Wedding
"Harry!" Robbie yelled as he opened the door. "Are you home? I got great news!"
Harry came out of the kitchen where he was making dinner. "What's up?"
"I got a promotion!" Robbie jumped excitedly. "I'm the new assistant manager at the store! Can you believe it?"
Harry grabbed Robbie into his arms and gave him a big hug. "That's just great. I'm so proud of you."
"They said I was born for business." Robbie said. "And that someday I could run my own store. Plus the raise isn't too shabby."
Harry hugged him again. "I'm really happy for you. But you know, your dad gave you back your inheritance so you really don't have to work if you don't want to."
Robbie shrugged his shoulders. "I know, but I really enjoy my work. Maybe I'll open my own store or a whole chain of them."
"You came a long way," Harry said. "from that spoiled rich kid who was allergic to any kind of work."
Robbie nudged him playfully. "Shut up."
They kissed for a moment before Harry pulled back. "So what about your inheritance?"
"What are you, a gold digger?" Robbie teased. "I can use that money for our honeymoon and our big ass wedding."
Harry gave him a look. "I thought we agreed on something smaller, more intimate."
"It will be intimate. Five hundred of our closest friends and family."
Harry groaned. "Do we even know five hundred people? I want our wedding to be something special, just for us."
"It's a very important day for us. We should go all out."
Harry took Robbie by the hand and led him to the sofa. "We'll see."
Robbie hesitated for a moment. "I have to tell you something."
Harry pulled him to his chest. "What?"
"Promise you won't get mad."
"Can't. Tell me." He braced himself. He trusted Robbie but with him you never knew.
Robbie took a deep breath. "Thomas came by."
Harry threw up his hands. "The hell? What did he want? I swear if he interferes with our wedding, I'm gonna end up on death row."
"It wasn't like that." Robbie assured him while holding his hands. "He just wanted to apologize and make peace. He says he finally gets that we're in love and he was jealous of that. I told him you were my life."
"Good." Harry felt relieved to hear that. He was afraid he would never get rid of that guy.
"He also said he wanted what we had and I told him that it's a hard road and takes work but it's more than worth it. I didn't realize it but we went through a lot."
"I know."
They remembered how it was when they first met and their strong attraction.
"It's work and it takes two people." Robbie went on. "You can't be selfish, you have to think about the other person. That's what I had to learn."
"I had to learn to let go," Harry said. "To just take a chance and let love in."
Robbie kissed his cheek. "That would make great wedding vows."
"You are so right." Harry smiled at him. "You think you can remember them?"
"Write it down, quick."
"I can't find a pen. When are you gonna learn to clean?"
"Shut up."
They laughed and hugged and kissed.
Their wedding day was sunny and unseasonably warm. Harry and Robbie stood by Buckingham Fountain before a minister, holding hands while gazing at each other. Instead of suits they wore white tunic shirts and jeans. They exchanged those vows in front of their few close friends and family.
"I promise," Robbie said. "That I will be more focused on us and not just on me."
"I promise," Harry said. "To communicate more and to learn to let go and live in the moment."
"I also promise not to let exes get in the way of our relationship."
"Amen to that."
They slid their wedding rings on each other's fingers and the minister pronounced them married. Harry and Robbie sealed it with a kiss. Harry was aware of the tears on his new husband's cheeks. Or maybe they were his tears, who could tell?
"Hi, spouse." Robbie said.
"Hey, hubby."
After being congratulated, the couple strolled around holding hands.
"We did it," Harry said. "I can't believe it, we're married. How do you feel?"
"It's so surreal. I'm so happy." Robbie laughed. "It's a dream come true."
"Same here." Harry said. "I never thought this day would happen for me, not even when I was with Liam. But I did want to be married someday."
"I never even wanted to be married." Robbie said. "I just wanted to play around and have fun. But I wasn't happy. At the end of the day I was just lonely."
"Seems like those memories are so far away now," Harry said. "A million miles away."
"I know right." Robbie stopped and turned to face him. "I am so glad I found you, Harry."
"I'm glad I found you, Robbie." Harry said, giving him a hug and a kiss.
"I hope you know I'm not going anywhere." Robbie said in his shoulder. "You're going to be stuck with me for a long time."
Harry actually pictured them as two elderly men arguing, living and loving. "I can deal with that."
They had their pictures taken at the fountain, then went to a nearby restaurant where they had their small but intimate reception. Then later at night they returned to see the Buckingham Fountain light show.
Zayn, who flew in specially for the wedding, approached them to wish them well.
"So," Zayn put an arm around each of their shoulders. "Where are you guys going on your honeymoon?"
Robbie smiled at him. "We're keeping that our little secret."
"Yeah," Harry said. "We're just going to get in the car and drive until we run out of gas, then we'll take it from there."
"Or maybe," Robbie put in. "We'll go rent a room somewhere and bang our brains out."
"Geez, dude," Harry popped him playfully. "Why can't you keep things like that a secret?"
"What? What did I say?"
For the rest of the evening they laughed and had a great time. Later that night Harry and Robbie went back to their apartment.
"Whew!" Robbie pulled his shirt over his head and tossed it on the couch. Then he plopped down after it. "What a day."
Harry stood before him. "I should have made you take vows to stop throwing your crap all over the place."
"I'm working on it."
"Are you tired? It's been a long day."
Robbie smiled up at him. "Not that tired." He grabbed the waistband of Harry's pants and tugged him closer. Harry bent over and they kissed, long and deep.
Robbie stood and pulled Harry's shirt over his head. He sat Harry down on the couch, then straddled his lap. "So," he teased. "Where do you wanna break the ice, here or in bed?"
Harry remembered Robbie saying those exact words that first time they were together. A night he would always remember. "It's our wedding night, how about both?"
"Ooh, so kinky."
They lay on the couch, breaking their kiss long enough to remove the rest of their clothes. Harry leaned back and allowed Robbie to kiss him everywhere. He took dominance and flipped them around, taking the lead.
"Oh God, Harry." Robbie was soon making a lot of noise, causing someone to knock on the wall. They laughed and continued with their lovemaking.
Later they talked.
"We definitely need to get a larger place," Harry said. "For privacy if nothing else. Plus if we're having kids we're going to need more space."
"Yeah," Robbie agreed as he lay back against Harry among the tanged sheets. "We're also going to need to replace that car."
"What do you mean replace? That's my baby."
"Give me a break, it's older than my dad."
They talked for a while before they fell asleep in each other's arms, dreaming about their future and all the good things they were looking forward to.
