Blessing
Harry watched as Robbie tried to call his father. Robbie had that worried look on his face as he was put on hold. He remembered how Mr. Kay, his former boss, had reacted when he learned of their relationship. It was so extreme that Kay had fired Harry and disowned Robbie.
Robbie sighed as he hung up and tossed his cell aside. "He's not able to come to the phone." He sulked. "I know he's there, his assistant sucks at lying."
Harry put his arm around him. "I don't think he's going to budge on this. Maybe we should leave it alone. Do you wanna give up?"
Robbie turned to look at him in disbelief. "No I don't wanna give up. He's my dad. This is unfinished business. I'm about to do something that's very important in my life, I need his blessing."
Harry wrapped his arms around him, comforting him. "I'm sorry all of this had to happen." he said. "This was what I was afraid of in the beginning."
"What was?" Robbie mumbled into his shoulder, feeling down.
"This." Harry pointed at them both. "Getting involved with the boss' son, and all the trouble that went with it." He hugged Robbie closer. "But you know something?"
"What's that?"
Harry gave him a kiss on the forehead. "It was more than worth it."
Robbie smiled at that. He remembered how hard Harry had resisted him. "It better be worth it, Lord knows you made me work damn hard for it."
They laughed for a moment, then kissed.
"We still have to plan our wedding." Harry said. "I know you want a big one."
"We will," Robbie said. "Believe me I have a lot to do there. I just want to take care of this first." He checked his phone again. "I left a lot of messages and he hasn't bothered answering even one."
"It's okay."
"It's not okay. Fuck it," Robbie stood up. "I'm going to see him."
Harry was surprised at Robbie's sudden decisiveness. "Now? They said he wasn't there."
Robbie was already pulling on his shoes. "Please, I know all that man's excuses. I don't care if he yells, kicks my ass or whatever. He's gotta see me, I'm his own son. Sooner or later he's going to have to talk to me. Enough is enough. If he doesn't want to give me my inheritance that's cool, I don't care, just talk to me."
Harry stood up. "I'll go with you. I'd like to say something to him too."
"Sure, let's go." Robbie was already at the door. "Let's do this."
Harry drove them to Kay's office. He felt a little nervous about seeing his former boss again after that blowup. Kay was so furious at them. Harry didn't want to go through that any time soon.
Robbie sat on his side lost in thought. He wondered if his father would even listen to him. That was his life. Daddy never listened. What if he still refused to accept them? Would he be satisfied living his life without his father?
As soon as Harry pulled into the lot Robbie jumped out of the car and stormed into the building.
"Robbie wait up." Harry had to race to catch up with him."
"I want to see my father." Robbie demanded to the receptionist.
"Uh, I'm sorry," the receptionist looked flustered. "Mr. Kay is in a meeting right now."
"Fine," Robbie grabbed Harry's hand. Ignoring the protests of the receptionist, he led him down the hall to the elevators. Just in time, one opened and they stepped in.
"Are you sure about this?" Harry said.
"I'm not going anywhere until that man recognizes our love and gives us his blessing." Robbie insisted. "Even if he doesn't I just need some closure."
He stomped into the conference room. Kay was at a long table with a group of people, in the middle of a discussion.
"Hi, Daddy!" Robbie said above the talking. "Remember me, your baby boy?"
Kay bristled. "This is not a good time."
"Really? When is it ever a good time?" Robbie yelled while waving his arms. "I've been hearing that all my damn life. Not now, not a good time. What else is new?"
"Everybody out." Kay told the other people. They quickly gathered their things and left.
Kay turned to Harry. "I'm guessing you're behind this little performance."
Robbie stood between Harry and Kay. "No, this is between me and you. Leave him alone."
Kay sat back at the table. "What do you want, more trouble?"
"What trouble?" Robbie said. "What bad, wrong, evil thing did I do to make you just disown me like I was trash? Your own son?"
To Harry's surprise Kay slouched on the table and rubbed his temples. He looked tired.
"You know I always had a problem with your life choice," Kay said. "or whatever you want to call it. You with this guy and that guy, I can never keep up. And that mess with Paul that I had to clean up, I don't need that again. That choice of yours, it's only trouble."
Robbie looked him in the eye. "It's called gay, Father. I never hid it from you."
"I wanted you to be married and have a family." Kay said. "Pass on the Kay name and the business. I wanted the best for you."
Robbie sat down next to him. "I can still do that, Dad. Me and Harry are going to be married and we plan on having children. Just because one of us isn't a woman doesn't mean that it's not going to happen. We can still be a family."
"Mr. Kay," Harry said, joining them at the table. "I really care for your son. I did try to fight my attraction for him cause I knew you wouldn't approve but the heart wants what it wants. We love each other."
Kay looked at the two of them for a while. "So you two are going to be married, huh?"
"Yes," Robbie grinned at Harry. "I proposed and he said yes. All we need to do is set the date and pick the place."
Kay continued watching them. "I guess, as long as you're happy. . ."
"I am, Dad. We are." Robbie smiled again at Harry and took his hand. "And this is the real thing."
Kay sighed. "Then I guess I wish you two the best."
"We have your blessing?" Robbie jumped up and gave his dad a hug. "Thank you! Will you be at our wedding?"
"As soon as you make your plans."
Robbie looked at him closely. "Am I your son again?"
Kay nodded. "Of course."
Harry and Robbie practically danced out of the building holding hands.
"I can't believe he gave us his blessing." Harry said. "And he finally approves."
"I know right." Robbie said. "I feel complete now. I have my dad and my future spouse. What do we do now?"
"Plan the wedding." Harry said. "We got a lot to do."
