Chapter 10

Ji-Eun sunk deep into the mattress, crawling under the duvet and flicking off the light switch. She listened to the waves crashing onto shore and the clattering of suitcases moving around the corridor, letting out a tired sigh.

As she rolled over her eyes fluttered shut, only opening for the beaming sun as it shone through her window the next morning.

Someone was urgently banging on her door as they tried to get her attention and she groaned as the noise rushed through her ears.

"Miss Kang..shooting starts in two hours!" He yelled, voice muffled.

Ji-Eun fell out of bed and stumbled to the doorway as she tried to untangle her knotty hair.

"Huh?" she yawned.

"Shooting starts in an hour so you'll need to get up for hair and makeup" Sehun repeated, staring down at his phone for a moment.

"Okay" she replied. "Send them up in twenty minutes" she added as he turned to leave.

"Will do..and Lohee said to make sure you shower" he answered, suddenly stepping out of the way for someone in the corridor.

Ji-Eun gasped as she moved to cover her pyjamas with the door, poking her head through the gap.

"Of course I will" she muttered irritably as Chanyeol's face appeared behind the manager.

He couldn't hide his smile as he passed the man, declaring a quick "Morning!" As he rushed along the corridor in a bright white hoodie.

Ji-Eun waited for Sehun to leave before she slammed the door shut, muttering to herself as she jumped in the shower.

When the hair and makeup team arrived they rushed through the door, forcing her onto a nearby chair and switching on the dryer immediately.

"Are you nervous?" One of them asked as Ji-Eun reached out for her script.

She cleared her throat before replying.

"Yeah a bit" she laughed, reading over the lines a few more times.

"I would be too. I mean have you seen how Chanyeol is with people?" One of them asked, faking a shudder in the mirror.

"I mean the way he yelled at Sehun yesterday. Terrifying!" She continued, reaching out for a pair of curlers.

Ji-Eun laughed but her smile quickly dropped as she returned to her script. A hint of irritation passed across her face but was soon masked by a grin as the women continued to ramble on.

"It's a shame really." The other one announced, picking up a floral shirt from the clothes rack. "He seemed really sweet when I last worked with him"

Ji-eun glanced at the woman's reflection in the mirror who had stopped mid curl, holding a lock of hair between her fingers.

"I thought you two would cause some scandals, you know" the hairdresser announced, catching Ji-Eun's curious eyes as she curved her lips into a small smile.

"Huh?" Ji-eun mumbled, trying to hide her interest by burying her face in her script.

"You looked really close. I thought you were secretly dating" she continued. "I think everyone thought that by the end" she laughed, arranging a few more strands of hair before showering her in a cloud of hairspray.

Ji-Eun fidgeted uncomfortably in her chair and watched as the droplets fell onto her head. Her eyes stayed on the foggy mirror as if she was entranced by her own reflection. Had her crush really been that obvious?

She hid her embarrassment as she focused back on her script, but the lines all seemed to merge into one and she fumbled over each word, repeating them continuously to herself.

———

Her eyes widened as she stepped into the empty lobby, admiring its tropical warmth during the daytime.

It was shockingly large, decorated around the edge with fake palm trees which hung around the edge of the room like a banner. The grey, tiled floor was covered in a huge rug which stretched across the ground and stopped as it reached some white couches, hidden away in the furthest corner.

A group of the sound crew walking out of the stairway caught Ji-eun's attention and she watched as they dragged their heavy bags outside with disgruntled looks on their faces.

She snook behind them out of the doorway, trying to hide her excitement as she stepped into the sun. Surfers where gliding along the ocean and her feet followed the staff as they wandered down a wooden stairway onto the beach. It was entangled with white lights and Ji-eun reminded herself to come down again at night to see them in the darkness.

As she stepped onto the warm sand someone stopped beside her and she turned, blocking out the glaring sun to meet his eyes. The figure shifted slightly and blocked the light with his arm and she tried to hide her smile as Chanyeol's face appeared in the shadow. He was now wearing a plain white tshirt which hugged his chest tightly as he looked up at the blinding sun. He gave her a polite grin, before striding over to the director and was immediately followed by his stylist, who jogged behind him with a vibrant yellow Hawaiian shirt dangling from her fingers.

She laughed as he sent a look of despair in her direction, staring down at the shirt like it terrified him as the stylist forced it over his shoulders. Ji-eun simply shrugged, trying to block out her annoyance at the way it rested perfectly on his broad shoulders and looked back at the shore.

The water gently rushed onto the beach, pushing along tiny pebbles which buried themselves into the sand. The ground was almost white as it reflected the sun's rays and she ran her foot across it contently as she heard someone calling for her.

Ji-Eun followed the noise, pushing a strand of hair from her face as she walked into the directors tent. A makeup artist was already showering Chanyeol with affection as she pulled another brush from her pocket and he broke into a small smile as she spoke to him.

"Miss Kang! I'm glad you're feeling better" the director yelled, dragging her over to Chanyeol who was watching her from his chair. After giving her a small nod her looked into the distance, staring at the ocean as it blew onto the beach.

"Thank you" she smiled. Her focus moved back to the beach for a while as she watched the few tourists wandering along in the distance, covering the sand in a pathway of busy footprints.

"I assume you're both ready for the scene?" He yelled, catching the actors' attention as they reassured him.

"Good" he muttered and glanced at his watch. "We're ready to start once you finish your makeup then" he said, glancing to Chanyeol who gave him a quick smile.

"Okay" he replied.

His words sent a tingle of nervousness up Ji-eun's spine and she followed the director onto the set as he instructed her about the scene.
