Waking
Harry had a dream.
In the dream he was floating in the sky on a cloud, hovering through the tall Chicago buildings. He was alone. Everything looked drab and gray, yet he continued to soar through the familiar scenery. He didn't know why he was flying on the cloud, he was just there.
Then suddenly Robbie appeared out of nowhere, sitting cross legged on his own cloud.
"Hey, Harry," Robbie smiled his wicked smile. "Wanna come ride with me?"
Harry shook his head. "I can't. I have to go somewhere and do some things." He couldn't remember what.
Robbie was eyeing him in a seductive manner. "Oh yeah? Why?"
Harry didn't know why either. All he knew was that he just had to.
"Aw come on, hop aboard." Robbie said with a wink. "Take a moment and live a little." He patted the space on the cloud next to him. "Life is short. I'll show you how to truly live."
"What about your father?" Harry said, seeing an image of the old man in his head.
"Don't worry about him."
"What about my classes?"
"Harry, will you forget about all of that and just live. Live for the moment, enjoy yourself."
Harry hesitated for a moment, then he stepped onto Robbie's cloud and they flew away.
Suddenly everything seemed colorful and vibrant. They flew far, past the tall buildings until they were out of the city. Soon they were flying to some of the most exotic places in the world. They saw the Parliament in England, the pyramids of Egypt, and all kinds of castles, bridges and the wonders of the world.
Harry could feel the wind going through his curls. He also felt Robbie's arm around his shoulder and it was comfortable.
"How do you like this?" Robbie said in his ear. "Do you find this exciting?"
"Yes." Harry's breath was taken away. He was enjoying the new sights, the speed that they were going, and even being with Robbie. Harry had never felt so alive. Was it ever like this with Liam?
Then they were in a large green meadow filled with flowers in every color. Harry could feel the warm air on his skin, it felt pleasant.
Robbie took him by the hand and led him past a stream to a shady secluded area beneath the trees. Robbie knelt onto the grass, pulling Harry with him.
They lay side by side, staring up at the cloudless sky, laying in each other's arms. Then Robbie leaned over him. He brushed his lips across Harry's very lightly, then deeper.
Harry rolled on his back and allowed Robbie to kiss and hold and love him. He enjoyed the new and intense sensations, as if he were waking up from a long sleep. He was alive and carefree.
He closed his eyes and let Robbie make love to him, not thinking about anything except the pleasurable sensations Robbie was giving him. It felt so good to just go with his feelings, to just let go and forget about the world and his troubles. Harry enjoyed every minute.
Afterwards Robbie held him close. Harry felt so happy. There was nowhere else he would rather be.
Robbie turned and whispered something in his ear. Something that Harry hadn't heard in a long time.
Harry woke up, still tingling from the dream. It was so vivid.
He looked around, trying to remember where he was, how he got here. Then it all came back. Harry taking a drunk Robbie home. Meeting Robbie's ex Paul outside the building. Oh yeah, he was still at Robbie's apartment.
Harry could see from the window that it was dark outside. The day was already over. He had blown off his entire schedule. Zayn would kill him if he saw him now. So would Mr. Kay.
He turned over and found Robbie lying awake next to him. He was staring back, moving his hand onto Harry's chest.
"Hey, stranger," Robbie said in a raspy voice. "Long time no see."
Harry stared back with a sudden realization. Everything he had been feeling, everything he had been fighting back was now coming to the surface.
From that first day at the airport when they first met, there was that feeling that wouldn't go away.
It was there in the studio when Robbie took his necklace.
When he gave Harry that massage.
When they had their first kiss. And their second. And when they slept together.
It was even there when Harry met Paul.
Harry kept trying to fight it. He kept telling himself that his school work came first, that the bossman wouldn't approve. He kept using one excuse after another to keep this feeling buried. It was stronger than he was.
But this wasn't going anywhere. And Harry realized that neither was he.
Harry looked into Robbie's eyes, took a deep breath, then repeated the words that Robbie had whispered in his ears in the dream. The words that summed up those feelings.
"Robbie," he said. "I'm in love with you."
Robbie smiled as he touched Harry's cheek. "Good," he said. "Cause I love you too."
Harry knew there was no turning back. Like Alice in Wonderland, he was down the rabbit hole.
