Chapter Thirty: Makes Us Feel Alive

It's been four months so... Recap: Savannah who has feelings for Jasper finally regained their friendship after three years of ignoring each other, and after a whirlwind of events, they finally became a couple. But Savannah finds out that she was accepted to a college's freshman program that required her to start to studying early instead of enjoying a summer break. Soon, she was informed that Jasper was planning to take her in a road trip to Europe, but instead of going with him, she decided to go to the freshman program after talking to him. To make it up to her, Kyla, with the help of others, decided to have a travel-like theme for their prom so she and Jasper can have the experience they wanted.

Now onto the story!

I laughed along as I allowed Jasper to pull me all the way out of the gym and into the empty hallways. Well, almost empty aside from the few couples who also wanted their privacy.

"Kyla gave us only twenty minutes before she smacks us because we've been gone too long," he informed as his grip on my hand tightened.

Talk about going around the world in eighty days – we're doing it in twenty minutes.

"First stop, Italy," he grinned, rushing to the other end of the hallway where a puny cardboard replica of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. He gave me that adorable smile of his as he reached behind it and produced a huge bottle that looked like wine, "It's just grape juice, before you think of anything."

Scrunching my eyebrows together, I craned my neck to look at the back and saw that there were also two wine glasses behind it with the top being covered by a plastic circle to prevent the dust from going in.

Don't tell me that every European destination in this place right now has that.

He poured it into the two glasses and handed one to me, "A toast to the start of this great journey."

"Why do I get the feeling that this journey is more than just this impromptu trip around the school," I voiced my thoughts out loud. Instead of replying, he clinked our glass together and took a sip of his juice.

He didn't even bother waiting for us to finish the two glasses as he took my hand and led me to a long cardboard cutout of what appeared like the skyline of Barcelona.

Reaching out to the back, he took out a plate that was currently being protected by cling film, "Everywhere I read, one must surely try some tapas when visiting the amazing country of Spain," he said, peeling of the plastic cover and offered the various amounts of snacks that were stuck to a bunch of toothpicks.

"Alright, how long did it take you to do this?" I questioned with a slight laugh, taking a toothpick and examining the food that was on the other end, before placing it in my mouth, nodding in satisfaction with the savory taste.

Picking out his own sample, he ate his first before giving me a quick wink, "That's something only I can know."

"That's no fair," I pouted, though I continued with the snacks and finishing up my drink.

"If you're frowning about this, then I don't think you would enjoy getting your feet a bit dirty with the next destination," he chuckled, placing the plate back down behind the cutout.

Looking down on my high heel clad feet, I was both excited and fearing whatever destination we were going to. I gulped down my drink before setting down beside the plate and grabbing Jasper's hand as we breezed through the hallway.

"Greece," he grinned, presenting the single country that Kyla gave the most attention to. The backdrop was an amazing beach with the bluest sky I have seen and right at the bottom was a box that occupied half of the width of the hall. It was filled hallway through with a good amount of sand that was obviously been played around by a few people before us.

I grinned as Jasper bent down to help me release a foot from my shoe. He gestured to the sand and I stepped my foot on the sand, feeling the small and fine grains on my soles.

This is perhaps the nearest thing to a beach that I will experience for now. Oh the joys of living a full-on city life where there is not a single beach in sight, unless you were willing to drive for half a day for it.

Bending down carefully, I extended my arm and picked up the sand, letting it slowly drain through the gaps between my fingertips. As all of it fell out, the space it was once occupying was then engulfed by my boyfriend's strong hand.

Looking up at him, I gave him a small smile, "You know, if I weren't so stubborn in the first place, we wouldn't have waited until this year to start dating."

"That, and also if you weren't so stubborn, I wouldn't realize how horrible it is to not spend every day by your side," he countered, "So don't regret that."

He first helped put back my shoe on – and may I add, it was an impossible task to keep whatever poise I had in my body to do it – before helping me up.

He led me to the next place, a wonderful tea party set-up, complete with the fancy pastry stand that was filled with tiny cakes and scones. I couldn't help but release a giggle at the large 'DO NOT EAT' sign hanged on the table.

"That's just for the others," Jasper told me, pulling out a chair for me, "Though this is just going to be a quick cup of tea, because our clock is ticking."

He picked up the fancy teapot and filled the two teacups, placing one of them in front of me. When my fingers wrapped around it, the hot temperature had already dropped and it now felt like a lukewarm "drink more than the normal hot tea.

But hey, you can't expect the temperature to last that long.

So far, I've noticed that this trip was in fact a food fest more than anything.

And I'm not complaining.

Looking out to the dark night through one of the windows of the school that was left bare, I marveled at the sight of the thousands of stars sprinkled around the sky with the crescent moon resting in their midst.

"I promise that one day we'll be drinking actual wine in Italy, we'll be tasting tapas in Spain, we'll visit the beautiful beaches of Greece, and we'll be having a real afternoon tea in England," I swore to him, keeping my gaze on the sky.

The same sky that we would look at wherever we may go. We'll be seeing the same moon, illuminating the world with the company of the stars and constellations.

Finally peeling my attention away from it, I looked to the boy in front of me who was staring at me, giving me his undivided attention, "Will you promise me that as well?"

Now I just sound plain stupid, who was the person that made this trip impossible for this summer in the first place?

But without a second to contemplate about it, he nodded, "I promise."

Setting my cup back on the saucer, I was ready for the next place. He stood up, and offered and arm for me to take, guiding me to the next hallway.

"I had a feeling that Kyla is in love with Amsterdam," he said to me as we turned, showing a whole hall dedicated to the said city, complete with the walls to the floor, imitating the roads of it. Jasper opened the janitor closet and took out two small bikes, "Not much of a trip, but this might get us around just in time for your best friend's deadline."

I gestured to my dress, showing him that I wasn't really in the right attire to be cycling around the first floor of a high school. Instead of tucking away the idea, he shrugged me off, "You don't actually go to a beach in Greece wearing a long gown, so who says you can't ride a bike with the same thing?"

Looking back at the bike and the up at him, I realized that he was completely serious.

Oh well, being a tourist is all about the experience.

Bunching up my dress, and getting up on the bike, I was quite nervous to actually move. I'm just thinking in my head that the school hasn't been destroyed yet under my reign as president, then I can ride this in ensemble.

Jasper was obviously ahead of me, but he was slowing down his pace for me, since it wasn't the easiest to pedal around while wearing heels. It wasn't really such a long ride since the moment we reached the hall, we were done. We leaned the bikes onto the wall and went on our merry way.

"One last place," Jasper informed, taking out a hand, "And I saved the best one for last."

I was expecting to meet another cardboard cutout or something, but imagine my confusion when we came back to the doors leading back to the gym. Before we got in, Jasper glanced down on his wristwatch and grinned, "Twenty minutes on the dot."

He pushed the doors open and we stepped back into the venue. Kyla was on the mic, requesting everybody to take their seats as the dinner was about to start, and as she was about to go down, she saw and gave an excited wave.

It took her sometime to reach us with Tristan trailing along behind, but once she did, she clasped her hands around my wrists and practically bounced with enthusiasm, "Finally, we could have a nice double date."

She walked up the round table that was situated right in front of the Eiffel Tower replica. It was clearly meant to be special as it was elevated just a few inches above the ground by a platform, but it was low enough so that it did not grab too much unwanted attention, and it also blended with the other table around it.

"The last destination is a dinner on the Eiffel Tower, overlooking the city of Paris," Jasper explained as we got ourselves seated.

"Or in this case, overlooking the school gym," Tristan commented.

We clinked our glasses of iced tea and ate our dinner, meaningless chatter filling the air.

"When we're all rich and successful, let's have another double on the real deal," Kyla smiled.

And that's what I would like to hear in the middle of the whirlwind topic known as the future. It's an implication that in years' time, nothing will change expect that we would all be holding a title under our belt.

The present is heavenly, and the future would be just fine if you keep it that way.

"High school is about to end," I mentioned, "And for once, I'm not worried."

"Who knew a trip through the first floor of the school could be the cause of that," Tristan joked.

"Though I'm a bit guilty about the money," I said, turning to Jasper who didn't seemed to be a bit fazed by this.

"It was refundable, so don't worry about it," he told me, but I also didn't miss the slight look he shared with Tristan.

Kyla and I also sent our own silent conversation with each other, what are these two up to now?

"Should we tell them?" Tristan asked, gesturing to us girls.

"I was saving it for graduation," Jasper chuckled, being lighthearted with whatever secret they were hiding.

Alright mister, I may be completely relaxed with graduating, but I still had some aftershocks from every surprised that I've managed to get for the past months, so if I hear another one, I might strangle somebody if it isn't anything near good.

Jasper cleared his throat before he started to speak, "So after a quick assessment of everybody's schedule for the summer break..."

He paused for dramatic effects while Kyla and I were about to lie on the table from leaning too much, waiting anxiously for the news.

"We pulled out our resources and checked everything..." Tristan added, piling up the suspense.

After what felt like forever, they gestured to the Eiffel Tower, their grins practically ripping out their faces, "What Kyla suggested might come earlier than planned."

"We're going to France?" I gasped, getting what they were trying to let on.

"Just for an overnight stay, but yes, all four of us are going to Paris," they said.

Oh god, this night is perfect, they're perfect.

And it's not over yet. Kyla placed down her napkin and pushed herself up, "Come on, Savannah, we need to announce the royalties."

Nodding, I followed her and carried the pillow that had the plastic crown and tiara before climbing up the stage.

"Attention, everyone," she said through the mike to get the people's attention, "It's time to announce this night's king and queen."

She waved the small envelope in front of everybody's eyes, before slowly opening and reading the text. Smiling, she said to the mic, "And your king is," she paused for a second for dramatics, "Jasper Dean!"

As if there was ever a doubt.

I watched as my boyfriend stand up from the table we were occupying as he made his way to the front, nodding politely at the people who threw their congratulations to him on the way.

I placed the crown on top of his head, letting out a small clap, resisting the urge to embrace him in front of the huge crowd.

"And for the queen," Kyla announced, opening the other envelope, and releasing a loud gasp as she read out loud, "Kyla Bailey."

Honestly, I'm more shocked on the fact that she was surprised by this outcome. She tends to overlook the fact that she was the vice-president that everybody adored. And those boys she used to tell me stories of how friendly they were? I always knew they had a thing for her, and not to mention that the girls held a certain admiration for her.

And as her best friend, I couldn't get any prouder.

I took the plastic tiara and propped it on her head, giving her a hug before I let her step in front next to Jasper. Since she was now out of duty, I took over the microphone and requested everyone to make space for the king and queen's dance.

Some of them glanced towards my direction, and a few to Tristan's. I knew what they were thinking – they were wondering if we were jealous of the outcome.

Something with our group is that it went through a series of misunderstanding. For the longest time I thought that Jasper was in love with Kyla and for a brief moment Jasper thought that Tristan was interested in me.

After everything that has happened, it's hard to doubt our relationships right now.

They swayed to the beat of the music, and I saw their mouths moving, having their own conversation. Smiling, I went down the stage and placed the pillow on one of the empty tables beside the sound booth.

I watched as Tristan tapped Jasper's shoulder, asking for Kyla's hand. He nodded and stepped back, allowing the couple to start their own special dance.

A pair of arms snaked around my waist and I leaned back, knowing just from the build of the body behind me that it Jasper, "How's my king?"

I felt the weight on top of my head and I lifted a hand to see what was place there, laughing when I felt the fake crown that Jasper was previously wearing.

"You know, you never gave me a reply to my confession back in the house," he reminded, resting his chin on top of my shoulder.

I froze at the memory, it wasn't really the perfect way to say those three words. We were both on the floor with our sticky bodies due to the coke residue, and he chose that of all times.

But now that I think about it, none of the developments in this relationship was ever the right timing.

I never gave him an answer, as I just sat shell shocked that day. When he realized how much of a surprise it was to me, he dropped the subject completely.

Only to be brought up today.

Loving can hurt, love can hurt sometimes.

The sudden song change made me smile, thinking that this somehow fits the soon-to-be long distance relationship.

Yes, my dear Ed Sheeran, love can hurt sometimes, but in your own words, it is the only thing that makes us feel alive.

And in every sense of that statement, it was true. Without love, you wouldn't feel the fast heartbeat whenever you see the one you like, you wouldn't find the motivation to wake up every day, and you wouldn't have the strength to battle everything.

It makes us feel alive.

Turning my head, I placed a kiss on his cheek, "Jasper Dean, since the moment I fell for you, there was not a single day when I thought that I didn't love you."

We keep this love in a photograph, we made these memories for ourselves.

I felt him grin, returning the small peck as he started to slowly sway us to the music.

So you can keep me inside the pocket of your ripped jeans.

"We only have more or less than a month, Savannah," he mentioned and I nodded softly.

"We still have more or less than a month, Jasper," I corrected.

Holdin' me closer 'til our eyes meet and you won't ever be alone.

Thank you Kyla for always being there for me when everything was going down, thank you Tristan for being a great support system, thank you to that freshman program for triggering the series of events that lead to this moment.

And thank you Jasper, just for simply being you.

"I love you," I whispered, this time directly to the point.

When I'm away, I will remember how you kissed me under the lamppost back on 6th street, hearing you whisper through the phone, "Wait for me to come home."

Distance? Pfft... you're talking to Jasper and Savannah here, we'll take you on.

Song: Photograph - Ed Sheeran (been months, but I'm still hungover from the night I saw him live)

The amount of time I used just to look at various tourist site just for a few paragraphs is astounding. I think my mom thinks that I'm about to runaway to Europe because when she peeked over to the screen, there were six tabs that has the word Europe plastered on them.

Oh gosh, what year is it? I'm completely sorry for just disappearing out of nowhere.

But I miss it, you know? I miss the way my fingers tap on my very noisy keyboard, the excitement I feel when I upload a new chapter, the times I find myself rushing around trying to get to school in time because I was too occupied reading comments. I miss you guys, and I miss writing.

Am I back to regular updates? I'm not sure, if I'm being honest. I just remembered how therapeutic writing is for me so I opened a blank document and just wrote away, it certainly made me feel better.

I'm sure that my readers had been halved from the long hiatus, but to those who are still here, thank you. You may never know how much I appreciate it.

So instead of leaving it with such a sappy message, I'll do it like old times: Don't forget to comment, vote, and I hope you leave a follow. Get that self-promo!
