Chapter Eleven: Script

Placing down my tray on the table, I pulled out the chair on sat on it, smiling at Tristan who eyed me suspiciously from across the table.

“Hey?” he questioned, observing me as I uncapped my bottled water.

“Hi,” I greeted, trying to sound casual.

Of course, feeling like a bird in a middle of a rhino stampede is completely casual.

Since fishing any information from Jasper is out of the question, Kyla and I agreed to switch places. So here I am with Tristan, and at the other side of cafeteria, Kyla is probably giving Jasper a hefty interview.

Maybe she can find out why Jasper just suddenly left me hanging last night.

Stop being so cute.

What did he mean by that?

Setting my chin on the back of my hand, I quirked my head to the side, “Mind explaining to me why you and Jasper are currently in a silent war?”

His lips pursed into a tight line, shaking his head, he pushed away the tray of his lunch, losing his appetite because of my simple question.

Oh my darling Jasper and Tristan, why can’t this be like first grade? Just a simple mud pie and you’re all back to being playmates.

“It’s complicated, Savannah.”

Their friendship is complicated? No, what’s complicated is when Jasper and I were so close then I suddenly got jealous because he started to like Kyla. I ignored him and broke our friendship, but miraculously, because of one simple coffee accident, we’re back to being friends once again.

Now that’s complicated.

Seriously, I just accidently poured coffee on him and here we are. Take that as an advice, ladies.

“Just a hint,” I urged.

Sighing, he ran a hand through his hair, “First Kyla, now you.”

Well, we are trying to solve a mystery. For what I know, we’re working at the same place that caused a rift in your friendship.

“Let’s elaborate this,” he finally gave in, setting his palm on the table and tapped his fingers on it, “When did I start working at that café?”

Leaning back against my chair, I muttered my answer, “Junior year.”

That was easy, I remember back then when we were all so surprised to learn Tristan Hansen was going to work at out little café. Even as a junior, his popularity was slowly rising. I had a reputation as a studious student, but the student body wasn’t terrified of me back then.

It was one of the reasons why I befriended Tristan easily without him hesitating. All he knew was that I had a past friendship with his best buddy.

He nodded in confirmation before he continued on, “When did you end your friendship with Jasper?”

“Sophomore year,” I replied easily, “And that was when you became his best friend.”

He hummed, notifying me that my answer was correct, “Connect the dots, there’s this someone in that café.”

Tristan started to wiggle his eyebrows, clearly implying something.

Wait, there’s someone in One-Eighty?

The only people Jasper knew who was working there are Kyla, Tristan, and I. Why would he be so upset because the three of us were working at that café?

Unless he was jealous of Tristan. Then that means…

“I finally got it!” I slammed my palms on the table as realization flashed across my face.

Of course, how could have I been so blind?

“You do?” he asked in surprised before smirking, “I knew that you were smart.”

The bell rang signaling the end of lunch. I swung my backpack over my shoulder as I looked at him, “Thank you, Tristan, I finally know why.”

“Glad that you stopped being so dense.”

Nodding, the students started to file out of the cafeteria, in that sea of people, Kyla and Jasper were in there.

“Jasper still likes Kyla,” I voiced out my theory.

The grin that was on Tristan’s face fell quickly. He gaped at me as I started to head out.

“Savannah wait, what did you say?”

I knew he heard me clearly, plus I was being carried away by the crowd, “I’ll see you later at work!” I managed to call out before he was finally out of my eyeshot.

The thought of the whole ordeal made something in my heart swell – and it’s not in the good way. Jasper still likes Kyla, after all these years.

I shouldn’t be sad, mainly because I no longer had any feelings for him.

Right?

Besides, our friendship is so fragile at this moment, that if I grow my old feelings, it will break and shatter.

I should be happy for them, but the sad thing, Kyla likes Tristan. Great, now we have a love triangle going on.

Do I support Jasper’s feelings for Kyla or should I support Kyla’s endeavor to be Tristan’s girlfriend?

Right now, the latter seemed much more appealing to me.

Jasper Dean, why do you have to make things more complicated?

Not only that, I have to face him later as we do our little balcony scene re-enactment for English class.

Oh the joys of school.

Half of the dyads apparently formed a some sort of relationship during the week they were partnered, and let me tell you, watching them make out in front of the whole class was hell of awkward.

“Jasper, Savannah, you’re up,” Ms. Hughes told us, gesturing for the both of us to go to the front of the classroom.

Jasper and I shared a look as we got up and went into our positions. He gave me an innocent smile and I couldn’t help but return it with my own.

I gave the signal and we started to act whatever we have rehearsed. Our moves were flawless, and I got the hang of putting some emotions into my lines.

If I didn’t know any better, we were acting like true lovers with the way we talked.

When we were finished, I was about to turn back to the class and take a bow like the usual protocol.

To my complete and utter surprise, Jasper gripped my shoulders, locking me into place. He leaned down and ever so softly, he pressed his lips on the tip of my nose.

It was so light that if my focus weren’t solely on Jasper, I would have never felt it.

But I did, and it was enough to make a blush creep to my cheeks.

What the… Did he… I thought…

As quickly as it began, he pulled back, did a fast bow to the students who were gaping as much as I was and, and trudged back to his seat.

When my brain was trying to process everything, Ms. Hughes cleared her throat loudly. My gaze switched to her and she had the biggest grin I had ever seen on a teacher.

I scrambled back to my chair, my face practically red from everything that just happened. From the corner of my eye, I looked at Jasper who wasn’t even taking a glance at my direction. He was staring at whatever pair was currently presenting.

That wasn’t in the script!

He likes Kyla, he can’t just kiss me. Even if it was just on the nose, that’s a big no-no. You don’t do that to your crush’s best friend.

Without a care in the world, I dropped my head on my desk, a sound erupting from the contact. I flinched, but that was the least of my worries.

Now I know why my stomach lurched when I found out why Jasper and Tristan were fighting. No matter how hard I try, there’s this little part in my heart that tells me have that I have this microscopic crush on Jasper.

But it’s so small, all I need is to push it far away.

Calm yourself, Savannah.

One problem, if Jasper keeps acting like this, the reason why I broke our friendship may just come back.

After all of that, Jasper was the one who started to ignore me. When the bell rang, he practically sprinted out of the classroom.

That went on throughout the day. Of course, the student body quickly discovered the happenings inside that little classroom, Kyla tried to pester me with it but I told her that I would gladly answer to all of her questions if I wasn’t so confused myself.

“Hello there, our little ball of sunshine,” Tristan muttered sarcastically as I lazily marched out of the locker room.

I glared at him, dropping on the stool right in front of the counter he was working at.

“I’m confused,” I mumbled truthfully, dropping my head in my arms.

I felt him pat my head, chuckling at me, “You should be.”

“Not helping!” was my muffled reply.

“Little piece of advice,” he told me, “Don’t just go jumping into assumptions.”

“And what does that mean?” I grumbled, lifting my head.

He shook his head as he continued on with the pastry he was working on. Kyla erupted from the locker rooms and went to the both of us.

“So how’s the growing romance between you and Jasper?” she asked for the umpteenth time this day.

Tristan tried to hold back his laugh but failed inevitably. I gave him a dry look and he tried to pass out that laugh for a cough.

Kyla giggled at the scene before turning her attention to me. Oh the irony of this whole thing.

Here’s the girl who was part of the reason why everything that’s happening is confusing as of right now. I have a mental checklist of things I need to get done.

First, mend Jasper and Tristan’s broken friendship, have Jasper to start acting normally, have myself acting normally, do whatever it takes to make sure Kyla and Tristan gets together.

Wait, what was the last one?!

Now let's have a recap of the past two and a half weeks. A lying bastard, annoying teachers, love advices, troubling homeworks, out of nowhere quizes, and most of all, a stressed Trina.

Phew! Sorry this was short, but this is the only free time I have so I'm basically rushing.

Question: Why did Jasper give Savannah's nose a kiss?

Love you guys, I'm honestly trying. Comment, vote and follow!
