Chapter 4
Miss Ochi started attendance when the bell rang, and when she got to my name, people started looking in my direction again.
God, I hated being new.
Ichigo stopped moving as soon as she said my name. It couldn't be a coincidence, right?
Once she finished attendance, she went over the class rules and handed out a paper for our parents to sign. Then, she mentioned how she wanted us to get to know our classmates sitting near us.
My heart pounded again, knowing that Ichigo would be forced to talk to me.
He turned to the person next to him and started talking to them.
I turned my head to talk to the person next to me.
"My name's Izumi," I introduced myself politely.
The boy didn't smile. He just nodded. "I'm Ulquiorra,"
He didn't seem very talkative, which was awkward. He had nice eyes, though; I'll give him that. He turned to introduce himself to the person next to him, Orihime. The girl sitting behind me was pretty nice. She said her name was Shino Madarame.
Ichigo turned around to face me.
"Y-You're Ichigo, right?" I smiled politely but also nervously at the same time.
"You can drop the act, Izumi," He said. "I know who you are,"
"Oh, then why did you tell me you didn't remember me?" My racing heart still wouldn't die down.
"I wasn't sure if it was you since you look different now. I saw your full name on the whiteboard for the seating chart, and I realized who you were," He replied.
I look different? In a bad way?
I didn't ask him to elaborate on that. "So uh...how was life since I moved?"
"Where the hell have you been all these years?" He asked, ignoring my question.
"I moved to Seireitei, remember? Wasn't by choice, though,"
"You could've at least stayed in touch with me, you know,"
"I'm sorry. I know I should've. I don't know why I didn't, and I guess I just got caught up with my new friends there. I'm here to stay, though, and I never want to return to Seireitei again," I answered.
Ichigo was about to speak but was cut off by a pencil being chucked at his head.
"Rukia?! What the hell was that for?!" He exclaimed, narrowing his eyes at Rukia, who glared daggers at him.
I chuckled when his temper flared up again.
"Stop being such a jerk! She just moved back, so give her a break!" Rukia retorted.
"Yeah, yeah," He grumbled, rubbing his head. "Sorry, it's just surprising to see you back after all these years,"
"Ichigo-"
"It's fine," He shrugged. "You had your reasons. I'm not going to interrogate you,"
I smiled.
"I did miss you, though, so don't think I didn't. I thought about you almost every day,"
"Yeah, whatever," He replied, cheeks turning a light shade of pink. "What made your parents move back?"
I couldn't help but notice how Rukia and Orihime looked in our direction. They seemed to be smiling or something. Weird.
"My dad got a new job with his friend. His name was Aizen or something like that," I answered.
"Aizen, huh?" Ichigo asked with surprise. "That's a pretty big name around here,"
"What do you mean?"
"He owns a company named Hueco Mundo," He said. "And his two sons go here too. One of them is a pain in the ass, though,"
I didn't realize Dad's friend was a huge business owner. It's no wonder Dad took the job here.
"How are Yuzu and Karin?" I asked him. "I haven't seen your family in forever, I miss them,"
"They're doing pretty good. I'm sure they'd like to see you again. They wouldn't stop talking about you after you moved," He replied.
"Yeah, I'll have to come visit and see everyone again. How are your parents?"
He tensed up.
"They're...fine," He shrugged.
I thought it was weird how he tensed up like that. I didn't want to ask him why; I figured it was probably a sensitive topic.
The bell rang, signaling that this class was over. I checked my schedule and saw I had a teacher named Tosen next. No one else had this class with me, so I had to find my way around.
"See you, Ichigo!"
"Wait!" He called after me.
I turned around, and he walked over to me. "Here's my number so we can keep in touch,"
He handed me a piece of paper, and I put it inside my pocket. "Okay, I'll text you later then, Ichigo,"
I smiled at him and turned around to find my next class. It wasn't fun trying to find my way around this place alone. My phone buzzed as I read the class numbers, trying to figure out which Tosen was.
I looked down and saw a text from Rukia.
R: Told you Ichigo's a bit of an idiot
I chuckled at her text.
I: Yeah, I guess you were right. He said he didn't know if it was me for sure
I was trying to finish my text when I bumped into someone and dropped my phone.
"Shit..." I muttered.
I didn't look up at the person and immediately started picking stuff up from the floor.
"I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed apologetically.
"Just watch it,"
I recognized the voice. I looked up, and my eyes were met with sharp azure-colored eyes. It was the guy with Nnoitra earlier with the blue hair. Was he going to say something to me because of earlier?
Was he always this harsh?
I didn't reply and just shoved my phone into my pocket. I continued to search for my next class, and when I found it, I took the seat in the back since the other seats were already filled. The teacher was at his desk, writing something down. He had long, dark braids, a white jacket, and black pants.
My phone buzzed as I sat down, so I pulled it out of my pocket to check the message. I was confused when I realized that this was not my phone. The back of it was cracked, the lock screen had skulls on it, and there was a message from someone named Di-Roy and about ten messages from someone else named Loly.
Oh great, don't tell me I just took his phone instead of mine.
How the hell am I going to return it to him and get mine back?
"Hey, new girl," A familiar voice called to me.
I looked up, immediately being met with those sharp azure-colored eyes again.
"You took my phone," He said, sitting in the seat next to mine.
"I didn't take it intentionally. It was an accident," I said, returning his phone. He set mine back on the desk and scooted forward.
"You know, you're brave," He said.
"And what do you mean by that?"
"The way you talked to Nnoitra," He chuckled. "Lots of people piss themselves when he gets in his moods,"
"Oh? You don't have a problem with it?" I ask.
"No, I found that funny," He laughed with a mischievous glint. "You really pissed him off,"
My lips curved into a smirk. "You think I'm scared of him? The guy that feels the need to harass his ex?"
The rest of the class was a blur after the bell rang. Grimmjow, despite his brutish demeanor, remained civil with me. Something about his unpredictable nature drew me in, but not in the crush type of way. It's more like his brash demeanor mixed well with my own fiery personality.
"I'm Grimmjow, by the way," He introduced.
"And I'm Izumi, but I know you already heard my name since I shouted that at Nnoitra," I replied.
He chuckled and handed me his phone, which had Instagram open. I raised an eyebrow at him.
"I respect you, Izumi. Already going off on Nnoitra, of all people, so just follow me on here," He said. "It's not very often I do this, you know,"
I took his phone and put my Instagram name in on there. He put his phone away and when the bell rang signaling that class was over, I was glad to know that I had one more class left. My instructor's name was Quilge Opie for English and the only other person I had in that class was Uryu.
Mr. Opie didn't care too much when we chose to sit where we wanted, so I sat down with Uyru.
The day was finally over now and I sighed with relief. I couldn't wait to go home already.
I was grabbing my backpack out of my locker when I heard someone calling my name.
"Izumi!"
I turned, seeing it was Nel.
"Oh, hi, Nel," I smiled at her.
"Do you want to come to get tea with me today? There's a cafe that just opened up downtown, and I can drive us there," She asked.
"Not today, but another day. My mom wanted me to walk to the middle school to meet up with my little brother so she could pick us up there," I replied.
"Oh, okay! I'll text you later then!"
Nel waved at me as she left the school. I started walking out quickly, just wanting to get out of there. The middle school was a bit of a walk from here but not too far. I saw Ichigo standing against a tree at the middle school as well.
"Ichigo!" I called, walking over to him.
"Oh, hey, Izumi," He greeted. "What are you doing over here?"
"Meeting up with Naoki," I replied. "It's his first day, too,"
"Oh, I'm here to get Yuzu and Karin. My dad is working late, so he couldn't pick them up today," He replied.
The middle school bell rang, and the students began to pile out of the building. I texted Naoki to let him know where I was standing.
"Oh, Ichigo," I said as we waited.
"Hm?"
"Do you have any social media? You should follow me if you do,"
I handed him my phone, and he took it to follow his accounts, then returned it to me.
"Wow, sis, you already have a boyfriend?"
I groaned in embarrassment when I heard my brother loudly talking behind me.
"Naoki shut the hell up!" I exclaimed, resisting the urge to flip him off.
He was smirking at me. A white-haired boy with teal-colored eyes stood beside him, typing on his phone.
"This is my new friend Toshiro, by the way," Naoki motioned to the boy beside him.
I gave a polite smile to Toshiro. "Hello, I'm Izumi, his older sister. Nice to meet you,"
Toshiro just nodded at me. He seemed to be quiet, which was a surprise since Naoki was the opposite of him. Maybe Toshiro will help my brother make better decisions, unlike his old friends.
"So what's with the new boyfriend already? What about-"
I cut Naoki off before he could finish that sentence. Ichigo raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything to Naoki. He seemed embarrassed because his cheeks turned a little pink.
"Naoki! Shut up! That's Ichigo, remember?" I retorted.
"What?!"
"What?" I raised an eyebrow, wondering why he seemed surprised.
"Ichigo? He was like...scrawny and short the last time I saw him," Naoki stared at Ichigo in disbelief. "And now he's a giant!"
Ichigo sighed at the scrawny and short comment. "Nice to see you too, Naoki,"
"And his voice got deep, too?!"
Toshiro just sighed at Naoki's burst of energy.
"Yes, Naoki, it's called puberty. Something you won't understand for a while now," I shook my head.
A small smirk appeared on Toshiro's face when I said that. Naoki glared at me with embarrassment and just started catching up with Ichigo.
"So Toshiro," I said. "Are you coming over to our house? Or do you need a ride home?"
"Well, I was supposed to be picked up by my step-sister, but she's currently busy," He replied, slightly irritated. "So, if you wouldn't mind,"
"Oh, sure," I smiled. "Our mom won't mind giving you a ride. She'll be happy to hear that Naoki made a new friend. She hated the old ones he had,"
I was surprised by how mature Toshiro was for his age. He seemed like a nice kid.
"Are you sure?" He asked.
"Yes, I'm sure," I replied. "You're a lot better than his old 'best friend' he used to have. That kid was something else..."
I grimaced at the memory of Naoki's old friend when we lived in Seireitei. That kid got Naoki in trouble for stealing candy and even broke Mom's prized vase. She was angry.
"Okay, thank you," He said, putting his phone in his pocket to listen to Naoki and Ichigo's conversation.
Two girls ran toward Ichigo, then looked at me and back at him.
"Ichigo? Is this your new girlfriend?" One of them asked. "What happened with Orihime?!"
I knew that had to be Yuzu. I was surprised at how much she grew up.
Ichigo shut his eyes in annoyance at the question. "No, that's Izumi, remember?"
Yuzu whipped her head to look at me, and Karin widened her eyes when she looked at me.
"Wow! It's been so long!" Yuzu beamed. "You look so pretty!"
I smiled at the compliment. "Thanks, Yuzu. Same for you and Karin,"
"You should visit sometime, Izumi; I know our dad would love to see you again," Karin smiled. "What made you move back?"
"My dad got a job back here again, so we're here to stay," I replied. "I'll definitely visit soon if Ichigo is okay with that,"
Yuzu and Karin looked over at him, practically begging.
"Yeah, that's fine. I'll have to text you the address since we moved houses, too," Ichigo replied. "We gotta get going, so see you tomorrow."
Ichigo left with his sisters, and I leaned against the tree while waiting for Mom to pick us up.
A white Escalade pulled up next to us, and I knew that it was our mom. I got in the front seat, and the boys got in the back.
"How was school?" Mom asked as I plugged my phone into her aux connection.
"It was alright," I replied. "Ran into some old friends, made some new ones,"
I decided to leave out the embarrassing parts. Like when I took that boy's phone by mistake.
"Which old friends?" Mom asks.
"Orihime and Ichigo,"
"Oh, I remember them. I'd love for you to invite those two to visit," She replied, then looked at Naoki through her mirror. "And what about you?"
"Some stupid red-headed kid started picking on me for being new and was calling me names, but then my friend here, Toshiro, stepped in before I fought him," Naoki replied. "And Toshiro had all the classes I had, so we're friends now,"
Toshiro introduced himself to Mom. She seemed to like him so far. She probably liked the fact that he stood up for Naoki and was actually polite and mature. She didn't like his old group of friends.
They were what you'd call delinquents.
"Do you wanna come over, Toshiro?" Naoki asked.
"Not tonight," He replied. "But I'm free this weekend,"
Toshiro gave Mom directions to his house. He lived in a really nice condo.
Toshiro gave Mom a polite smile as he exited the car. "Thank you, Mrs. Sugawara,"
"There's no need for formalities. You can just call me Minako," she said. It's nice to meet you!"
We waited for him to walk inside his house before we left.
"Get more friends like Toshiro," Mom said to Naoki. "He's a well-mannered boy, and I already like him way better than Daiki, or whatever his name was,"
"Yeah, whatever," Naoki replied. "Toshiro's a cool guy. Ichigo's sister Karin's pretty cool too,"
We pulled into our driveway, and Mom stopped us before we got out of the car. "Oh, I forgot to mention that your father and I have a special dinner planned in a couple of months. He said it was business related, so make sure you two don't forget."
"Okay, Mom," I said, stepping out of the car.
"Do I have to come too?" Naoki groaned.
"Yes, you do," She scolded. "So there will be no arguments about it."
Naoki muttered something under his breath as we walked inside the house.
I immediately went to my room to change into comfy clothes and do my homework. I didn't want to be stuck with a bunch of homework for the rest of the night, so I was so glad the first day of school was finally over.

Kaname being blind was a bit of a problem for me lol so just for this story, he's not blind. I remembered he was able to see when he had his resurreccion during the fake Karakura Town fight.
