Chapter 2

After the paramedics came, things moved quickly. The woman was taken to the hospital and Medani and her mom followed. Mostly to work out insurance and payment. In the chaos, Medani had noticed their car's front had a dent in it. This wasn't an average person and Medani may be the only one who knows. The possibilities raced through her mind, keeping her occupied even sitting in the boring white sterile waiting room with her phone left in the car. She tuned in to the nearby conversation of the medics, discovering the woman's location in the hospital.

Pulled by some unknown force (or maybe just strong curiosity), she left to go find it, avoiding nurses and doctors all rushing around focused on their respective jobs.

Room 506. She walked in and saw her lying on the bed, propped up with white pillows. She was wearing a light blue hospital gown, a boring contrast to her earlier elegant dress. She was also awake.

"Hello." Medani greeted.

"Hello Medani. I've been expecting you."

"How do you know my name?"

"I'd been looking for you. You are the only one that can help us."

"I knew it." Medani hissed under her breath. "Uh, I mean... why me?"

"Medani, our world is in grave danger by an evil empire."

"Your world?"

"I come from a very different world from your own. I was sent here to find a brave young warrior to save our people."

"Wait, warrior? I'm not a warrior, I just play games on my phone."

"Did I pick the wrong person? I don't have much time left, I don't know if I'll even have time to pick again." She started to panic and the heart monitor started to beep faster with her panic.

Medani rushed over.

"NO no no no. I can do it. Calm down. You chose the right person." She said, trying to get her heart rate down so as to not alert the nurses.

"Good. Yes, you must be our savior."

"Yeah, I will. What do I need to do?" Medani tried to sound determined like a fantasy protagonist instead of a nervous excited teenager.

"You must defeat the Dark Lord Sydim. It's the only way."

"Wait, Sydim?? Are you Lady Simina?"

"Yes. I am she. Please, I don't have much time. My power is running out fast."

"I don't know how to beat Lord Sydim! I never got past the second level!"

"I will give you what you need to defeat him."

"I-" she was cut off by a loud thunder clap, echoing through the building and Medani's whole body. She looked to the window, only to see gray clouds, collecting. That hadn't been there before? She looked back to the woman in front of her, who was glowing with rainbow colored energy. The lights in the room flickered and Medani felt pulled into the center of the room. She struggled to remain on her feet.

'You don't have much time. Only 96 hours. Good luck.' The woman told her and in a flash, everything was gone.

When she woke up, the sky was teal and she was laying on the grass. She sat up in an instant. Yellow grass, bright red sun. Just like her dream.

And if the woman was to be believed (Medani couldn't think of a good reason not to) she was in Stickend, the home of Sydim's castle. A floating island in the sky. No wonder why she didn't recognize it from her dream, the animation quality on her handheld wasn't that great. And there was just so much detail.

"YEAAAAAAAAH!!!" she yelled in excitement.

Some birds flew off in the distance, and everything got quiet. Medani froze, the sudden quiet unsettling and concerning.

'Uh oh.' She thought and grabbed the sword and shield from the ground and took off running. They were heavy and threatened to slow her down. Curse her short legs and low stamina. The heavy foot fells in the distance alarmed her. If they were from dinilla beasts, she'd be in trouble. She could never beat one in game. She wasn't sure what would happen if she died but the prospects weren't enjoyable. Besides, she was on a time limit. She couldn't disappoint Lady Simina.

She hid in a bush and waited for the footsteps to calm down. They eventually settled and Medani let out a low breath. She cautiously stood up, clutching her sword and shield close. Medani was not a fighter but if she remembered anything from the game it was that combat was easy. In real life, combat was not easy but this was a game so it should work the same way. Besides, isekai protagonists always figured it out quickly.

Combat was not easy. It was just as hard as in real life. She blindly swung her sword at a group of feathers. A pained clucking rang out so she knew she hit something. Medani was in fact, smart enough to avoid attacking chickens for food and go for something else instead. She was not smart enough to swing her sword at a goat, miss (unprepared for how hard it is to swing a heavy object), swing it around with a twirl and hit a chicken instead.

Gashes littered her legs, arms, and all the places not protected by her shield. What a dumb death. Killed by chickens. Lady Simina would be disappointed. She wanted a warrior not a lame city girl with no combat experience. Dark Lord Sydim will rule this world because Medani Langcaster could not fight off a group of chickens.

Suddenly, they ran away, running toward something on the ground. She looked around nervously a spotted a blue haired boy holding a bag. He was really cute.

"Hello, you looked like you needed some help?" he told her pointedly.

"Uh. Yeah." RIP Medani's pride. You will be missed.

"I'm supposed to be saving the world and stuff. Guess I can't even save myself from chickens." She laughed nervously.

"Wait, are you the chosen one?"

Chosen one! Yes, she was a chosen one! She felt special.

"Who's the chosen one?"

"The stranger from another land prophesized to save this world."

"Well I'm from another land and I'm supposed to save this world so I suppose so."

"Follow me, the elder has been awaiting your arrival."

"Awesome." She picked herself off the ground, and nearly tripped. "Ow."

"The village medic can also treat your injuries."

"Yes, that would be helpful." She winced and held her arm.

He put an arm around her, helping her walk. She tried not to blush.

"My name is Vianther. It's so cool that I was able to meet the chosen one first! The elder has been talking about you for years. We all thought she was going crazy but I deep down I always knew that you existed."

"Uh cool. My name is Medani."

"Medani? But that's so normal."

"Well my full name is Medani Langcaster."

"What is a Lang Caster?"

"It doesn't mean anything, It's just a last name."

"It sounds important."

"I wish."

"It's an honor to meet you Medani the Lang Caster."

"I-uh, it's great to meet you too." And great she forgot his name. It really wouldn't do to go around forgetting the names of all she meets.

After a bit of walking, they arrived at a village. He took her straight to the fanciest building. Opening the door dramatically he announced to the room's inhabitants:

"I bring you Medani the Lang Caster, the stranger from another world. She's the chosen one."

A silence lay over the room, as they all stared at the intruders. It looked like they were in the middle of some important meeting.

"Uh, hi?" she waved awkwardly.
