CHAPTER 38

THIRD PERSON POV

Flashback

It was the third day since Jungkook had announced his engagement to the boys. It was sudden and unexpected as well, and Seokjin found it strange.

The eldest of the group had kept quiet about it nevertheless, observing Jungkook for the two days. However, tonight as he laid in his bed, he knew something was definitely not right and he couldn't stand it anymore.

He had to ask the younger about it and although it was nearly 1 a.m, he had a feeling Jungkook would still be awake as well.

Truthfully, he had noticed the change in behaviour in Jungkook for the past 2 days. The boy seemed less cheerful and almost dejected even.

Another thing he noticed had been the lack of interaction between Taehyung and Jungkook. There was this clear and thick tension between them, and it seemed like Jungkook was feeling overwhelmed by that. He would always be staring longingly at Taehyung while the older would barely even spare him a glance.

It was strange.

Taehyung and Jungkook were always so close to each other. They had even visited the shooting location together a few days ago but ever since they returned, it seemed like they were not on good terms anymore. Had something happened there?

Seokjin walked through the hallway as silently as possible to avoid waking up the other members. When he reached Jungkook's room, he pushed the door open softly and was satisfied to find the younger sitting on his bed in the dark.

"I knew you weren't asleep yet," he said, startling Jungkook a little.

"Jin hyung?" The younger asked, appearing clearly confused by the elder's presence in his room at this hour.

"I wanted to talk to you about something, Kook," stated Seokjin as he closed the door and made his way towards Jungkook in the dark.

"What is it, hyung?" enquired Jungkook when Seokjin sat down beside him. The elder studied him closely. He looked tired, and not tired as in tired from practice, but more like he was emotionally drained.

The older felt a pang in his heart at seeing the youngest member of the group like this. It was so uncommon to see him in such a state. He was usually so mischievous and full of life.

Seokjin sighed. "Please answer me truthfully and don't hide anything. You know you can trust me, right?" He asked, staring expectantly at the younger.

He noticed how the latter visibly gulped and seemed to have zoned out at his words. He tried speaking to him again but got no reaction.

"Jungkook? Are you listening?" Seokjin asked after having not received any sign of acknowledgement. Jungkook snapped out of his train of thoughts and absent-mindedly nodded.

Seokjin decided it was now or never. "Kook, you know I care for you a lot, right? So, tell me, this engagement, did you willingly agree to it?" He asked softly.

Jungkook nodded, squeaking out a small "yes". His voice was rather weak and if the elder had not been so worried about him, he might have let go of the topic. But he needed to know.

He sighed, deciding to ask something else in hopes of getting a more elaborate answer from the younger. "And why did you agree to it?"

He noticed how Jungkook stilled momentarily but still tried composing himself. "Be-because I love Hae-Haesoo noona," the younger finally muttered. However, Seokjin could tell he was lying.

"Jungkook, don't lie to me. Tell me the truth, why did you agree?" Seokjin demanded a little sternly.

On seeing how Jungkook remained silent, staring down at his lap while playing with his fingers anxiously, Seokjin felt a little bad for his harsh tone.

"Listen, Kook," the older boy uttered softly. "I can tell something is not right. I've known you and practically raised you for 5 years, I can see it in the way you behave, little one. I can also see you don't love Haesoo like that, sure enough, you're close friends with her but you don't love her, do you?"

Jungkook shook his head.

Noticing that the younger wasn't going to speak, Seokjin continued, "from a few weeks, you've seemed stressed and rather gloomy too. I thought it was some personal issues at your parents' residence but now you come and tell us you're suddenly getting engaged? Kook, I know very well that getting married so early is not something you've ever wanted. So tell me, what's wrong?"

It was silent for a moment, none of the two boys speaking, until Seokjin heard a low sniffle. He immediately whipped his head towards Jungkook, tilting up the younger's head slightly. His eyes widened upon seeing tears streaming down Jungkook's face.

"Oh Jungkookie..." he trailed, bringing the boy in a tight hug. "It's okay, everything will be alright," he soothed while rubbing the boy's back gently.

As Jungkook gripped the back of the elder's shirt tightly, ugly sobs leaving his lips while hiding his face in the crook of Seokjin's neck, crying his heart out, it was clear that whatever it was that had happened was clearly bothering him and weighing down on him a lot. It was clear that Jungkook felt lonely and lost, that he was completely devastated.

Seokjin wanted to do his best to make him feel better. Even if it was just a little, he wanted to lift the younger's mood, to make him smile.

Seokjin held him in his embrace for a few moments longer until Jungkook had stopped crying all together. He eventually let go, only rubbing soothing circles on his back to comfort him. Soon, Jungkook had completely calmed down.

Before the elder could ask him anything about it, Jungkook whispered in shaky voice, "hyung, I'm scared."

"Of what?" Seokjin inquired softly.

It was rare for Jungkook to admit being scared of something. The boy was known to be strong and fearless but emotions can make anyone weak at times.

"Of everything going on," he replied, tone still low and quivering.

Seokjin waited for him to elaborate further, not to sure of what to ask next. After a long moment of silence and Seokjin considering whether he should prompt the discussion, Jungkook finally spoke again.

"About the engagement..." he trailed off, pausing for a few seconds before going on. "I did agree willingly, but it's not because I'm in love with noona."

"Then what happened to make you agree?"

"I do love and admire her, and it's partly the reason I agreed. It was to help her."

Seokjin was a little confused by those words. To help her? What could he mean by that? But he still didn't rush Jungkook and waited until he continued.

"Noona's parents have been forcing her to get married even though she doesn't want to. They keep looking for potential fiancés for her and under the pressure, noona agreed to get engaged to me since it's better to marry someone you know rather than a complete stranger. I was then asked about my opinion and I agreed to help her with it."

Seokjin listened intently, quite shocked to hear about what had been going on. He realised that, not only Haesoo, but Jungkook as well was under the pressure of the long-time family friendship. He felt really sorry about that, but then something else popped up in his mind.

"Kook, you said it was partly the reason you agreed. Does that mean there's something else that prompted you to make this decision?" He asked.

Jungkook stilled. To answer that question, he would have to tell Seokjin about his feelings for Taehyung, but how could he? He was scared to be judged for it. He was scared that Seokjin would turn away and leave the moment to would hear about it.

As if he had sensed his dilemma, Seokjin placed a hand on his thigh and assured, "Jungkook, I'm here for you. I'm here to listen and help you, to make you feel better. So, please, tell me what's wrong. You can tell me anything, alright?"

Jungkook nodded, drawing in a deep breath. When he finally calmed down and pieced his words together, he said, "there's someone else I like and I don't think I can ever be with that person. And I don't think that person would ever have these kind of feelings for me. So I thought it would be easier to forget my feelings if I get married to someone else. I know it probably doesn't make sense, it was just a decision I made on impulse and I don't even know what I want anymore."

Jungkook leaned forward onto his hands, his elbows perched on top of his knees. He held his head in his hands, clearly desperate.

Seokjin placed a comforting hand on his head, gently stroking his hair. "Have you tried telling that person about your feelings in the first place?"

"No, I can't! He will hate me," Jungkook blabbered out hurriedly. It was only after that he realised the pronoun he had used, hence giving an indication to the gender. "I-I mean..." He looked up in panic to survey the elder's reaction.

Seokjin interrupted him by taking his right hand in both of his own. "Listen Jungkook," he said softly. "You will never know what the other person feels if you never talk about it."

Then with a shrug, he added, "besides, I'm pretty sure Taehyung likes you too."

"Wha-what? H-how did you...?" Jungkook asked, barely able to piece his sentence together. His eyes were wide and bulging and his mouth hung open as he stared at Seokjin in shock.

"Ah! So indeed it is Taehyung!" the latter exclaimed with a teasing smirk.

Jungkook felt his cheeks heat up but thankfully Seokjin couldn't see how they had reddened in the dark. "N-no, it's not, of- of course not," the younger said quickly, receiving an incredulous look from Seokjin.

"O-okay, it's him. But how did you know, hyung?"

Seokjin smiled. "Well, it's pretty clear actually. Your eyes are always on him, you're always trying to get close or clinging to him. You get worried for the slightest things when it comes to him and you're also really protective of him. You always hype him up, even for the smallest thing. When you lose a game because of someone, you get really upset but when it's Taehyung who messed up, you seem to forget your competitive side and you tell him that it's fine and whenever you get to choose your team, you'll always include him."

Jungkook sighed. "Am I really that obvious?"

Seokjin laughed, nodding. He ruffled Jungkook's hair. "But I'm happy you fell in love with someone who loves you so much. Now all that's left to do is to confess!"

Jungkook, however, did not show that much enthusiasm. "But, hyung, how can you be so sure that Taehyungie hyung likes me in that way too?"

"Well, my dear Jungkookie, did you forget I majored in acting? For that, I also had a course about human behaviour and such, so I can easily tell people's emotions based on the way they behave. Just like how I knew something was wrong with you and how I could tell you have feelings for Tae."

Jungkook looked at him amazed. But this look soon faded when he realised one thing. "But I don't know if I have the confidence to do that when hyung isn't even talking to me," he said, twiddling his fingers.

"Yeah, I noticed that. What happened?"

"Hyung is upset that I didn't tell him about my engagement. He thinks I do not trust him," Jungkook revealed, pouting. He felt his eyes water as he recalled the events.

Wiping away the tears before they could fall, Jungkook started telling everything that had happened to Seokjin. How they had not gone to the filming location but to Busan instead, what had happened there and how Taehyung had found out about the engagement.

"Okay, I won't pressurise you to confess but at least try speaking to him again, alright? Take your time with your feelings but be sure to let him know before it's too late," advised the elder.

Jungkook nodded before speaking again. "But hyung, please don't tell anyone about this. I-I don't know how they'll react if they know..."

"I wasn't going to tell anyone anyway, it's something you have to tell. But still, I want you to know that we all love you and no one will judge you. We will always support you, okay? And besides, I personally think you and Taehyung would make a cute couple! I totally ship you!"

Jungkook giggled, feeling much lighter than before and relieved to have gotten everything off his chest while Seokjin was glad to have helped him.

End of flashback

"Yeah, so that's pretty much what happened," Jungkook said.

"Oh! That night I also talked to Tae about pretty much the same thing," laughed Jimin. "What a coincidence!"

Taehyung then spoke up. "Actually, I have something important to tell everyone." His severe tone caught everyone's attention.

"I... I have actually travelled in time to come here," he revealed, slowly looking up to gauge at the hyung line's reactions since Jungkook and Jimin knew already.

There was a pause and then, "WHAT?!"

Taehyung then proceeded to explain everything, like he had to Jungkook a month ago. By the end of it, everyone was astounded. No one could really find an explanation to it but they were definitely glad that it happened and brought them to this moment.

Perhaps Taehyung and Jungkook would have never known about their feelings for each other if that had not happened.

Perhaps Jungkook would have been stuck in a marriage he was not completely willing to have if that had not happened.

But of course, there were so many other factors that had led to this moment and one of them was Jimin, who had contributed to so much. Taehyung was eternally grateful to his best friend for everything.

After a long discussion, the boys were quite exhausted. So much had been revealed that some of it still needed to be processed. "Okay, we would better go to bed now," Namjoon said, the others nodding in agreement. "But I hope you two now know that no matter what, you can count on us. We'll always act like pillars to your foundation to support and protect you. Don't ever hesitate to tell us anything, it's always better to speak out your feelings instead of keeping it all to yourselves."

The boys nodded as another wave of warmth swept through them. These guys were really their family and they felt so lucky to have people like that in their lives.

"Anyway, there's still something I'm curious about. It's something I've thought hard about but I can't seem to come to a conclusion," said Jimin pensively. All the boys looked at him in question, wondering what in the world was still unclear to him when he had known everything since the beginning.

Jimin studied Taehyung and Jungkook intensely, then asked, "which one of you two tops?"

"HYUNG!!"

"Jimin, we really don't need to know that."

"We don't want to either!"

"Good question, Jimin. I've thought about it too and I'm ready to bet it's Taehyung!"

"Seokjin hyung, please shut up. No one wants to have a discussion about that."

"Yah Park Jimin, if you ask us that again, I'm seriously killing you!!"

A few days later, Taehyung and Jungkook were on their way to Busan, sitting in their car with the elder driving while their hands were intertwined in the middle.

Noticing how Jungkook had been quietly gazing outside the window, Taehyung decided to ask, "you're nervous?"

Jungkook got a little startled since he had been lost in thought. "Huh? Yeah, yeah, a little," he said after registering what he had been asked.

Taehyung stroked the back of Jungkook's hand with his thumb. "You don't have to be. Your parents already love you so much," he reassured.

"Yeah, but I don't know how they'll take the news," replied Jungkook, still worried.

In fact, the two of them were going to Jungkook's house in Busan to announce their relationship to the younger's parents. Taehyung knew how nerve-wracking it was for his boyfriend, so he tried his best to calm him down.

"Anyway, I bet it'll be fine 'cause they love me," Taehyung said while flicking his mullet sassily.

Jungkook laughed and it made Taehyung smile to see him more at ease now. "Yeah, they really do. Sometimes it feels like they love you more than me," chuckled the younger.

Taehyung also laughed along with him, keeping their hands linked in between them.

"What about you? Aren't you nervous to tell your parents?" Jungkook asked.

"Actually, they already know I liked you, so I only have to tell them that we're together now. They'll be glad to know it."

"Really? When did you tell them that?" Jungkook was surprised. He wondered how Taehyung had the courage to tell such a thing to his parents all alone, because he honestly had no idea how he would be going to Busan to announce to his parents that he's in love with one of his group members, a boy, and that they're dating if Taehyung wasn't by his side.

"Hmm...it was maybe a little over a year ago. Remember the last time my parents visited us in Seoul? I guess they had noticed something and when I went to Daegu shortly after that, they jokingly asked if I liked you or something and I decided to truthfully tell them about it. It was rather impulsive and I hadn't given it much thought but it all went well. They were okay with it and pretty supportive too," said Taehyung.

"Wow that's great for you then," Jungkook responded, wishing his parents would have a similar reaction.

"I'm sure your parents will be like that too," assured Taehyung, quickly turning his head to flash Jungkook a warm smile before looking back in front of him.

During the whole ride to Busan, they kept their hands intertwined, the simple gesture providing much comfort to Jungkook.

When they reached their destination, they were welcomed by Jungkook's mother who was pleasantly surprised to see them. His father and brother were out but his mother had assured that they would be back by dinner time.

Taehyung and Jungkook agreed to reveal the news when everyone would be present, preferably after dinner.

"Okay you two, I'm going to prepare something nice for dinner since you have decided to visit. Meanwhile you can go freshen up and relax. You must be tired after this long journey," said Jungkook's mother.

The two boys nodded and headed to Jungkook's room. "We'll actually sleep here tonight," said the younger. "Well, if they don't throw us out after learning about us."

Taehyung rolled his eyes. "Can you stop stressing about that? They won't. They love you a lot and I'm sure they'll support you, okay?"

Jungkook sighed but nodded nevertheless. He still looked anxious though.

Having noticed, Taehyung approached him, placing his hands on his chest and slowly moving them up to the younger's shoulders. "You need to loosen up, baby," he said in a sultry manner before kissing him deeply.

Jungkook certainly didn't hesitate before kissing back and settling his large hands on Taehyung's small waist. They wrapped so perfectly around it, like they were made to be there.

The younger felt an odd feeling of ease washing over him as his mouth moved against that of Taehyung. It was like he momentarily forgot all his worries, like all that mattered for now was kissing Taehyung and nothing else.

With a fluidity like none other, Jungkook picked Taehyung up by his thighs without breaking the contact between their lips. He turned around and made his way to his bed where he gently placed the older and hovered above him, the two pulling away for air.

Jungkook admired Taehyung below him. He was panting softly, his hair spread onto the white sheets underneath his body and his lips red and swollen.

Taehyung, too, couldn't tear his eyes away from his boyfriend. The latter had a similar appearance to himself, breathing heavily and all. However, Jungkook's hair was falling onto his eyes, making them appear darker than they were and that deeply drew Taehyung in.

Jungkook's hooded eyes maintained the eye contact with Taehyung as he pulled up the elder's shirt a little just above his stomach. He left three delicate feather-like kisses onto the skin, making butterflies erupt in that particular area of Taehyung's body.

The elder's heart quickened in pace and his lips ached to touch Jungkook's once again. He grabbed the younger by the collar, pulling him up to himself before kissing him again.

Jungkook made no sign of protest as he kissed back just as hard. Taehyung's hands knotted into Jungkook's hair while the latter placed his hands on the bare skin of Taehyung's waist, occasionally moving them upwards, further underneath the elder's shirt.

The contact of Jungkook's hands with his bare skin was something that Taehyung couldn't seem to get used to. Everytime Jungkook touched him, he felt this familiar yet foreign stream of current rushing through him, going down his spine and invading every nerve in his body.

Just as they strained their respiratory systems to hold on for a little longer so that they could keep their lips against each other's for as long as they possibly could, the sound of Jungkook's bedroom door opening was heard, forcing the two boys to immediately pull away and stare in shock at the figure before them.

Maybe they had been too late to pull away or maybe a conclusion could easily be reached by their very suggestive position, for Jungkook's mother could easily tell what they had been doing before she entered the room. She gave the two a blank look before leaving, slamming the door behind her.

Jungkook's hands were still positioned underneath Taehyung's shirt while the elder still had his hands in the other's hair as they stared in direction of the door that had just opened and closed in a matter of seconds. Still shocked, they could barely register what had just happened for it had all been so fast.

Taehyung's hands left Jungkook's hair as he murmured, rather perplexed, "why do we always get caught making out?"

Jungkook let his body fall onto Taehyung's, hiding his face in the crook of the elder's neck. The action caused his voice to come out muffled as he said, "I don't know, but that's not how it was supposed to go. She probably hates me right now."

Taehyung encircled the younger's body with his arms, his hands rubbing up and down his back in a comforting way. "No, I'm sure she doesn't. Just talk to her, everything will be fine. I'm here with you."

Jungkook sighed, unwilling at first but deciding to still go with Taehyung nevertheless. He knew he had to face his mother and better do it now than later. He didn't want her to get any angrier or tell it to his brother and father. That's something he wanted to do himself, though even his mother was not supposed to find it out in this way.

He held Taehyung's hand tightly before stepping out of his room, the pair making their way to the kitchen where Mrs Jeon was busy preparing dinner. "Mom..." Jungkook trailed off hesitantly, rather scared but he felt a little braver with Taehyung's hand in his own.

His mother shot him a quick glance. "What are you doing here? Just go back," she said, focusing back on the food she was making.

"Mom," Jungkook said, voice cracking a little. This was really not how it was supposed to go. "I know you're upset, and you have every right to be, but I wanted to tell you. I- I swear, I was going to announce it to everyone tonight... p-please don't ha-ate me, I- I've liked Taehyungie hyung for- for a long time and- and we just really love each other a lot. He makes me really happy, mom, I- I love him so much. Please don't throw us ou-out."

By the end of his speech, Jungkook was crying. He had not looked up at all as he had spoken, his eyes had been casted to his feet, where the tears streaming down his face fell.

His grip on Taehyung's hand had been tightening with each word spoken, and Taehyung made no move to take his hand away. If anything, he held Jungkook's hand just as tightly to give him the support he needed.

Soon, Jungkook's mother was walking towards them. She stood in front of Jungkook, gently cupping his face and making him look up. Jungkook was surprised to see his mother smiling at him. "Kookie, I would never hate you or throw you out. Where did you get these ridiculous ideas from?"

She wiped his tears away and went on, "you're my son and I love you, Jungkook-ah. I'm so proud that you had the courage to come here in person to tell us this. I'm also happy that you found somebody to love, somebody who also loves you back. And I'm glad that this person is Taehyung. I know how much he cares for you and I know he'll always treat you well and keep you happy, Jungkook."

Upon hearing these words, the boy lunged himself forward into his mother's arms, full on sobbing now. The woman chuckled lightly before wrapping her arms around him and carding her fingers through his hair. "Hey, why are you crying like this?" she asked.

"I- I'm just so- so happy," he cried. "I thought you- you would hate me for-forever."

"I would never, sweetheart, I'll always love and support you, okay?" she assured as Jungkook nodded against her shoulder. Extending an arm over to Taehyung, she added with a smile, "come here, you too, Tae."

Taehyung joined the hug with an equally bright smile. When Jungkook's sobs had finally died down, his mother said, "besides, you two being a couple was pretty expected."

Jungkook pulled away, wiping the paths of tears while giving her a confused look.

"Don't look at me like that!" his mom exclaimed. "I mean just the way you look, speak and treat each other speaks volumes! You two are blatantly obvious. Literally anyone could've guessed you two are in love."

Jungkook sighed. That was something he had been hearing a lot lately. "But then why did you tell us to go back like you were mad at us just now?" He asked, his head cutely tilting to the side.

"What do you mean? I was literally just telling you both to get back to whatever you were doing 'cause you looked pretty into it when I entered," his mother laughed out teasingly.

"Mom!" Jungkook let out, blushing beet red.

A few hours later, Jungkook's father and his brother were back home. Instead of keeping the announcement for after dinner as they had planned, Jungkook and Taehyung had been urged by Mrs Jeon to say it sooner, claiming that she didn't know if she would be able to keep her mouth shut about it throughout dinner.

She was visibly so happy about the news. She had been asking for so much details and was glad to see the two so in love with each other.

As the whole Jeon family and Taehyung, who was also considered family, sat in the living room moments before dinner time, Jungkook thought it would be the best time to reveal the news.

He cleared his throat. "Umm...dad, Junghyunie hyung, I-I have something I want to say," he said, voice coming out a little scratchy. He was evidently hesitant and still had an ounce of apprehension that their reactions might not match his mother's.

Taehyung noticed that and added, "actually, it's something we both want to say." He looked at Jungkook who was sitting right next to him and placed his hand over his in a way to give the younger some courage.

Jungkook took in a deep breath. "So yeah, what I wish to say is..." he trailed off, pausing to gather his words.

However before he could say anything else, his father beat him to it. "What is it? You like Taehyung?" He inquired but his words held the certainty you would find in a statement.

As if on cue, Jungkook's brother added, "and he likes you too and you two are dating?" He was slightly smirking but the gesture held no malice, if anything, it was quite teasing.

Jungkook's eyes widened. How did they know? Taehyung was also pretty taken aback. "Mom, did you tell them?!" Jungkook asked, a little frustrated.

His mother put her hands up in surrender and opened her mouth to defend herself but Junghyun spoke before she could. "Come on, it's so obvious! You two are literally always looking at each other like you're seeing your whole universe in front of you."

"Right!" exclaimed Jungkook's dad. "You get so lost when you're with each other it feels like you completely forget there are other people around you. Your eyes are just glued to each other and it's so easy to tell you're in love!"

Jungkook and Taehyung both blushed while averting their gazes to the ground, utterly flustered.

Jungkook's dad approached them, smiling fondly at their shy forms and ruffled their hair. "We knew all along that you two liked each other. We were just waiting for you to realise it," he chuckled. "And that took pretty long!"

Jungkook pouted. "Did everyone know that we liked each other except for us?" He mumbled, earning a hearty laugh from his family.

"I guess so," his brother snickered.
