Talking
Later in the week Robbie was hanging around the studio waiting for Harry. He missed him and wanted to try to talk to him.
After a while Robbie was bored. Since no one else was here he decided to go snooping. He saw a lot of realistic looking sculptures of heads.
Robbie moved on to the paintings. There were a few interesting ones he thought were nice. He also saw some nude paintings. Very nice.
Then he found what looked like a wrapped up painting in the back corner. What caught his eye was Harry's name written on the label in his handwriting. Curious, Robbie removed the cover.
The painting surprised him. It was of him and Harry lying in bed. Robbie was impressed by how lifelike it was. He could see the emotions on their faces when Harry leaned over him, kissing him. He felt touched. This showed how Harry really felt about him. This was the most beautiful thing Robbie had ever seen. Was this the project Harry kept talking about?
Right after class Harry and Zayn were crossing the quads when Paul appeared.
"Hey, mate," Paul stood in front of Harry, practically blocking his way. "Haven't seen your little friend Robbie around, have you?"
Great, Harry thought. He wanted to be indoors, it was freezing out here. Paul wasn't budging. He looked like he had all the time in the world. Harry could smell the liquor on him.
"Who is this guy, Haz?" Zayn looked the guy up and down warily.
"This is Robbie's famous ex from London." Harry waved a hand in Paul's direction.
Zayn nodded and smiled. "How you doing? If I knew where he was, I'd take him right to you."
"Paul nodded back. "I like the way you think, man."
Harry felt a little uneasy about Paul. He couldn't put his finger on it. There was something about him that didn't sit right. "I don't know where Robbie is." Instinct told him to protect Robbie.
Zayn nudged him. "Come on, if the guy wants him, just tell him. It's between them." he murmured.
"Yeah, Haz," Paul said in a mocking tone. "You can't hide him forever. I've seen him around, you know. I had no trouble tracking him here to Chicago."
"What do you want with him?"
Paul's manner turned cold. "We have some unfinished business to tend to. He knows that, that's why he's hiding like the little bitch he is."
Harry didn't like the way Paul said that. "What's your deal with Robbie anyway? What happened between you two?"
"He didn't tell you?" Paul asked with a smirk. "That's surprising considering how close you guys are. Yeah, I've seen you lovebirds together. Hope you had as much fun with him as I did."
Harry felt a chill that was not caused by the weather. "Okay, I get it. You want your payback for Robbie ruining you. You must be really angry about that." He hoped this didn't turn ugly. He hated confrontations.
"Oh you figured right. This school is really working out for you." Paul chuckled. "Thanks to that brat I can't even get a street job in England."
"Maybe you did something to deserve it," Harry was disliking Paul more and more. "Why are you so hell bent on making Robbie out to be the bad guy? He wouldn't be that cruel."
Paul scoffed, looking at Harry as if he lost it. "Robbie is nothing but some rich spoiled little brat who likes making trouble cause he gets off on the excitement. He sure has you fooled. Must have laid something really good on you."
Harry felt Zayn back up away from Paul. It seemed he was uncomfortable with him as well.
"Oh yeah," Paul said. "I didn't do what Robbie wanted so he decided to sic Big Daddy on me. Daddy used his money and power and got me fired from my job and kicked out of school."
"That's what I heard." Zayn said.
"I know all of that," Harry said while studying Paul's hostile demeanor. "I also know Robbie well enough to know that there's gotta be more to it. Robbie isn't like that."
"How cute." Paul sneered. "You've known him how long? A few months? I've known him a lot longer that. I know everything about him, I know he's very passionate. Did he take you to Daddy's pool? Take you to Starbucks' bathroom and the fancy hotels? He loves his little adventures."
Harry found his hands twisting the straps on his bookbag. He could feel his blood beginning to boil but he tried his best to keep his cool. Right now he didn't know what to believe. "I'll tell Robbie you're looking for him."
Paul turned to leave. "You do that. Give him my best. I always did."
As soon as he was gone Zayn breathed a sigh of relief. "Geez, how weird was that guy? I think I'm gonna join team Robbie. That guy was scary."
"He is." said a voice behind them.
They turned and found Robbie standing behind them, holding his arms around him because he wore a light jacket that didn't keep out the cold. Robbie had been in one of the buildings nearby and saw the entire exchange between them and Paul. He waited until Paul left before joining them.
"Robbie, seriously," Harry said, putting his hands on Robbie's shoulders. "I need to know what is going on with you and that guy."
"Harry--"
"No more excuses. If you love me, please tell me what happened over there. Talk to me."
Robbie looked at both of them, feeling weary from his troubles. "Okay," he said. "You win. I'll tell you the truth. I'll tell you everything."
