The legend of Willomaid and Hutsmax
Long ago a mighty Willow once stood here in Calamitais Town.
It was home to a forest spirit who was said to have protected these lands for many years
The story goes that a young man fell in love with her after hearing her singing voice
He asked for her hand in marriage but the spirit only shook her head, only telling him that she was unable to leave
But that didn't deter the young man. Every day, he came to visit her with gifts.
The spirit still turned him away and the man grew more and more irritated
Until one day...
He took his ax with him during his next visit, planning on setting her free
There he chopped down the mighty Willow as the spirit weeped
He told her that she was now free and planned on taking her to his home
They didn't get far until the maiden collapsed and faded away into a single flower
The young man was heartbroken. If only he had known that he shouldn't take from the forest out of his own selfishness
He returned to the stump of her felled willow and began to sing. The same song he had heard her singing that day he has first come across her.
Yet he was not alone....
For the fallen mighty Willow had attracted the attention of the guardian of Nature and the one who planted it, Yggdeersil.
Fearing for his safety, The man raised his axe and swung at the mighty stag. The blade struck the mighty beast, leaving a great scar upon it's back. But the beast didn't falter. Like the mighty tree that was reborn as the Pokémon many years ago, it would take more than a metal blade to bring it to it's knees.
As the man went to raise the blade for another strike, the weapon was severed at the head. The man was immobilized by the stag's roots as it approached him and began to speak
"Young huntsman whom brought down thy willow. For thou has committed great unjust against the laws of nature and must therefor pay for thou actions."
Yggdeersil lowered it's head towards the young man and placed it's nose upon his forehead. His surroundings faded to black as he felt his body begin to transform. Not before he heard the legendary's final words to him.
"If thou can learn to make up for thou's actions, then thou can be reunited with thy maiden. Huntsmax..."
The man awoke to find himself in the form of a Pokémon. His axe lay not to far from where it had fell, having be repaired by some unknown means.
It's said that he still wanders to this very day looking for the young maiden he had fallen for all those years ago, who was said to have been reborn from a blooming flower on the night of a full moon not too long after the man was transformed.
On quiet nights, it's said that Willomaid's somber tune can be heard from deep within the forests as she calls to the wandering Huntsmax.
