Chapter 25
After Tim and Adam had finished painting, Tim hired an exterminator to come and inspect their house before they started moving the furniture in. The man was looking for any signs of snakes, rodents, scorpions, spiders or any other unwanted creatures. He was checking for any openings where something might enter the home.
The couple was relieved to hear that nothing was found and that the house was secure. Chance and Sami were also ready to move into the brown house. A snakeskin was found in the attic but it looked to have been there for a few of years. A few openings around some of the pipes had to be filled in but other than that the house was good to go.
Jenika and Avi's bordello was also finished and ready for inspection. The snakeskin that Tim had found under the old cot was the only sign of intruders.
The other homes and the train station wasn't as fortunate. Several signs of rodent and snake infestations were found. Those homes were more open to the elements. Broken windows, torn or missing screens. The necessary precautions were taken to eliminate any future pest problems.
With that out of the way, came the next step. Those that were from the same area would leave at different times to get their belongings, furniture and vehicles.
The California crew were the first to leave. Avi, Sami and Olena. They were the closest. Jenika went with them to help in any way she could. They would turn in one of the rental cars and rent a moving van that Avi would be driving. Olena and Sami would be driving their cars and Jenika would drive Avi's. Jenika planned on heading to Texas to get her car and the rest of her things at a later time.
On their return, the next crew would head out. Chance, Austin and Nate. No moving van would be needed. Austin would load everything he had in his truck. Chance drove an El Camino that he would load his stuff. Everything that Nate had could fit in the trunk of his car and in the backseat.

Tim and Adam were the first to move out of the hotel. They had bought a generator, with their own money, that would provide enough power to run the lights, tv, and a small room air conditioner that Adam's dad had given him.
"We're still gonna need more furniture." Tim says, looking around at their living room as he stands in front of the air conditioner.
"Yeah, it does look kinda bare." Adam nods. "We have a couch, two end tables and a tv., it looks like a doctor's office instead of a home." He chuckles.
"We definitely need pictures on the walls. Maybe a chair. A bookshelf. I have a lot of books." Tim says.
"A coffee table." Adam adds.
"Speaking of coffee..." Tim says as he turns and walks into the small kitchen area. "We could always get a small table and two chairs and set it here (pointing to an area). Right now the train station is the only place with running water but we could get a small camper size refrigerator and keep water and other things in it. A coffee maker is a must."
"This is soooo exciting." Adam giggles and claps his hands causing Tim to chuckle.
A knock on the door interrupts the couples planning.
"We have our first company." Adam laughs as he grabs Tim's hand and pulls him to the front door.
Tim opens the door to find Rob and Kelsey with huge smiles on their faces.
"What a nice surprise." Tim smiles as he hugs both Rob and his wife.
"We stopped by the hotel but Chris told us that you guys had already moved in." Rob says as he hugs Adam.
"We couldn't wait any longer." Adam says with a wide grin. "Come on in."
"Oh, my God. I love this." Kelsey says as she looks around. "I love the colors that you guys picked out."
"We still have a lot of things to get to completely furnish it. It looks pretty empty right now." Tim says as they follow Kelsey through the house.
"We brought you a little house warming gift." Kelsey smiles as she hands Adam a large gift bag.
"Y'all didn't have to do that." Tim says as Adam excitedly opens the bag.
"A COFFEE MAKER!!" Adam yells with excitement.
"I told Kel that that might not be the right gift considering that you don't have running water here yet." Rob shrugs.
"Oh, we were just in here making plans on getting a small fridge and getting water from the station to keep in it." Tim chuckles.
Adam sets the coffee maker on the kitchen counter and steps back, smiling proudly at the kitchen appliance.
Seeing their excitement over a simple coffee maker, broke Kelsey's heart. This house meant so much to them. Their first home together. They were so excited to move in even if the house was not completely furnished.
"So how long do y'all plan on staying?" Tim asks as he watches Kelsey look through their bare cabinets.
"Well, I'm off work for six weeks." Rob answers. "And we were kinda planning on hanging around so Kelsey could see the completion of the guest house."
"It's coming along great." Tim says.
"When are the others moving in?" Rob asks.
"Chance and Sami will be moving in as soon as Chance gets back from Alabama. Jenika and Avi will be moving in a day or two. They're sharing the bordello. The caboose was just too hot." Tim answers. "The others will be moving in as soon as their homes are finished. Which probably won't be too long."
"The air conditioner and the generator was a smart move." Rob chuckles as he takes his place in front of the cool air.
"Adam's dad gave him the air conditioner." Tim replies. "And Adam and I bought the generator with our own money."
Tim didn't want Rob to think that they were using his money for their own comfort.
"Did I not give you enough?" Rob asks.
"What? No, you gave us plenty. We still have to furnish the station with appliances, stock it with groceries and things like towels and stuff like that." Tim answers. "We decided that each owner should supply for their own home."
"Tim, I know you all are planning on getting jobs but until you do, that money is for whatever you need. Whether it's for generators or furnishing your homes." Rob says as he puts his arm around the mayor's shoulder. "And if you start running low on funds, there's more where that came from."
"Rob, you've done plenty already. This wouldn't even be happening if it weren't for you." Tim says. "You've given us so much money already."
"Trust me, I can afford it." Rob says with a wink. "Let's just say that the airline paid dearly for that crash."
"You're definitely gonna need coffee cups, silverware, kitchen curtains, not to mention curtains throughout the house, groceries. I know you won't be cooking here but you'll need stuff like sugar, coffee, coffee filters, maybe snacks, sodas, paper towels....." Kelsey says as she and Adam exit the kitchen. Adam was making notes as he walks behind her. "Maybe we could go shopping while I here. That will be so much fun."
"Yep, you will definitely need more money." Rob chuckles.
