Chapter 95.
John's POV.
So the first person I'm meeting with is a woman named Penelope. When they arrived I was sent by Alpha Grace into a room on the first floor she has for anyone to do therapy sessions or take important calls or to have important conversations in.
She thought it would be a good idea for me to do the interviews there and I couldn't agree more. So here I am waiting for Penelope to knock on the door.
I thankfully didn't have to wait long because a few moments later there was a knock on the door. " Come in. " I call.
She opens the door and poked her head through. She spotted me and smiled. She entered the room. " Would you like the door open or closed?" She asked.
So she's seeing if I want privacy or if I feel more comfortable with it open. " You can close it. " I told her.
She nodded and closed the door. I stood and offered my hand. " Hi, I'm John. It's very nice to meet you. " I said.
She smiled and shook my hand. " Hello John, I'm Penelope. It's very nice to meet you too. " she said.
We both then took our seats. She set her things in her lap and then looked at me. " I've known about werewolves and even met a few before but I've never been invited to a pack house. This is so interesting. " she said as a way to start up a conversation.
" It is. This pack is really well organized. " I said.
" So John, how long have you lived in this pack?" She asks.
She has a note book and a pen in her hands to take notes. " I moved here shortly after my attack a few months ago. " I said.
" Oh, so you're still getting used to the way things are run here in this pack compared to your home pack, correct?" She asked.
I let out a small chuckle. " Yeah, it's taken some getting used to but Alpha Grace and the people of this pack have been so welcoming. " I said.
She wrote a few things down. " Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot to ask. Do you mind if I take a few notes as we speak? " she asked.
" Can I ask why you are taking notes?" I ask.
" Oh yes. I take notes during beginning interviews of what I hear or notice from my potential patient. That way if you or whom ever else I was interviewing choose to become my patients I would already have a basic understanding of what you are dealing with so I can help treat you to the best of my abilities. All I do is for the betterment of the patients. " she said.
Ok, I like that answer. She seems genuine about helping out the patients. " That makes sense. No, I don't mind you taking notes. " I said.
She seems relieved and went back to writing her note. " So, for this interview we're basically going to ask each other questions. They can be personal, about the main issue as to why you're seeking therapy or they could be about what our favorite color is or what you had for breakfast this morning. I want to make sure you feel safe and comfortable. " she said.
" I can work with that. " I said.
" Ok, great. You ask the first question then. " she said.
" I'm going to start with something you've probably never been asked before. What was your first encounter with a werewolf that showed you we were real?" I asked.
" Oh, that is an interesting story. I was in a zoo of all places when..." she stopped upon seeing my confusion.
" What's a zoo?" I asked.
" Oh right, my bad. A zoo is a place where new, rare, exotic and almost instinct animals from around the world are brought to one place to live out their life in human captivity. People are allowed to view them but the animal are always very well taken care of. Most of the time the animals there are the ones that can't live out in the wolf by themselves without becoming prey themselves. " said Penelope.
" So, no animals there are mistreated?" I ask.
" Never. They are fed properly and well taken care of. They love their lives in peace. " said Penelope.
" A zoo does sound interesting. " I admitted. " Please continue."
She nods. " So I was visiting a Zoo that had just gotten a new exhibit for a very rare wolf. Upon entering the viewing area I stood shocked. I had never seen a wolf that big before and the poor thing looked so scared. Suddenly I heard a voice inside my head. The wolf was talking to me and explained what she was. I managed to keep a straight face and asked what I could do to help her. She said she had needed up there because she was rejected by her mate and was sold off to this Zoo. I agreed that I would help her and it cost a ton of money, but I hired the best lawyers in the state and we fought for her freedom. Once we bought her from them and she was released into the woods she shifted back into her human form. We got her a change of clothes and let her be on her way. I gave her a phone and she's been one of my best friends since. She's actually a member of this pack I believe. She was found by Alpha Grace. " she said.
" That's amazing. " I said in complete shock.
She smiled. " One of the lawyers I used was a werewolf himself. He said he would spread the news that I'm a therapist who is friendly and would treat werewolves with respect. That's why I'm well known in the werewolf community. " she said.
" That's definitely a good way to get your name around. " I said.
" So John, I wanted to ask you a question about the attack. Are you up for it or are you not ready to talk about it yet?" She asks.
My nerves shot up at the mention of the attack. " I guess one question wouldn't hurt. " I said.
" As long as you're sure. I don't want to make you have an anxiety attack. " she said.
I braced myself. " It's ok. I can handle one question. Ask away. " I said.
She nodded. " Seeing as this attack was done to you by humans, does that make you weary about other humans such as myself?" She asked.
I lowered my head and thought through it. " It does to a point. I never thought I would have been attacked by a human yet here I am. I guess that's another reason as to why I agreed to these interviews so I could see for myself how I would react alone with another human. " I said.
" How do you feel being around me then?" She asked.
" A little uneasy. Definitely a bit nervous. I don't feel threatened in any way though. Your body language doesn't suggest a fight in any way. " I said.
" You know how to read people's body language?" Asked Penelope.
" To an extent. As the son of a Bète I have to able to ready my opponents body's language in case a fight were to break out. I would have to figure out quickly the best way to handle and then handle it. " I said.
" A Bète? " she asked.
" The three in command of a pack are the Alpha, Bète and Gamma. The Alpha being the highest in command. The Bète being the second in command and Gamma being the third in command. Together these three and their mates work together to build relationships and establish protection and order to not only their pack but to the packs nearby as well. " I said.
" So being the son of the second in command means you were taught growing up the job you will do once your father steps down?" She asked.
" Correct. " I said.
She nodded and wore a few more notes down. " Ok, your turn to ask a question." She said.
I thought for a few moments. " Does your human world have a control system close to what we do? I've always been curious but never had the time to research it. " I said.
She smiled and began to explain how the government works. Once she was done I nodded. " That sounds pretty complicated. " I said.
" It can be a a lot of people don't like politics. Some people love it or get so involved with it. I just focus on my job. As long as whatever is decided by those in charge doesn't put me out of business I'm ok with it. " she said.
" Or as long as it doesn't mess with a child education as well. " I said.
She nodded. " Exactly. "
I chuckled. " Your turn. "
She nodded. " Now, I did hear from Alpha Grace that you are dealing with a great loss of someone who meant a lot to you, two people in fact. I don't want to go to into detail with it since loss is a pretty heavy subject but I wanted to know how you are dealing with said loss and to offer you my condolences. " she said.
I give a small sad smile. " Yeah, one of those losses was a very great man. He was the Alpha from my home pack. I was born and raised with him as my Alpha and we lost him in an instant. No one got to say bye to him. He was just... gone. " I said.
" Can I ask how it happened?" She asked.
" He was shot in the head by a silver bullet. " I said.
She winced. " Yeah, it was hard on everyone. Then I found out that my mate was the one who planted the gun for the Boss Rogue to use to kill him. She ended up being a traitor and I rejected her. She was my second loss. " I said.
" I'm so sorry. We're you two really close?" Asked Penelope.
" We hadn't even known each other more then two weeks before all of this went down but I had already felt so close to her. I guess that's just a mate bond for you. " I said.
" I've heard the term mates be told to me before. That's your basic life partner. Someone you could never live without, correct?" She asked.
I simply nodded and she wrote down a few more notes. " I'm sorry for bringing up such a tough subject. Loss like that can be very difficult to get through. " she said.
I nodded. Yes, it sure can be tough. " Well, I think that concludes all the questions I wanted to ask for right now. I'll have them give you a few minutes alone to sort through your thoughts before the next one arrives. " said Penelope.
" Thank you. It was so nice meeting you. " I said as we stood and shook hands again.
" It was great meeting you as well. I will see you in a bit. Bye John. " she said before she turned and left. The door slamming behind her and echoing through the room.
First therapist down, onto the next.
