John's POV.
Alpha Grace knocked on the door a few minutes after Clark left. I called for her to enter. She looked concerned but gave me a reassuring smile.
" Hey, I just wanted to make sure everything is going good. " she said.
I gave her a smile back. " Things are going as good as can be. Penelope was very nice and professional. Clark was very nice as well but seemed to still have all his trauma at the forefront of his mind. When I mentioned it his entire body stiffened up. I thought to myself, how could he help me if he hasn't finished helping himself. " I said.
" That's a good point. You know that most therapists seek therapy from other therapists as well. " she said.
" Really?" I asked.
" Oh yes. Imagine trying to process everything you hear from all these new clients without help. You'd go mad. That's why they seek help themselves. That way they can be their very best and when helping you through your worst. " said Alpha Grace.
" That's very interesting. It makes sense though. " I said.
" It really does. I understand why you made the choice to say no to Clark, but remember. They are professionals and even if their bodies betray what they really feel, they know what they're doing. " said Alpha Grace.
" Do you think I was too quick to dismiss Clark?" I asked.
" No I don't. You made the right choice there, but remember not to think of this as you would a Bète's son. You are going into this as yourself, pure and simple. No titles, just you. Don't overthink it. " she said.
" You make a good point. Thank you Alpha Grace. " I said.
She slumps her shoulders dramatically. " John...." She groans. " I've told you to call me Grace. "
I stifle a laugh. " Understood. Thank you, Grace. " I said.
She brightens up considerably and I can't help but to laugh. She grins and walks to the door again. " I'll be sending in Jasmine in a few minutes. Hope it goes well. " she then left and closed the door behind her.
Ok, that gives me a few moments to mentally prepare. Part of me feels like I should have given Clark a shot instead of dismissing him the way I did, but I also don't regret my decision. I stand by it fully. I just hope I didn't upset him in any way.
A small knock comes from the door and I call for them to come in. The door opened and there she stood. The third and final therapist. Jasmine. She walked in and looked at me. " Would you like the door open or closed for this conversation?" She asked.
" Closed please?" I say.
" Of course. " she said before closing the door and walking over.
" Now, I heard that one of your hands was injured. Which hand would be your good hand?" She asked.
I lifted my good hand. " This one. " I said.
" Let me formally introduce myself then. " she holds out her hand for me to shake with my good one. " I am Jasmine. I specialize in trauma victims and work with those who have growing anxiety from it. I work at a facility just outside of the pack in a small human town. I also do house visits for those who cannot go into the human world or are too scared to leave their houses. I am a resident here in Alpha Graces pack and it is a pleasure to meet you. "
I shake her hand. " It's a pleasure to meet you too. My name is John, I used to be a member of Alpha George's pack, which is now Alpha Kurt's pack. I am the son of the Bète and have lots of experience fighting and taking down rogues. " I said.
We then took our seats. " Do you mind if I take notes during our time here today?" She asks.
" Take as many as you need. " I said.
" Perfect. " she said.
She then crossed her legs and rested her notepad against her top knee. " Now, I know that as a Bète you have the ability to read others body language. As it is part of your job. I take it that's why your interview with Clark ended so abruptly. " she said.
I nodded. I opened my mouth to explain but she held up her hand and offered a small smile. " You don't need to explain yourself to me. I understand. " she said.
I nod in response. " Now, I want to take a different approach to how we conduct our meeting today. Are you up for a small game?" She asked.
I tilted my head in confusion. " A game? What kind of game?" I ask.
" It's a game I like to play with all my new clients. " she reached into her side bag that she had brought and pulled out a small container. She set it on the desk next to us. " This jar has little sayings that I wrote and wrapped up myself. They are sayings that people say to themselves when they are going through anxiety. " she then grabbed two more small containers. These held different kinds of candies.
" This one contains sour candies and this one contains sweet candies. The game we are playing is simple. We play Rock, Paper, Scissors and whoever loses picks one of the sayings. With whatever the saying says, you have to tell me a small memory it brings up. I then will guess if the memory is true or not, if I get it right you have to take a sour candy. If I get it wrong you get a sweet candy. Pure and simple. It's an easy way to tell if the person will be honest with you and it's a great way to establish trust at the beginning of a relationship. " said Jasmine.
"That's pretty clever. Does it help with a lot of your clients?" I ask.
" Oh yes. I found that it helps people come out of their shells when they talk about memories that mean something to them. " said Jasmine.
" Then I say let's try it. " I said.
She grins. " Perfect. Let's start. " she holds up her hand and I do the same. We chant Rock, paper and scissors before showing what we got.
I did paper and she did rock. " You win. Which means I take one of these true saying and read it out loud. " she grabbed one and opened it. " You can be very niece at times. " she read.
That's a weird saying. " Now for my memory. When I was a child my mother told me and my siblings that when we lied our voices would be high. From then on when we lied we made our voices outrageously deep because we were niece enough to believe her. " she said with a small laugh.
A small laugh left me. " True. " I said.
She grinned. " Correct. Now I get a sweet candy and we start again. " and that's what she did.
We played this game for a while. It was very interesting, funny and eye opening. Finally we stopped and both had smiles on our faces.
" You sure have interesting story's to tell. " she said.
" So do you. Thank you for showing me this game. It was very interesting. Calming in a way. " I said.
She smiled as she packed the containers back up. " I'm so glad you liked it. " she said. She had been writing down many notes as the time passed.
" Now before I leave I would like to say something that I hope comes across as encouraging. " she said.
" Sure. " I said.
" Just because your first real interaction with a human was bad doesn't mean that all humans are like that. I thought that same after my attack and even the thought of meeting new humans terrified me. Now I work in a clinic alongside humans and those humans are some of my best friends. Don't judge them based on someone else's actions. They might surprise you one day. " she said.
I nodded and gave her a smile. " You make a good point. Thank you Jasmine. " I said.
" Any time John. Even if you don't choose me, I will still be here anytime you need to talk. " she said before she grabbed her stuff and shook my good hand again.
She then turned and left, leaving me there to ponder over everything that just happened now all I have left is the double interview with both of them at the same time. I sure have a lot to think about. This should be fun.
