2 years later
The kids are growing up. They are now each 12 years old. They're hair has grown out. Kamerons hair is now longer than mine and Karson's has grown out but he keeps it tamed back. They both have matching blonde hair and blue eyes but different blues. Karson's are more of a gray, they remind me of Pearson's. Eric's hair has grown out too and so has mine. Sometimes I think about how nice it would be to get out of this place and have a hot shower again and a hamburger. "Hey mom." They both greet me. "Hey kids."
"Where's Eric?" Asks Karson
"I thought he was here with you guys?"
"Nope." They both say.
"I'm going to go look for him you kids stay here." I find him over by the waterfall but he was sitting. "Hey what's up?" I look at his arm and it's all green and pussy. "What happened!"
"I must have stepped on something in the water."
"Well you be alright?"
"I should be. Just go get me some water would you please?"
"Of course." His voice sounded weak. I bought him the water and he drank it down. I found a leaf with some medicine sap and wrapped it on his wound. "Thanks lad."
"Anything for a damsel in distress." I say and he chuckles.
"Amerot."
"Yes?"
"I love you." For some reason I wanted to cry but happily.
"I love you too."
I walked him back to the hut and we started the fire. The kids caught some crab and fish. They have excellent skills now thanks to Eric. We gather around the fire. "Mom, do you think we will ever leave?"
"I sure hope so honey." I said to Karson. He smiles at me as I hug him.
Me and Eric walk to our huts as Karson and Kameron go to theirs right next to ours. I lay on Eric. "Ouch your burning up." He starts coughing.
"Amerot, I don't think I'm going to make it." He says weakly. He looked bad. "You'll be fine, I'm sure this will pass over in the morning."
"I don't think so." He says in a fit of coughs. I know you lost people, but don't grieve over me. I'm not worth it. Just please tell Ben that I love him and give him this for me. I was going to ask him to marry me when I got home." I started tearing up.
"You can give him that yourself when you get better. I know you will get better. You have to get better." I say burying my head In his chest.
"I'm sorry love. Take this, it's a ring I found when I was young and give this to Karson for me. It's a necklace my father gave me when I was a young lad. I felt the hot tears rushing out of my eyes. Rethinking everything's that happened. He can't leave me. He just cant. It's not fair. "It'll be alright love." He says kissing me passionately and I kiss him back. I fall asleep on top of him listening to his heart beat. I wake up. I didn't hear a heartbeat. I look at him an I don't cry. I just feel this numbness again. Like before. I didn't miss this feeling. It hurts worse then I remember. I walk out the hut and go over to the kids.
"Hey mom what's up?" Asks Karson.
"Mom what's wrong."
"It's Eric."
"He was sick, there was nothing to do and now,- I felt the tears rushing to the surface again.  "now he's gone."
"Like father." Says Kameron.
Karson glares at her angrily. Kameron looks down. "I didn't mean to-"
"Its alright sweety."
