanyeol also shuffling away from her as a stewardess came over to ask if he needing anything. Desperately, she waited, hoping she'd overcome the worst of her fear but within thirty minutes she couldn't ignore the uneasy feeling which was still building in her stomach. Her mouth went dry and she pressed her clammy hands together in an attempt to control herself, wincing as she felt the uncomfortable feeling move up to her throat.

She quickly turned her head and glanced along the aisle to spot an empty toilet cubicle. Silently, she stood up from her chair and made her way over to it, trying to seem calm as she stumbled uneasily to the back of the plane.

The door slammed behind her and she shoved the toilet seat down, collapsing onto it with her head in her hands. She took in some deep breaths, begging the feeling to leave but her stomach continued to bubble with sickness.

After a while, a knock cascaded through the door and she ignored it, trying to focus on controlling the uneasy feeling in her chest.

"Are you okay Ji-Eun?" Chanyeol's voice chimed as it entered the tiny cubicle.

Her stomach lurched as she replied. "Yes I'm fine" she lied, wincing as she saw his dark shadow remaining outside the cubicle door.

"The director wants to speak with you" he muttered and Ji-Eun sighed, rushing over to the sink and cooling her face with some water as she glanced at her face in the mirror.

All the colour had been washed from her cheeks and she cursed herself for not applying heavier makeup this morning, tapping her cheeks in an attempt to redden them but soon giving up and glancing one last time at her reflection to fix her hair. As she turned to the door the deep panic rose inside of her but she ignored it, clicking open the look to reveal Chanyeol's face on the other side.

He was wearing a pair of headphones and he gave her a polite smile as she stepped out the door, seeming ignorant to her illness. She returned a smile in relief, glad that it wasn't too obvious but it fell from her face as the bitter taste of vomit filled her mouth and she reached out for his shoulder as her body lurched forward.
