Two authors (Xiran Jay Zhao & Lillie Vale) have spoken out about how their input on their audiobooks was not taken into consideration, by either their publisher or the production companies.

Leading to some cultural incentive &/or racist outcomes.

They had asked that:

1) there not be an "Indian accent," on their native English speaking Indian characters, but it was done anyway

2) asked for native speakers to narrate Hindi, Marathi, Mandarin correctly, but non-native speakers were hired anyway & thus sections are recorded incorrectly.

Though they directly talked about this ahead of time & received assurances, now these authors are having to possibly lose out on audio sales & possibly seen as "difficult" for asking that the faulty audio versions be pulled and redone.

Learn from the experiences of others and stand up for yourselves. Keep tabs on the whole process. Get everything in writing. Make sure your agent is with you on every email and call. They are your team member. Your success is their success.
